This is the kind of trade that I can actually see happening. For one thing, Salmons is actually a desirable player right now (which can't be said for Brad, Kenny Thomas, etc). Secondly, even though he might be outperforming his contract at the moment -- trading him would be addition by subtraction. You know the front office is itching to see what Greene can do with more playing time because they called him back up quick when he was dominating in the D-League. And Salmons' contract interferes with our ability to sign other Free Agents either this off-season or next. A future pick might not sound like much, but with the west stacked the way it is, Portland is a key injury or two away from a mid-first round pick next season. That's a pretty nice asset to have, even if it doesn't ultimately amount to much.
The only wrinkle I would add to the proposal would be to try to throw in someone else (umm, Mikki? boy our roster sucks) and pry one of Portland's young bench players away from them. Somebody like Diogu who isn't really in the rotation anyway. Or maybe that Joel Freeland kid they drafted a couple years ago. They don't have enough roster spots for all those players anyway, and one of them might turn into something useful given more regular playing time.
