Uh... yeah... You do realize that there's no rule saying that you can't pick more than one album from the same artist, right?

I mean, I'm not passing judgment on Chris Brown, but... a sixth-round pick? I wouldn't have bet that as many as half the people in this draft have even heard of Chris Brown... Hell, *I* haven't heard of Chris Brown, and I actually listen to R&B (granted, I don't listen to a lot of new stuff, but still).
Thanks, but I realise that. Yeah, a sixth-rounder, I like him. What's wrong with that? It's only a game. It's not exactly my top priority to get everything right.
You've seriously never heard of him? He's had tonnes of hits in the US, you must at least know who he is.

Hey, you did next take my next hopeful pick, so who am I to criticize?
Sarcasm? :mad::D

Calm down, chief... I was only trying to say that you may find down the line that you've missed out on something you really wanted because you took Chris Brown in the sixth round, when it occurs to me that it probably still would have been available in the tenth, eleventh or tweflth round. Especially when the only guys taking R&B right now are basically me and MBF and, as I mentioned before, I'd never heard of him.

Well, I don't listen to FM radio, and I don't watch music videos, so it's not as unlikely as you might think. The only way I would have heard of him is if one of his songs somehow infiltrated my preferences on Yahoo Music Engine, and that has yet to happen.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound annoyed (I'm not). I know what you were saying, but if I miss out on an album, not the end of the world! It's only a bit of fun. Anyway, I think Chris Brown is a solid pick in the 6th. I listen to him quite a bit, so it's all good.

Check out some of his stuff. Not sure if you'll like it, it might be a bit too, I dunno, emotional! Depending what you're into of course. Obvious recommendations from me would be With You, Say Goodbye and his new song - Forever.

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead (1986)

No, I am not happy that the whole 80's new wave/post punk scene in general and Morissey in particular inspired the whole Emo thing of last few years. In fact, as someone who lived through the 80's and the whole pre-Britpop indy period, I really resent limited, one-dimensional and meritless re-implementation of the great classics of post-punk era through Emo music/style/culture.

Back in the day you'd have to pry this record from my cold dead hands. I liked and listened to pretty much anything associated with Morrissey (The Smiths + solo career), Johny Marr (The Smiths, The The, now Modest mouse) or Cure, Depeche Mode etc. If I were to choose just one record to take with me from '82-'86, "The Queen Is Dead" would have to be it. If for no other reason but purely sentimental (think High School and first real girlfriend).

Besides, listening to those lyrics will never get old.

Come on, dime, my man. You take All Eyez from me, I let you have the Nas album and then you disgrace your list with Chris Brown? You're right he can dance, but his singing leaves a lot to be desired. I guess to each their own...

And on to my pick.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - 1995

This album might not be as iconic as Siamese Dream, but I think its the best and most complete Smashing Pumpkins album. It is also a double album, which is a good thing when stuck on an uncharted island.

As is a running theme it seems with me, this album does not include my favorite Pumpkins song "Disarm." What it does include is a heap of very good songs topped off by a few great ones. It also ties together loosely a theme of life and death, from the beginning to the end of the album.

In it are the obvious hits like "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "1979," and "Tonight, Tonight." However there are many other great songs on it oft overlooked such as "Zero," "Jellybelly," "Thru the Eyes of Ruby," "Lily," "Farewell and Goodnight," and "Porcelain of the Vast Coean" along with many others.

Just another great alt rock pick from the early to mid-90s. A must have.

Come on, man! He's no Michael Jackson, but he can sing! Have you heard him live? He's a great performer! Watch some of his vids on youtube, he's pretty good. I'm probably just attracted to his music because they remind me of some things I recently went through! He is nowhere close to 'Pac and Nas to me, but I still like him...

Chris Brown must be big with the kids, because he was on a Math-a-thon DVD that the St. Jude's Childrens Hospital sent me.

Next up:
Social Distortion - Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell

Stupid stage antics, lame jokes and idiot fans aside Social Distortion is still a kickass band which leaves me with a tough choice between this and their self titled album (which includes two of their best known tracks "Ball and Chain" and "Story of My Life" along with a rockin cover of "Ring of Fire"). Ultimately I'm going with Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell which shows more mature and diverse songwriting than the previous release. "Cold Feelings", "Bad Luck", "King of Fools" and "When She Begins" are probably the big tracks on this one, but you've also got a nice Johnny Cash tribute in "99 to Life" and a nod to Hank Williams on "This Time Darlin'". The bonus track on the cd (I personally prefer vinyl) also has some nice rockin harmonica. You can't go wrong with that.

Hmm, this is a tough selection for me. All of my next few picks could slip another 4-5 rounds, or someone might take them next. Who knows? Anyhow, I'm sticking with my early-mid 90's theme here I've established the last couple picks. My 6th selection is:

Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming - 1994

Dave has an incredible voice. He is my second favorite singer of the 90's, behind Counting Crows' Adam Duritz. Under the Table and Dreaming is the first studio album released by DMB, and in my opinion, their best. They have hits here and there on several on their albums, but this album contains several great tracks such as "What Would You Say", "Ants Marching", and "Jimi Thing", as well as my favorite DMB track, "Satellite". My island is rounding out nicely now, and I couldn't be there without at least one album from DMB.

Chris Brown is a solid pick if you like him - he's got a lot of talent...I may not venture too far into the recent since I don't buy full cds much anymore and for the purposes of this draft that's a factor in what I'm choosing obviously. Of the recently released material that's been drafted, Kanye West was probably the only one I considered..."Jesus Walks" is just flat out phenomenal. An unfortunate ipod malfunction caused me to lose that ...my workouts have suffered I'm sure because of it, yeah..that's what I'll blame it on... ;)

I am also no threat to steal any rap created in the last 15 years...fyi. I don't even know if that means I can or can't take Vanilla Ice's album now...;)

BEATLES: A Hard Day's Night

July 10, 1964 Parlophone Records
The first album to consist of all original Lennon/McCartney tracks, A Hard Day's Night was the soundtrack to the #1 movie of the same name. John provided the most songs; 10 of the 13. The film was about 'Beatlemania', how the group reacted to screaming girls and the such. The album was nominated for the 1964 Grammy for Best Original Score Written For a Motion Picture or TV Show.

Beatles are a must have for my island and after my initial shock and disappointment when 3G took my favorite album, I remembered this one!

Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Finally another Beatles pick -- been extremely surpsied at how few of those classic albms have gone in the first third of this draft.

BTW CDiddy -- solid choice -- used to own, then lost it. Very big at the time it came out. Also thank you for not taking my next intended choice. You were only a slight risk, but I considered your eclectic list a threat. ;)

Now if Gadget will also be as polite, think it has a good chance of slipping through despite me dilly dallying around protecting various things wiht my last two picks.

Since you've been forgiven for that whole Matrix debacle, you should be safe. :p

Besides, I've got a couple more big picks -- all of which I'm fairly sure won't be a conflict -- and then I'm really going to be getting to the meat of the obscure stuff. Hopefully, the rest of this draft will be smooth sailing for me.

I forgot my list of choices at home and realized I have a project proposal due in about 5 hours I haven't started yet  , so a running-behind and rattled Warhawk selects an album that should probably be taken later, but I can't remember the ones I had listed higher at the moment:

Def Leppard - Hysteria (1987)

This came out while I was in the middle of high school and I loved it. Rocket, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Armageddon It (and lots of others) are all great pop-metal tracks (as this album has been labeled). The loss of an arm for Rick Allen in a car crash in 1984 only inspired him to become a better drummer and with the help of a hi-tech drum kit where he uses his feet extensively, this album sounds great.

It definitely isn't your classic rock album, but the success speaks for itself:

Allmusic:

The strong pop hooks and "perfect"-sounding production of Hysteria may not appeal to die-hard heavy metal fans, but it isn't heavy metal — it's pop-metal, and arguably the best pop-metal ever recorded. Its blockbuster success helped pave the way for a whole new second wave of hair metal bands, while proving that the late-'80s musical climate could also be very friendly to veteran hard rock acts, a lead many would follow in the next few years.
and wiki:

Fortunately for the band, their popularity in their homeland had significantly grown over the past four years, helping Hysteria to top the charts in Britain in its first week of release. The album was also a major success in other parts of Europe.

In the United States though, the band at first struggled to regain the momentum of Pyromania that was lost from such a prolonged absence, but the success of "Pour Some Sugar on Me" would turn both the band and the album into a worldwide phenomenon.

The album's goal, set out by Lange, was to be a hard rock version of Michael Jackson's Thriller, in that every track was a potential hit single. Songs were therefore written with this concept in mind, disappointing heavy metal fans who clamored for a straight sequel to Pyromania.

Hysteria went on to dominate album charts around the world for three years. At 16 times platinum in America alone and another 8 million copies sold outside the US, Hysteria currently sits as the 51st best selling album of all time in the US.

US album sales were relatively slow (compared to Pyromania) until the fourth single, "Pour Some Sugar On Me". The song hit Number 2, and Hysteria finally reached the top of the US Album Charts in July 1988. The "Pour Some Sugar on Me" video was #1 on Dial MTV for a record 73 days (from May 26-September 5, 1988). In October, the power ballad "Love Bites" would become Def Leppard's first (and only) Number One single on the Billboard Hot 100, and in January 1989, the band scored another US Top 5 hit with "Armageddon It."

Hysteria is one of only a handful of albums (and the third in rock history) that has charted seven singles or more on the US Hot 100: "Women" (#80), "Animal" (#19), "Hysteria" (#10), "Pour Some Sugar On Me" (#2), "Love Bites" (#1), "Armageddon It" (#3), and "Rocket" (#12). It remained on the charts for three years and has sold 18 million copies worldwide.

Equally as successful was the accompanying Hysteria world tour which ran for 15 months and saw Def Leppard perform "In The Round". The concept proved wildly popular with fans, as evidenced in the videos for "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and "Armageddon It" (and was later used again for the Adrenalize tour).

In 1989, Def Leppard won Favorite Heavy Metal Artist as well as Favorite Heavy Metal Album (for "Hysteria") during the American Music Awards. It was the first time that a heavy metal category was added to the awards show. (The category has since been deleted.)

By the end of the decade, although Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, and Bon Jovi had garnered more mainstream exposure, Def Leppard had sold more records than any rock band in the US.
We went to go see them "In the Round" for their Adrenalize tour and I even got to see them again a couple years ago when I got tickets to see Def Leppard and Journey as a surprise birthday gift.

So, some may laugh at this choice, but this album has a lot of memories attached to it.

Someone had to do it. Still, it's not a bad choice.
I only scratch my head because Pyromania is still on the table. I think Hysteria may be 2nd on my list of major let downs from a follow up record - and I'm rather surprised my top let down hasn't been picked yet.

I guess it depends on what kind of Def Leppard you prefer. Like I said, not my cup of tea, but certainly no worse than others that have been picked. Now I'm curious as to what your "let down" album is. *Thinking*

Ah. I think I got it. I don't think it'll be picked, but I may be surprised.
Maybe not since it seems you are the only one going metal, I may be one and done with my Maiden... who incidentally I am seeing in Seattle on Monday night. So hopefully this loops back around to my next pick before I disappear for a day and a half. Then again I am pretty sure I can post my full list right now and it won't go anywhere :)

Yeah, and I wish I hadn't.

EDIT - But now that I know that you're "cribbing my notes," so to speak, I no longer feel any conflict over knowing what your picks were, and I'm starting to wish that I'd taken Superfly anyway...

That was before I saw that. Are you sure that you do not want to trade? Do not worry, I changed nothing on my list, it was just interesting to peek, ahem research. I am switching up my next two picks every day, so if some of the picks that you saw, you would realistically pick, go ahead, I promise I will not cry.

I am having a hard time deciding whether my next two should still be strategical (the ones that you saw and others), or should I scoop up the ones that I could not live without that will most likely not be picked at all. It is scary having 30 picks taken between each chance.

I have another questionable one. After your pick this round I will PM you to see if it is legit or not.

That wasn't the point. The point was that I've been beating myself up over having seen what your picks were, and feeling guilty over being tempted to scoop you when I had the chance, and here you are looking at picks I've made on another forum... doing the very same thing, only without even the courtesy of letting me know that you'd done it, and almost certainly without the same moral dilemma; I find that more than mildly distressing.
