He may well. Then again my entire list was composed of teams where Beno could sign and realistically expect to be either a starter or 20+min platoon PG. I hadn't even gotten to the elite teams willing to pay him to be a backup combo guard and/or PG of the future (Phoenix/Dallas) angle yet.

here are my opinons....beno probably wont stay if we dont offer him the amount that he wants. he's playing too good right now. and in the NBA no one believes in loyalty or taking paycuts to win championships unless you're 34 years old and at the end of your career. or you play for the patriots. offer beno the minimum. he hasnt shown he can play this well for a full season. ron artest carried this team to the playoffs and right now he's not really worth the trouble. come with some facts. the kings are not and will not overspend on beno because they dont want another overpaid player. im sure you all thought bibby was overpaid. so.....come with facts.

No one is suggesting that Beno gets paid $14 million a year. Bibby had an $80 million contract for seven years. I think the suggestions are in the range of $25-29 million for four or five years. That's not overspending.

Offering Beno the minimum is tantamount to a slap in the face, and he probably would walk, even if we offered to match his highest offer after that.

so what part of that post didnt make sense? you saw what artest did during the spring of '06? he was playing the way beno is playing right now. but what has artest done lately? nothing but cause more trouble on this team.

So you think Bonzi made no difference in '06, only Ron? I think Ron is playing just as hard now as then, but I don't think he's going to carry any team to the playoffs by himself.

this is where our past transactions screw up my sense of value. is he worth 6M? by itself, i'm not sure. but relatively, when we've already given out MLE money to guys like shareef and mikki...i say sure, 6M for beno is about right!

tim duncan took a paycut a couple of years ago so they could sign key free agents and win another championship

Hold on there, babalooey. By my count, (reference), Beno has played for the Kings since Nov. 10th, after being signed on the 1st. To me, that's pretty comparable to playing a full season, which started on the 30th of October. You keep harping on that point, but it pretty clearly does not hold any water. He's clearly meshed with the team, and will only get better with time. His per 36 is 14/5/4. If you think that's worth only the minimum for a starting point guard, then you're misguided.

Now it's your turn to step up with the facts. Why shouldn't he be offered more than the minimum? Acceptable arguments may include the salaries of starting PG in the NBA, if you dare.

I think 5 million a year wuold do it since he is very commited to the Kings. This was his favorite team before signing on to hte Kings because of when Hedo, Vlade, and Peja were all on the team. He should be staying no more than 5. 5 million a year IMHO.

I think that was paid to him from us on top of his draft salary that he was bought out on (or already paid on before being dump by Minny)... no?

I don't think so - we got him off waivers, IIRC, meaning we are paying his salary and Minny isn't.

We did get him off waivers and $800k was the going price... but somethings confusing me cause the league sets a pay scale by draft position for the first few years, and Kevin Martin was picked just 2 ahead of Beno, same draft, and he is seeing $1.8M for 07/08... we never had to negotiate a deal with KM for that money, just keep him.

Weird how Beno is only seeing <800k... considering the Spurs had to guarantee him something begin of this year... they did draft him and kept him just as we did Martin. Benos made more than $800k this year for sure.

Beno was waived on Monday, 29th and signed by Kings on Thursday, 1st so that's more than 48 hours of waivers. Minny is still paying him this year's rookie salary considering there was no buyout talks.

This is going to be quite a tough decision for Petrie & Co come the offseason.

Like many have stated, there's quite a few teams out there clamoring for a PG with Beno's skills. And there's also quite a few GM's willing to pay a little extra to get him.

There's also significant risk with Beno...we've had only one season to evaluate him and he's been injury prone (luckily not this season, though).

I think that Petrie should set the bar at no more than the MLE and 4 years. He's good, but not great. Anything more than the MLE, and I say let him walk...we're not going to the WCF anytime soon!
