Lottery position thread

So let me put it to you this way: Would you rather have a greater chance of getting Oden or Durant in the draft, or would you rather beat the Lakers?
If I could, I'd let the Lakers beat us this year AND NEXT in order to get 5th or 6th in ping pong balls.

LOL!

Guys, why are you trying to convince me? It's not like who I root for has any impact on who wins or loses the game!

You guys crack me up.

Last game of the year is NY at Charlotte. Need Charlotte to win.
I tend to disagree, I think NY should win.

Right now, both teams have 32 wins (as do we).

Charlotte has an easy game against Milwaukee, but little chance of winning any other game besides the NY one.

NY has no probable wins except maybe the game with Charlotte.

So we want Charlotte to beat Milwaukee, getting 33 wins, and NY to beat Charlotte, also getting 33 wins. Any other likely scenario lets one of them tie our 32.

On the bright side, because the Blazers and Sonics are playing each other as are the Bobcats and Knicks ... as long as we lose the rest of our games we're guaranteed to gain ground on at least 2 of them.

That would put us in 7th if I'm calculating right ... so we really are still in control of our own destiny.

Also puts the Laker game in perspective, since a win would void the guarantee.

Fine. I care. I'd love to knock the Lakers out of the playoffs. I guess it's just me.

Most likely the game won't matter anyway by that time.
Anything can happen in the playoffs like a star player going down with a major or even minor injury. Look at us against Dallas when Webber went down!
If we can knock LAL out of the playoffs in the last game then I hope we do. With a game of that on the table and having the satisfaction of knowing you knocked them out is just too great...we are talking about the Lakers!!!! ;)

Any other team we have to keep losing, but against the Lakers in a game for their playoff lives, then we should really try to knock them out. This is kind of the same scenario as seeking the death penalty for someone and getting it over with right away (beating them in the last game which decides if they make the playoffs or not) or having the guy endure a long prolonged death in prison (LAL being swept by the Suns/Mavs).

Hopefully in doing so we don't miss the lottery ourselves. Eventhough we stumbled into the playoffs the past few years with the talent bleed, we did make the playoffs 8 years straight and this should be worth something. ;)

Our needs our more important than knocking the stupid lakers out of the playoffs. Who the hell cares about the lakers? They're not going anywhere anyways, you want us to potentially miss out on a player that could have a significant effect on our franchise just to knock them out of the playoffs and give them a much better draft position?

From rotoworld: "The injury has reportedly been bothering Garnett for months so he's going to have it looked at. While he hasn't been ruled out for the year, it would be shocking to see him play again. Of course, if the Wolves were going to make the playoffs, we probably never would have heard a word about this injury."

Sounds about like the Ray Allen tank job.

When was the last time our roster was checked for athlete's foot, I'd like to know?

You REALLY don't get it. WHO FREAKING CARES ABOUT THE LAKERS RIGHT NOW? Jeebus. Bro. Get ahold of yourself. Look at the standings. A single win could mean the difference between 5-7th and or somewhere around 11th or 12th. If we are 5th-7th we also have a very decent shot at a Top 3 pick. At 11th or 12th the chances are next to nothing.

FORGET THE LAKERS. THINK ABOUT THE KINGS!

The 3 recent wins over the Suns, Jazz, and now Grizzlies are already killing us as it is. If we lose those, we are currently tied for fourth.

UGH.

And knowing our luck, we'd knock them out of the PO just to see them get the #1 pick in the lottery with a 1.2% chance or whatever.....

So is Ron out for the season?

If he is we can FINALLY join the rest of the close lotto race teams shutting down a starter or two for doubious reasons...

Although...We seem to play better without Ron. Especially with Cisco lightin it up.

Big woss by PHIL tonight. Come on everybody lets pray for a miracle. That the Sonics beat PHX at home.

By the way the Twolves play Memphis at home for their last game. There is still hope the Twolves close out with 33 wins.

Nice lin in San Antonio tonight.

1. Memphis 19-60 - clinched #1 position
2. Boston 23-55
3. Milwaukee 26-52
4. Atlanta 29-49 - So close, but they will never get to that protected #3. I hate them.
5. Seattle 31-48
6. Portland 31-47
7. Charlotte 32-47
8/9/10. Sac/Minnesota/NY 32-46
11. Philly 33-45

Will edit later in the evening, once the Portland and Seattle games are done.
EDIT: Got to add Portland and Seattle results early, they're both losing badly.

Looks like the Blazers are really stinkin' it up.
With no Zach, no Przybilla and no Aldridge, stinkin' it up is going to come easy to 'em.

Just like Minnesota without KG, Seattle without Allen or Watson, Boston without Pierce or Jefferson, Milwaukee without Redd or Villanueva, Atlanta without Joe Johnson, or NY without Richardson or Marbury...

Wow... amazing that Muss can lose so many games without even trying. Everybody else is bending over backwards to give 'em away.

Luckily Seattle and Portland are playing each other on Saturday, and one of those teams has to win. Charlotte and New York play each other on April 18th and one of those teams has to win. If the Kings lose out the rest of the season they should be at worst tied for 6.

Let's hope.

Charlotte also play Milwaukee and Minny plays Memphis so we could own 6th outright just by losing the last 5. Just sit Justin Williams so it doesn't increase his value.

Um, maybe you don't get it. Here's the deal. People are different. We have different opinions. SOME of us CARE about the LAKERS LOSING.

GOT IT??

It's a discussion forum where people have DIFFERENT opinions?

GOT IT?

I appreciate that you don't care. Fine. Some of us do. What difference does it make? NONE!

Yuck, to be at the same level as the Knicks and WORSE than the Sixers.

How humiliating.

We want to be worse than the Knicks too. All fo these teams are going to finish wihtin 1-2 games of each other. To be the one who finsihes 1 game ahead of the loser pack and picks 11th instead of 6th for that awesome extra victory is the epitome of loserhood.

These games lately have been way too close. We need to lin so bad, no wosses will be acceptable IMO. We can't afford to miss out.

Couldn't agree more. The Phoenix and Utah wins could be killers. It would be soooooooooooo ironic if the Lakers, of all teams, in the last game of the season, lose against the Kings, thereby giving the 11th pick to the Kings. With all the management lunacy this season, it would seem almost just - total "loserhood". I'm still waiting to see Price and Douby get more minutes than trade-block Bibby...

Does anyone know what day the Lottery will be held? It's televised right, or at least the results are announced live on TV.

It's been so long since we were involved I've completely forgot how it works.

The lottery will be on May 22 this year.

As far as I know, the closest thing you're going to get to live coverage is the announcement after they determine the top 3. After the top 3, everything else (except breaking ties) follows automatically. A full list, including tie breakers, should be available soon after.

Thank You.

So that means we have more than a month of speculation before we even know WHERE we'll be drafting.

Those lotto balls can't start bouncing soon enough.

Not only televised, but they've got a full on halftime show. The actual drawing is made backstage, and then they trot out representatives from every team, have them sit there at desks with their teams logo on them, and then start bringing up placards on a big board behind them of everybody;s draft position, starting wiht 14th, then 13th, then 12th, etc. so it builds tension over who's got the #1/#2/#3.

Wow. Didn't realize they'd turned it into some sort of... beauty pageant.
I now understand why lottery witnesses have begun complaining about how long they have to wait without restroom access (they are locked into the room before the drawing begins, and have to stay there until the announcement is made).
