ESPN: Artest Requesting Trade, Representing Himself

#1
In a series of e-mails he sent to ESPN.com late Saturday and early Sunday, Artest continued to lament his decision to pass on an opportunity to become a free agent July 1 by announcing that he is now representing himself without an agent and expressing hope that he will soon be traded to "a team out there that can be more committed than Sacramento to me."
But NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Sunday that the Lakers -- fond as they are of Artest and confident as they are that they can get the best out of him through Phil Jackson's coaching and Artest's respect for Bryant -- are reluctant to part with Odom in an Artest swap. That stance, if the Lakers hold firm, would almost certainly prompt Sacramento to look elsewhere for a trade partner.
There's more.

I don't know if the lakers are posturing or not about not wanting to include Lamar, but I think it definitely says they're not down with taking on KT.

Man...trade his *** before the beginning of camp. I don't even care if we get less value for him. The only thing he is doing his ruining the chemistry of the team if he stays. We can't rebuild around him...what a tool.

Good, hope this puts more pressure on the org to just trade him.

We can't go into the season with him on this team...he will be determined to be a cancer.

I think other trade offers will start to surface after Friday when the Lakers/Turiaf situation finalizes. All the West contenders seem interested along with Miami but what do any of them have to trade in the way of starters back to the Kings? I kinda like the idea of dealing with the Clip: Artest to the Clips in return for their Trade Exception plus a 1st rounder. KT would have to be included as that Trade Exception is I think $15M. Anyway this will get a lot more interesting next weekend.

as I said when we traded for him - what ever happens - we fully deserve it
did you subscribe to that thread by any chance??

You know...just for the hell of it.

Going back to the situation. I hope we get rid of Artest and KT for draft picks just to stick it to those two whiners.

There were a LOT of fans here, including piksi, who did not want Artest, thought he would be nothing be trouble, and rallied hard to resist the trade. Once it happened, however, they almost without exception agreed to give Artest a clean slate and a new start...

And maybe his next team will agree to do the same.

It's all in the archives. All you have to do is want to find it badly enough.

Just a note of clarification: It's been board policy for a long time NOT to allow threads from the distant or not-so-distant past to be resurrected. There are tons of threads in our archives about Ron Artest. Please don't bring them back to life.

Thanks.

Call me the odd man out here or what but I just wanted to point this one out: As far as I know, Ron wanted out when he heard from Petrie or whoever in the Management office that he was not in their long term plans. That's the reason why he did not opt out in the first place. He thought that the Kings was going to give him a new deal.Taking away his numerous brush ins with Theus and his injuries, I think he played one of his best seasons last year. So you cannot blame it all on Artest for deciding to opt out after what he learned from Management.

I don't understand ppl that wanted Ron traded and all of a sudden when he wants to be traded they are bothered by it. Hell he is giving us what we wanted. By him saying this it is pretty much a certainty it will happen now as before I wasn't so sure.

something between beating the dead horse and avoiding so many "I told You so" leading to endless senseless arguments:D

still it is fun reading them in such occasions.

The Lakers aren't interested in parting with Lamar Odom for Artest? I think they would be if either:

1) The Lakers didn't have to take back a toxic contract like Kenny Thomas, or
2) The Kings were willing to take Luke Walton off their hands.

If the Kings' primary goal is to clear cap room for the long-term, and maybe lose some games in order to secure a high draft pick, John Salmons runs a year longer than Thomas. The Lakers pick up a new sixth man, but Sasha Vujacic would probably be on his way out.

Please no Walton's....that means Bill which would be "horrrrrrrible!"

The Lakers are playing typical Laker games, what else would anyone expect. Trade him to another team that will beat the Lakers year in and year out and they can have all the Odom they want.

There will be takers, he is too good on the court and his violent stuff seems behind him. He isn't saying the right things that Kings fans want to hear, but he is saying appreciate me and I'll produce. That is what we would want him to say (barring him just shutting up altogether) in this situation.

At this point, any comments that use derogatory terms to refer to Artest are going to be deleted. We all know them, we don't need to end up fighting among ourselves over this whole stupid thing.

Keep it civil or don't be surprised if it disappears.

Thanks. It is appreciated. We were Kings fans before Artest, we'll be Kings fans after Artest. Let's just let this play out without any further name calling.
