I've yet to see a solid source that says they are actually close to a deal (I have read Amicks updates). It seems to be just speculation at this point, although talks probably have/are taken place. Unless a concrete story breaks before the game, I think Ron will suit up. If not, we know there's something in the works.

yah heh.. If he's not there than we know something is up.. I guess that's the biggest sign :)

Talked with my friend today, and it's nothing different than what is here. A lot of buzz, and it seems like everyones excited.. Pissible third team keeps coming up though.

ron will not stay. he commands more than 8 million a year taking into account his reputation.
There will be few teams with enough cap space to actually give him anywhere remotely near what he wants this off season. And none of them are contenders. Ron has also expressed that he wants to go to a contender first and foremost. There is also something about getting full bird rights, I'm not sure about it, I think Glenn mentioned it in another thread. Again, it's very possible Ron will do the unexpected. He's sporadic to say the least, we just don't know.

Not sure about Splitter's issues. A lot of buzz today. Think Artest will suit up tonight? I am thinking probably not. I know they are just rumors, but if something is close I am thinking it might be done/announced today. Keep your eyes open! :)

Think about this, if Ron is traded, in addition to the expirings and picks/young talent we get we also get John Salmons, the 18pt 5reb 5ast 1.5stl version who shoots 45% from 3pt range and makes big shots. The team seems to flow so much better with him than with Ron. I agree that Ron is big in the 4th quarter which is important but I believe this core can grow together to be a strong team all game long, 4th included.

I don't know if this is of relevance, but over on EBSports, Eze has breaking news about Artest, although you have to be a subscriber to view it. Supposedly, he breaks all the trades before the media. I haven't seen it, but posters on that site (and realgm, for what it's worth) say he's reliable and broke the Kidd, Bibby, KG etc. trades hours before anyone else.

Just a tidbit, may be completely irrelevant.

Spurs Closing In On Artest?
February 20, 2008 - 4:59 pm
Sacramento Bee -

According to the Sacramento Bee the Spurs are closing in on a deal for Ron Artest.

The Spurs would send the expiring contracts of Francisco Elson and Brent Barry for Artest and possibly include a draft pick.

It is also believed, however, that Denver may be ready to part ways with Linas Kleiza for Artest.

Houston also reportedly had conversations with the Kings about Artest

From hoopsworld:

The Denver Nuggets remain engaged in trade negotiations with the Sacramento Kings. As of Wednesday morning, the Nuggets had been reluctant to part with Linas Kleiza. However, according to a league source, the Nuggets are now "strongly considering" giving up Kleiza in a deal for Artest.

The source indicated that the San Antonio Spurs have now entered the bidding offering a package of Francisco Elson, Brent Barry and multiple draft picks. The Spurs late interest may have encouraged Denver to consider upping the ante in their pursuit of Artest.

Despite Denver's ongoing interest in Artest, Memphis' Mike Miller has been Denver's number one target from the start. However, one source stated that Miller has "been pulled off the table." The Nuggets made an effort to get him, but it appears they are going to come up short in their pursuit.

If Miller is indeed off the table as league sources have indicated, Artest is the last big name in play for the Nuggets. The argument being made by members of Denver's front office is that Artest is a great player, and if the Nuggets can get a great player by giving up complementary pieces, it's a move they have to get done if they can. It's not that people in Denver don't think highly of Kleiza, but at the end of the day he's currently a backup small forward. The thinking is that if Denver has to give up a couple of reserves and a draft pick to get a player of Artest's caliber, it's a deal they have to get done if they can.

As of this moment, no deal is imminent. And in addition to the Spurs, the Houston Rockets are also believed to be looking into the possibility of acquiring Artest. However, the Nuggets appear to be putting on one last full-court press in an effort to win the Artest sweepstakes.

Stay tuned to HOOPSWORLD for the latest.

Yah but it's just buzz. Nothing big though. Nothing more than is here. It's like we all know somethings going to happen, just not know with who or what. He told me yesterday there might be a 3rd team involved, and it was supposed to happen last night or today.. Well last night passed and nothing.. Here it is today..

Well, from what it seems from reading these articles, it looks like we can get some good value in return for Ron. I'm very excited, but I still have a sinking feeling at the bottom of my stomach that nothing will happen. I hope I'm wrong...

Out of curiosity, which deal would people prefer?
According to the articles, it's Najera, Kleiza and a pick, and the other deal being Barry, Elson and multiple picks (likely this years and future picks). If the SA deal included Splitter, I'd go with that, but that seems a little steep for them. At this moment, I may be inclined to lean towards the Nugs deal.

I would like to see some compilation of talent and pick(s) for him, if the alternative involves throwing 100million at him this summer or even worse, Free Agency gets him. I think the Spurs need this more than the Kings do...I think this kind of NBA style bidding is quite entertaining, but I think if they make a trade, it will be because Ron wants it. On his short list are...the Nuggets, Spurs, and probably Lakers. Seems like he enjoys the west coast, and considering the Hawks being our current east coast trade buddies, the West is where Artest should land...I vote Utah...Do they really think AK47>QB93?

At this point I'd say Ron has no input as to whether he's traded or not. I think Geoff would rather trade him, but may not want to give him up for too little. I don't think he's going to let Ron say whether he wants to stay or not, it's not his decision.

Don't get to excited yet, people.

His link takes me to Yahoo's NBA rumours page and something about Toronto on it. Nothing to do with the Kings.

Ban the idiot.

I actually did click on the link after, just took his word that he wouldn't be sad enough to do something like that beforehand. Say goodbye moosehog. Hopefully we won't be seeing you here again.

lol, i for one was not that excited for 2 picks at 25. i think kleiza has shown that he is a better pickup than that.

plus, its a lot of peoples fault they didnt click the link.

welcome, but im sure if you make that a habit, youll be gone in no time. they seem to run a very tight ship around here, and ive seen people get kicked off for less.
