Next 10 Games: Last Stand at the Suc-K Corral

As so now finally we come to it. A week ago we were looking at the 5 games upcoming (at that time) and trying to predict how we'd do. Not real well as it turns out. But now we have come to the end of that little game --because looking at our schedule for the rest of the season, the next 10 games taking us right through the end of January, well...last stand. Win now or forever hold your peace.

1) 4 of the next 5 games are against members of the Atlantic division, the suckiest division in sports with exactly zero winning teams;

2) 7 of the 10 games are against teams with losing records

3) there are only 2 should be losses (@Dal, @Det), and even there Detroit is sliding a bit. There is one more likely loss @Minn, where we already dropped one this season.

4) we catch Milwaulkee without Michael Redd -- they have not won a game since he got injured. We catch Boston without Paul Pierce. We catch New Orleans without their entire starting lineup -- injuries have ruined their season. However Memphis does have Pau back for our game against them.

5) On the flip side, and potential disaster side, 8 of the 10 are on the road, where we are 4-9 on the year.

The Schedule:

@ New York (16-22)
@ Toronto (17-21)
@ Boston (12-22)
@ Detroit (21-14)
New Jersey (16-20)
Milwaulkee (16-20)
@ New Orleans (14-22)
@ Dallas (31-8)
@ Memphis (9-29)
@ Minnesota (19-17)

Throw out the Dallas loss and a collective 47 games under .500 for the other 9. It just doesn't get any easier in the NBA. But its on the road. Either way you have to believe that no matter how deluded the Maloofs may be, if we do not clean up here, if we come out of this soft stretch of opponents still far below .500, that would have to be it. Right? Win or rebuild?

Haven't we passed this point already? I mean, if our sole hope is to beat up on the Atlantic, we are in the wrong division and NOT going in the right direction.

The fans have......the Maloofs are still on the "we're not too far away from having the 8th spot and making the playoffs"

In the mind of the Maloofs it may be in their best interest for the Kings to make the playoffs as the 8th seed - same as last year. A worse record with virtually the same squad clearly shows that they made a mistake with the coaching change.
Having the Kings "succeed" will in a sense justify the move. "The young coach had some bumps along the way but he got the team where we knew they could be. After this adjustment, next year will look even more promising, etc. etc., looking for players to take us to the next level, etc. etc."

Note: These are not my feelings - just trying to make sense where none is found.

I agree with Warhawk. Say we do go 7-3 in this stretch and gain some hope as well as an almost .500 record, that still means nothing. It's vs some of the worst teams in the NBA and come March any ground we make up will be lost.

This is my first post here. Have visted for many years but at this point i have to contriubute and share my opinion as my team is at a point of being a bottom dweller again.
HighFly i am completly on your side. I am in the Tank Bandwagon. All i see in my sleep is Oden and Wright. This teams needs to be torn down now. At first i was reluctant to do away with Bibby but as you look in the 2008 draft there are 2 big time point gaurds in the lottery.
My dream would be to somehow keep Artest if he could somehow keep his head on and understand what we are doing and also play in a fashion that helps the team (no ball hogging, posting up scoring and passing out of the post) of course this is in my dreams and it would speed up the time we are at the bottom. This scenerio we would have a big time big man a good SF a solid scorer in Martin and any of the two Point Guards in the 2008 draft. Thats two superstars and 2 very very good supporting cast members. Or we could trade artest for a pick in this years draft or next years and pick up a very good athletic SF there are plenty of those. This would be a young but talented team. Of course it is just in my dreams and it is not that easy. But look at our team we have a few solid players that can step in with a superstart or two and really make a move. We just need to suck to get that superstar, a Big Man superstar. And next year his Robin and our future is bright.
The funny thing is that i am undecided on who i would want. Oden will be a beast on D and Boards. But Wright will be a better offensive player ala Webber/KG in his career. He also is a good shot blocker but not as strong of an all around defender as Oden. I guess its up to if you have the abilty to score from other positions.

A side of caution there are a few bigs that will be a mistake one of them is Gray. For a center he is the best offensively but cant jump over a newspaper to save his life. He would just be another Brad Milller. The other guy is Noah. Just by looking at him i can tell he wont do anything in the league. A guy that can be a steal depending on where we stand and depending on how old he really is the 7'3 guy from Africa. He is tall and very athletic. Also the asian kid comming out. I will be honest at first i was like umm no. But he can actually jump out of his shoes and is very aggrssive i think he can do something in this league.

I think we are going 3 in 7, we couldn't even beat the kincks, lol. I think it would be easiser just to name the teams that we could beat instead of teams we going to lose to, lol. So in my opinion it will be the Hornets, Girzz, and Boston.

The trick is getting a high enough pick to get EITHER of them.

Now find me a way to get both young grasshopper and we will forever be in your debt. ;)

is it 8 and we are working on it. Hell, it is the only thing we can be good at this season - losing games

It doesn't matter if we have the worst record. We just need our ping pong ball to be drawn 1st. We should get so lucky.

I think it's a complete waste of time for any King fan to go to a Kings game and i mean it, maybe some people like supporting the team even though there in complete tank-mode but to me.. i will never go to a game when you know the team is in complete tank-mode.

Brick and Eze you are right. The best thing we can do is LOOOOOOOOOSE to the bad teams. It gives us one in the loss column and gives them one in the winning column. If the kings are in Tank Mode this trip is the trip to loose in. Remember the worst recond does not guarantee the no. 1 pick. Just a 25 percent chance at it. Teams 1-4 have a very very good shot at the top pick. If we can get pick 1 or 2 i will cry with joy

Oh stop.

They are playing hard rihgt now. They just aren't very good.

And if complete tank mode means playing a bunch of young guys and watching them develop, that's far mroe interesting than watching a bunch of old guys struggle needlessly.

Joker if i knew they were losing on purpose i would go just to cheer for the opposing team while wearing my kings jersey. Because i know the pleasure i might get come draft time

The 97 Spurs team also played hard, but at the end they still tanked. the Kings are doing the samething. same story different game mental errors are unacceptable when you do it everytime.

The '97 Spurs were ravaged by injuries, and their tanking had nothgin to do with "menatl errors" -- those happen to EVERY bad team, part of being bad. The Spurs tankign came in roster decisions and coaching decisions, since of course their GM and coach were the same entity (I think he held both titles at the time, certainly canned the coach and came don out of the front office).

So would you prefer us barely making the 8th seed and getting swept in the playoffs year after year? Not me id rather see us develop douby, martin, garcia and williams. Loose a bunch get the top 3 pick for the next 2 or 3 years. Trade away the developed guys we can affordt to trade away. 2g for us since we are stacked. For the rest of the pieces and we are back in the game cow bells, purple pride and all.

I'm sure developing the kids will be more important but at the end you have veterans like Bibby, Ron, Brad and Sar who want to win and not see the kids develop.

u are the most negative person ive ever seen, whether youre truthfully speaking or not... you need to stop getting so angry at this team they have no inside presence and the group of players is not assembled right at all.

If anyone thinks this team is deliberately tanking games, it has to be people that actually think this is a reasonably good team losing on purpose. That's a delusion, IMHO. We are a bad team and that is why we are losing.

Now that I've accepted we are a bad team, its much easier to watch and hope we are actually bad enough to make a difference for the future. I don't like watching my beloved Kings lose and play so poorly, but I accept that they really are no better than their record shows.
