Thought I would post this up so we can start the speculation about which All Start could sacrifice any semblance of a luxurious living situation to play for our team. This list is flabbergasting.


So, let's break into a few categories. First up, let's start with the stars whose contracts expire following the 2009-2010 season and will then become honest-to-goodness free agents:

Chris Bosh (owed 17.1 million in 10/11)

This next list consists of contracts that are set to expire in 2010, but the player may choose to opt-out following the 2008-2009 season:

Chris Paul (owed $6 million in 09-10 / almost certain to sign an extension before becoming unrestricted)

Obviously not. But there are alot of lower level Big names (haha oximoronish much?) that might. I was thinking about JJ, Bosh, Rudy Gay. Id like to see those guys but I have no faith in anyone coming to Sac town. I can't stand being up in nor cal for a week hahah but if someone offered me 10 mil i might consider it. ha

I have a hard time believing any of them will come to our team. I feel like they are all gonna be bought up by the big city teams that are dumping there cap for the same reason.....Stoudamire would be a sweet pick up...lol. Were the Kings thoe, thats impossible.

My gut feeling is that LeBron is going to head to a "big-market" franchise (and definitely out of Cleveland). I'm not getting my hopes up for any of the other superstars...our team will have to be a lot more attractive than it is now as many other teams will be offering max deals as well as ours.

So basically, Superstar "A" has to weigh out: "hmm, max contract deal at Sacramento with only one star and no nightlife or max contract deal in New Jersey with better players and the city lights?" Not saying I like Jersey any better, just using an example.

I'm thinking that these "superstars" will likely head elsewhere come 2010, but our saving grace will be cap-room and hopefully the right mix of "second-tier" Free Agents and rising talent. Superstars will only come to Sactown via trade, IMO.

Worse case scenario: we will finally be K9-free.

Most of the guys on this list are on it by default, because it's too early to be signing an extension that begins in 2010. This list is going to dwindle way down by 2010, and most of any remaining big names that dip their toes in free agency will still stay where they are.

I saw an article several months back that showed over the past decade or more there's been an average of one major player per year that has changed teams via free agency, and that was including Vlade Divac among them. This year is already on the high side with Davis, Maggette and Brand moving so far, but even then two of the three receiving teams also lost one of the above players.

There's an argument that more than the normal number of players may keep their options open knowing that a bunch of teams are looking to clear space that summer, but there's still liable to be more demand than supply. There's still enough incentive to have space that year to make a couple of lesser moves, but it's not likely that one of the few marquee acquisitions that occur that summer will be in Sacramento. This is not so much a shopping list as a recipe for frustration.

I hope he shows some maturity and hangs out with Bibby one more year. If I was a gm I would have no problem inking Josh Smith to big money.

I think that you have to wait and see what your needs are at the end of that year. By then we'll have a better idea what kind of player Hawes and Thompson will be. We should know whether Greene is our SF of the future. Beno may turn out to be our pt guard of the future. If were lucky, one, maybe two of our young players will look like potential stars.

At any rate, we'll be able to make better decisions on our needs at that time than now. It could be that all we'll need are good complimenty players. A good rebounder off the bench, or a defensive stopper on the perimiter.

However, if LeBron calls and wants to come and play here, to hell with the other idea. If and when we are competitive again to the point where a championship seems possible. My advice to the Kings is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And, Don't buy senior plates for the car in advance.

Peice of advice, don't buy jersey's until the end of the 2010 summer.

I think we would have a good chance at Big Z


Off Topic: What will we call 2010. Like how we call 2008, 08, or 2009, 09, will we call it 010.

I think we would just have to put that extra second effort into a full 2010. I know. Think about how many breaths of air we could save if we didn't have to do that... I'm as upset as you are. :(

I was looking at salarys in 2010, and in order to have serious cap space, some decisions will have to be made. Do we resign Garcia, and if so for how much. Do we keep Williams through that year, and do we Keep Douby. Here's a list of players that were probably going to keep as we look at it right now.

Martin - $11,100,005.00
Hawes - $ 2,974,320.00
Udrih - $ 6,478,000.00
Thompson- $ 2,178,000.00 Total- $29,655,165.00
Salmons- $ 5,808,000.00
Greene - $ 1,116,840.00

If kept, you would have to add these salaries into the mix.

Williams - $ 5,705,019.00
Douby - $ 3,133,837.00 Total- $8,838,856.00

If added to the orginal total. Total- $38,494,402.00

Then you have the unknowns.

1st round pick 2009 ( our own ) My guess $3,200,000.00 ( in top ten )
1st round pick 2009 ( Houstons ) My guess $1,300,000.00( in bottom 20)
1st round pick 2010 ( our own ) My guess $3,000,000.00( 12 to 19th )
Garcia's new contract, if tendered. My guess $7,000,000.00

Those contract would total up to $14,500,000.00. When added to the rest of the contracts they total. $52,994,402.00.

The cap this year was just under 59 million. It been going at at a rate of just under 2 mil a year. So by 2010, it should be around $61,500,000.00. So as you can see. For us to have significant cap space, some one has to go. As a matter of fact, more than one has to go.

If you let Williams and Douby go, that would bring the total back down to $44,155,546.00. Let Salmons go and you bring it down to $38,347,546.00. I'm going on memory, but I believe that Salmons has an early release option for that year. Anyway, some hard choices are going to have to be made for us to have enough cap space to make a big move in the market.
