[GSW/DAL] "We're going to go like hell."

Not a Warriors fan but it's nice to see someone in Northern California is getting it done and I hope they do win that series. A shame it's not us.

If the Warriors win this series and the Rockets beat Utah, do you think Houston would try and run with the Warriors lol or would they simply post up TMac on the low block and post up the 7'5" Yao Ming? ha ha

Avery is going against his teacher to some extent and is having a tough time beating nellie in terms of game plan. Nellie seems to have figured out Avery's counter move before it comes but the biggest thing with nellie is he really doesnt care to most extent on defense and is just letting the players fly and shoot threes all over the place.

That offense is not something new, that is the same one nellie used when he was in dallas, all those threes pouring from richardson, davis and harrington are all what nash, finley and dirk were doing before, same moves. Run the floor, show penetration, give it to trailing big for three. Post up on a mismatch and let the rest stay on the three point line. He even had Lafrentz as a center shooting threes all game long without taking a single shot inside the circle.

Avery's problem is that he did not look at some of those tapes and how some of the other teams beat the mavs then with a post up game and slower tempo. Look at how the lakers, kings or spurs beat nellies team then

1. Dont get rattled by the lead they can get, they are jump shooters and some will go in and some will not, but overall the shooting % will be around 40 - 45 % for most games. So you can get back in the game by just chipping away the lead and jump shooters get tired in the second half, they will miss jump shots under pressure when the game is on the line.

2. Dont change your game plan to suit according to theirs, play your game.

3. Expose them on defense for their small ball and take only high % shots, anyone trying to run with them or shooting threes to show they can also shoot threes should return to the bench.

4. Guys who are running are davis, richardson and they are the bigger threat in the open floor. Find ways to contain their run, meaning on their end of the floor keep them closer to the basket as much as possible, that will not allow them to free up and run as quickly as they are now.

5. Perimeter guys are cheating and are showing a hand and actually taking off on the run when a guy is taking a jump shot, take advantage of that and penalize them for cheating. For instance when when some takes a jump shot at the top of the circle baron davis shows a hand and actually takes off for a fast break and by the time the rebound is taken he is at the other basket. Penalize him for that, fake that jump shot and pass that ball, now you get a 5 on 4 game, plus you force davis to spend more energy to come back to this end again.

6. They dont have an answer for Dampiers size, post him up everytime down the floor, let him get deep post position then hit him, it will be layups or dunks every time. Other plays should be post up, post up and post up. That will offense will limit their fast break and half the battle is won.

But I enjoy GS playing this game and it is really fun to see this team flying all over the place. I dont hate cuban, actually i like him for whatever he has done for the game and i like him for being a real fan of his team and trying to correct some of the wrong things happening in the nba. He could easily chose to sit in the owners box and hide away from the camera like most owners do, but win or lose he is there with the fans and carrying his emotions on his sleeve. His team could win or lose but he is there for the team, which you cant say about any other team in the league.

you're not the first to say "postup dampier". the problem with that is that he stinks. he's no post player. he needs to stick to what he does best. and that's tapping out rebounds. the warriors are a scrappy team, but they play ORGANIZED basketball. they have players that can make great passes and play good one on one. the kings of this year is an example of a sloppy team. the warriors actually have a gameplan. and they execute their set offense. they're just too athletic for dallas

hahaha that game was freaking awesome last night. i just LOVED it. great pic there piksi!

i hope the warriors take it to the mavs. how sweet would that be?

Yes he stinks and he has no post move. But he is big enough and stronger than anyone the warriors can throw at him to just overpower them. They shouldnt just throw the ball in the post and clear up for him to make a post move to score, he cant do that.

But what he can do is, move from weakside to strong across the lane, hit him during that move and he gets a dunk or layup. If the defense denies that, swing the ball around and try it all over again on the other side. There are open positions when they front him or have a smaller player on him. There will be foul calls, three point plays and easy baskets. It should be about post, repost and post some more. They just cant think posting dirk for a fadeaway jumper is the solution to things.

ok, this is not a good game plan for dallas. if they have to go through eric dampier on offense they're gona end up watching the playoffs in sports bars like the rest of us.

Thanks for the great picture Piksi. I might have to make that my avatar for the duration of the playoffs. Since the Kings are not in, all I really care about is seeing Cuban miserable.

It should also be noted that at halftime of Game 2, Sir Charles boldly predicted that the Mavs would win games 2-5. Wrong again Charles.

While entertaining, Charles is no more insightful in regards to the NBA than the average member of this forum.

i hate the fact that they are saying that the Warrriors have the most loyal fans..

Yeah, that's been a silly refrain here of late.

Will say thought that arena looked like old Arco last night. Its all fresh and new and exciting to them again. Also of course yet more evidence that no matter how bad you are, you get good/exciting, the fans will come back.

I feel bad for the Mavs, too. I don't like seeing number-one seeds lose in the first round, and I don't like the Warriors, anyway.

I can't stand Cuban but I feel bad for the Mavs. I don't know why.
I really don't like the Mavs and can't stand Cuban. I don't think I have any room for feeling sorry for them. Cuban has spent a ridculous amount of money trying to buy a championship, which still may work. This series is not over, by a long shot.

If they lose, the only place they need look is in the mirror. I thought after choking so badly last year, they'd be loaded for bear this year. Apparently not. They've pretty much had their entire roster healthy for last year and this year's playoff run, too, right?

Yes and no. IF it happens I think the 94 Nuggets would still be the more surprising story. You have to factor in the regular season record as being an indication that this may not be your typical 1 vs. 8. Also the Nellie coaching against his former team and protege angle may bounce a few extra intangibles to the Warriors side. And correct me if I'm wrong but the Sonics did take the first two games of that series, didn't they?

On the other hand this would be the first time for it to happen in a 7 game series and many predicted that this type of an upset could never happen in a 7 game series (although it has happened 2 or 3 times in an NHL 7 game series).
Thing would be that the Mavs are one of 7 teams that won 67 games. They'd be the only one that didn't win a title healthy. The only other team that didn't do it was the 73 Celtics who lost Havlicek to injury in the playoffs.

The Nuggets came on strong in 94 at the end, but they did have inside out ball. That wasn't a small ball team by any means. Mutombo was practically impenetrable in 94 and 95 too. Hell, I think he set the 5-gm record for blocks in that series alone. Plus they had Rogers before he became a 3 pt shooter and Brian Williams and LaPhonso and Mahmoud. Better team than this year's Warriors.

Now all GS has to do is seal the deal. :) Probably won't happen, but still fun to ponder.

I'll give you the Nuggets being better than the Warriors. Win totals aside (Sonics had 62 that year?) the Sonics were expected to run away with the West that year whereas this year the West is expected to be a battle.

Strictly looking at the two teams playing each other this one would be the bigger upset, but the Nuggets would still be more surprising imho.

Crowd cheering in the first half at Oakland Arena...anouncers say, "that beats Arco." Sour grapes I guess, but that ticked me off a little.
Lovin the NBA again w/ the resurgence of the Golden State Warriors. Would love to see them upset the Mavs in this series. The Bay Area has come alive and reminds me of the good old days w/ the Sacramento Kings.

Why not have the Oakland Arena go mad w/ frenzy. They got a great and exciting team to cheer on.

Go Warriors
Prove Nellie wrong...

I'm happy for the fans. Just not sold on the crowd being better than Arco...yet.

Holy ****. The Baron heaves one in at the half. This is bringing me back to life. What a game. What a series. Stay tuned for a barn burner in the second half! Northern California stays alive w/ the Golden State Warriors. Love it!!!
