well..
1) Hawes shot 4-16, which is pretty awful for a big, but it really wasn't as bad as all that. Showed some variety and feel for the game, inside and out (looks comfortable shooting jumpers wiht range, if not hitting them), and simply wasn't making his shots. Somewhat reminscient of Yi against us the other night actually. Man defense was solid, but was playing aginst awful competition (Visser does not look NBA ready, and nobody else was anybody). Rebounding continues to be a "?" wiht only 6 more tonight in 30+ against scrubs. He has not really looked too slow to get them, nor too weak, he just doesn't. Obviously must be because he is playing next to Justin, because as everybody knows if you play next to a good rebounder you must inevitably suck.
2) Cisco was at it again and pretty dominant (as well as sporadically out of control of course), only this time damn near hurt himself, and then damn near hurt a couple of the Wizards. Its like a 6th grader coming down to play ringer against the 3rd graders. I might well say that whatever he;s out there trying to prove to coach, he's proved, and then sit him down. Its like Kevin or Ron last year. An opportunity to get hurt, and while Cisco will have all of training camp to impress the coaches, this is the only shot most of the rest of these guys are going to get.
3) Justin was back at it as well. There was no size or strength inside to check him, but his success was still largely due to him just being hungry and playing harder than his opponents. Has definitely bulked up too. Not 260, unless everybody currently listed at 260 in fact weighs 300, but did not stand out for being skinny, and if you did not know his history you would not have remarked on his build at all. Could easily be up in the 230-240 range, which is generally big enough for a smallish big.
4) Shakur played solidly donw the strecth of this one. Under control, set people up. Nothing dazzling, but looked like a real PG.
5) Watkins was pretty solid again. Meat and potaties and I don't know if its enough to get a camp invite, but he;s solid at the things he does.
6) Donta Smith scored a lot of points, but I still wasn't overly impressed. Sumemr league scorer = so what. A few nice moves, a few forces, did not get any feel for what was his bread and butter.
7) I missed Douby's early stint. When he came back later to run some point he did ok. Just making the expected pass.
8) Pooh was better this time out in limited minutes.
9) Those announcers...were clearly on drugs. I'm thinking ecstasy -- they just loved everyone. They loved all of our players no matter what they did, all of the other team's players no matter what they did, they loved each other, the guys in the booth. They loved the guys they interviewed..heck, I'm more than a little worried they snuck in a little loving for me in there somewhere. And you know what? They love you too.
10) Reggie gets an F for coming on and talking about his plans (and our "need") for making the playoffs next year. His comments about Brad were interesting though, and either alarming or refreshing. First, he started off talking about Brad like he was definitely going to be back and we were even going to run the team around him (oh yay!
), but then he switched gears and sdtarted talking about the fact that Brad was fat and out of shape at the moment and if he wasn't up to the job...
Which actually again might mean he's coming back, because trashing your own player who could be up for a trade isn't really bright. The whole thing did make me wonder how much he and Geoff are talking/on the same page. And if they are...crap.
