Reflections of this summer: Excitement

#1
I was watching some of the videos on Kings dot com and reading a lot of the posts here and I have not been this excited about a Kings season in a long time. So much youth! So much talent! Just seeing Omri and Brockman beginning to achieve their lifelong goals of playing in the NBA and the enthusiasm they have about it pumps me up. Enthusiasm in Sacramento!

Tyreke Evans, if he is half as good as people say he is, will be a huge upgrade from Beno Udrih; and who knows, maybe Beno will turn it around. Tyreke is going to be exciting to see develop.

And the Kings have a new coach and not some guy from parts unknown like in the past; this is a proven winner... perfect, no, but he cannot be worse at developing young talent than Adelman was and being an effective coach is as much about the situation as it is the coach; and I think this is a young team ready to buy in to what this coach is saying.

Adding to my excitement is becoming a partial season ticket holder for the first time!

I feel like Sacramento is going to get themselves back in the all-star game, back on national TV, and win back a lot of fans.

The time is ripe. You can feel it in the air.

As a really long time KingsFan (20 yr this year!!!) I agree. Not since 1998 has there been this big a buzz and without the pouty (at the time) CWebb. But major improvement (playoff ≤2nd round) may not really show until 2010-11. This year I'll take the excitement and see what happens standings wise.

YES! Not that I expect us to make the playoffs this year but I am very excited to see this new team come together!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is exciting just thinking about it now. But wait until we see the coaching staff starts using Kenny Thomas, Beno Udrih, Nocioni, and Garcia unnecessarily and leaving not much playing time for our new player's development, and we will all be back in this forum ranting. :p

Delusional or not, I am enjoying the positive and excitement for as long as it lasts. We only have today; why worry about tomorrow.

It is hard not to be excited because of all the potentials but we'll see.

I don't care so much about the media and other fans coming back but it would be nice to see one or more of our young players make it to the all star game.

Because tomorrow will become today, and we will still suck.

Liked your post, but nothing really has got me excited over this team.. At least not yet.

I honestly don't know how you can't be excited about this team. Despite having a horrible record last year I was more into the team than I had been during the previous couple simply because we were finally rebuilding, officially. I was excited to see the improvement of JT and Spencer throughout the year, especially in the final two months of the season when Spence averaged 15/8 and JT averaged 13.5/9. And to see a new exciting player come in to play the teams weakest position makes me all the more excited. I can't wait for summer league to start and see what all these young guys look like together.

And the team sucking really doesn't dampen my excitement, as long as I'm seeing improvement by the young guys I'll be happy since I'm not expecting miracles this year.

So, basically you're predicting we're not going to improve from getting the 4th lottery pick ( instead of the 5th and beyond ) in this recent draft?

Said this before, but my expectations are:

2009-2010 - 20-30 wins
2010-2012 - 30-40 wins
2012-2013 - Playoffs
2013-2014 - Deeper playoffs
2014-2015 - Kings first champsionship since '51 - well at least I hope so

Don't know if the last one is really and expectation, but a guy can dream can't he?

I'm excited about this team. Tyreke's development will be fun to watch. I can't wait to see how much Spencer and JT have improved. I think we will be pleasantly surprised with Kevin since he is healthy and I believe will come in with a chip on his shoulder next year. Casspi will be a good nba player down the road, and I'm interested to see Donte's development.

This team should be much more competitive with the maturation of the young players, and the big improvement of our coaching staff, which will have a great affect on this team. I expect somewhere between 25-30 wins, but I think we will see a lot of improvement and we will be in games much more often in the 4th qrtr.

I'm also excited. We've got some nice pieces and, barring a couple of big injuries, we should be able to expect more success this year (than last).
Of course it will take some time for these guys to develop, individually and collectively. There's no question about that. But I expect them to play harder and with an attitude that we haven't seen since Brian Grant and Michael Smith. Gotta love it.

Just re-read Tyreke Evans's DraftExpress profile to get hyped about summer league. Came out more excited than ever. Listed under strengths include some of the following:

-pick and roll play
-ability to create own shot
-potential
-ability to create for others
-strength
-athleticism
-excellent rebounder

This team didn't just need a point guard, it needed a star. Someone who could create for others and make his teammates better, but also take over games and create for himself in tough situations during the 4th quarter. Reke, more than anyone already on the team, and arguably anyone in the draft, could be that guy. I imagine him running the pick and roll with Jason, the pick and pop with Spencer, driving and dishing to an open Martin on the perimeter, and, most importantly, creating and hitting shots in the clutch, all while shutting down the opposing team's best guard. A stretch, perhaps, but why not get excited?
