Kings place Taylor on waivers

Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie announced Tuesday that the team has requested waivers on little-used forward Maurice Taylor.

Taylor, a 10-year veteran in his first season with the Kings, played in just 12 games. He averaged 2.0 points and 2.3 rebounds. He signed a one-year contract just before training camp in October for the league-minimum $1.06 million.

It was a troubled stay in Sacramento for Taylor, who previously played for the Knicks, Rockets and Clippers. He came to camp out of shape and failed to pass coach Eric Musselman's conditioning test until after the season started.

On Dec. 6, the league suspended Taylor for five games for violating the league's anti-drug policy.

Was this done to make more room for Williams? Did Mo ask out? Was he being a problem? I mean as far as I can tell this looks like a move that's irrelevant. Mo is irrelevant whether he stays or goes IMO, he sucks so what is the point?

^Yeah, I'm guessing this is Williams related. The Maloofs probably want to save some cash if they're going to re-sign Williams for the rest of the season.

to me, the point is that this at least signals some room for change. we were all against the signing of mo taylor, in lieu of williams. it seems that we got our wish, and the two have switched places. its a glimmer of hope to me(with the youth movement), perhaps signaling more changes to come?

It might also be that there's a trade in the works, which would bring an additional guy here.

I hate to get my hopes up, but it's possible.

Well, normally you waive guys simultaneous wiht the trade, but yeah I guess. Would think this is probably Williams related...not that we even played him last night, but that he can fill in for just as cheap. And also might be Mo Taylor related, as in Williams takes his spot on the active roster and Mo, one of those vet FAs trying to secure another deal, asks to be let go so that he can go join somebody who will play him.

Should we send Petrie an "I told you so" email and all sign it? :p

Hopefully we keep cleaning up house and Price is next. That or package him up and trade him before the deadline. Keeping him will do nobody favors, him included.

Pot was sitting in his normal seat on the baseline adjacent to the Kings bench. He sits there every game. Williams took Mo's place on the bench.

is BUY OUT the same thing as getting WAIVED? are we still paying Mo his full salary?
A buy out can happen at a discounted rate, by agreement between the team and the player.

However, a discounted buyout must happen fairly early in the year, and we have already passed the deadline for that.

Therefore, there was nothing to be discussed, and he was waived with full pay.

A-Men to that!

Hopefully Justin gets signed and receives more PT. Our current PF/Backup C's have made their case...there quality of play can only get so much better or worse. Conversely, Justin has alot of upside, seemingly great enthusiasm, and determination...and rebounding skills to boot. And he's passed all drug tests thus far ;) .

a new signing or trade must happen soon. otherwise i dont see why we would waste $1mil. just place him on the in active list and use his expiring as a trade filler.

Probably he was waived so he could hope to catch on to another team. He won't be picked up until he clears waivers over the next 48 hours and he'll count 100% against the Kings cap for whatever part of his contract was guarenteed. Really no benefit here other than he frees up a locker and courtside chair.

Makes sense to waive him. Just Williams can give us as much if not more than what Mo could give. This should assure that Justin is being signed for the rest of the season.

I hope there is a trade in the works this looks like it was done to clear up some roster space. Like we ship of 1 guy for 2 or 2 guys for 3. We should have 14 spots with Justin hopefully being signed for the rest of the year and MO being waived.

If we don't trade Hart by the deadline I think we do the same with him. He is itching to move to another team if he can infact play in the NBA after his guanteed contract is up this year.

Do you mean Hart? I don't want Price going anywhere and he's way better than Jason Hart.
