Rock Band II Draft - playoffs begin 6/8/09

My Pick:
Matthew Bellamy - Muse (Lead Guitar/Backup Vocals)
I don't know how many secondary singers we can have, but if its decided it is against the spirit of the draft, then he will just be on lead guitar.
There is no limit to the number of vocalists per band. As far as I'm concerned, all 5 can have vocal duties:).

He hads a very powerful dynamic to my group as a soloist. If anybody disagrees, just listen to "Hysteria" by MUSE, and oh man you will see. Immensely talented, I'm just surprised he wasn't taken in the other draft.

snip
Almost took him last draft and was about to take him in this one. Great pick.

For my #2 I'll take...

?uestlove - Drums/Percussion/Back-up vocals (from The Roots)

If you've been watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, first, I applaud your determination, and second I'm sure you've noticed this man if you hadn't already. His drumming is impeccable. He has sometimes been accused of being replaced by a drum machine on some of the Roots' records because of his ridiculous skill, and the unique tone of his drums.

Plus, look at that afro.

He looks like Mr. T in that pic

Damn damn damn damn damn damn damn. I thought this would be safe. Back to the drawing board... will have something soon.

Since I seem to share the Kings' luck in drafts and missed my ideal drummer by one pick, I'm not sure what direction to take the drums in. Instead, I'll shore up the rest of the rhythm section...

Eric Wilson, bass (Sublime)

Equally versed in punk, ska, hip hop, and, of course, reggae, Wilson is the ideal choice to pair with Marley to add a little modern edge. He can play the upright bass in style, too, but I'd imagine he'll stick to electric for the most part during our performances.

Mucho gusto!

So it's back to me, and I don't know how this guy survived:). Literally in the pantheon of Rock and Roll heavy hitters, an extraordinary guitar player, an innovator, and a strong member of the most influential band ever. With my 2nd choice I select:

George Harrison - Lead Guitar/Vocals (The Beatles)

With my 3rd pick I need to sure up my Bass player. While he is mostly known for his guitar playing, this guy also sings, plays the Ukalalee, the Bass, and a bunch of other instruments as well. If George is George, and Eddie is John, then this guy is my Paul McCartney, with his easy going tenor voice, and his wicked musical talent. With my 3rd choice I select:

Jack Johnson - Bass Guitar/Vocals

Nice. I was thinking of going a more classic rock route, and if I had, George would have been a big part of that. Hard to imagine he was on the board this long.

Pick #3, Ben Harper

I'm not going to be picking again for a while, and while I'd like to shore up my rhythm section, I've got a number of options I can take at drums and would rather pick a guy I know I want...

Ben Harper, lead guitar and background vocals

An extremely talented musician who can play any number of instruments, here Harper will mostly stick to guitar. But he can rock the electric, chill out with acoustic, or go nuts on a slide solo for hours, which will be perfect for my live show. Oh, and he can do reggae, too.

Nice pick LPKingsFan. I strongly considered him along with Jack and Eddie. Here's my favorite video of one of his shows:)

I like this pick and your team so far. Your team thus far will have a very smooth, laid back style and a great reggae feel as well.

Okay, this is probably gonna get weird for some of you. Trust me though, I have a direction. My group is going to be a jazz-funk rock/experimental band. They'll be able to play smooth jazz tunes like the Roots are known for, but will also be able to break it down with some big time guitar work. That'll come later. For right now.....I need the smooooooth

John Coltrane - Tenor/Alto/Soprano Saxophone

Probably the best sax player ever. He'll be playing tenor the most in this band. His play will add layers to the band's songs. If you like funk rock/metal look up the band Mr. Bungle. They use a sax in most of their songs. The sound is really great, but their sax player isn't half a good as Coltrane. Coltrane would tear it up.

Nice pick.

My Pick:
Brooks Wackerman - Bad Religion (Drums)

Brooks Wackerman is the (newest) drummer of Bad Religion, as of 2001. He also played with KoRn, Suicidal Tendencies, Tenacious D, and the Vandals. I think he is the type of drummer that could keep up with Bellamy and Kiedis, in terms of how their fast-paced but smooth sounds would come together.

Wow, virtually none of my picks are being taken...not sure if that's a good sign or a bad sign.

Anyway, without further Apu

..ahem..ado, my 3rd pick is:

John Entwistle - Bass/Backup Vocals (The Who)

We're supposed to be putting together bands that put on a great live performance...and for the 2nd year in a row I'm taking a member of the "best band to see live" in The Who.

I don't know how he lasted so long, but anyway. Great addition to the rhythm section of my band.

[yt=My Generation]i0XknwXqLDo[/yt]

David Gilmour, Guitar and vocal (Pink Floyd)

The perfect guy to compliment Bono and Sting, he can fill a stadium with a single guitar, comfortable with effects, delays, sampling... and a great voice to go along with the others.

Great picks today guys!

I just found this and thought it was appropriate for my band so far
