And the rich get richer...
Well, I wish Chris well as always. I would HATE to see him in LA. I think Miami would be a crazy situation. Detroit would be interesting to say the least. Somewhere in Texas I think would be best for him. I just hope he gets what he's searching for.
The problem for CWebb at this point, as I see it, is that there is not an "ideal" situation for him to move into right now, at least not if he is hoping for a Karl Malone-move-to-the-Lakers type situation where he steps into a team making a run at a title that has a need for a PF to play 25 to 30 minutes per game.
In fact, I do not think any of the 5 teams he has mentioned provide a perfect fit:
Miami - Haslem performs pretty well for the Heat, and provides athleticism that CWebb just hasn't shown since his knee injury. Considering that Shaq and Zo are the centers, and those two players are not exactly spry anymore, either, adding CWebb to the mix doesn't seem to be ideal from a defensive perspective. I doubt he would be handed Haslem's starting slot upon arrival.
Detroit - With Sheed, McDyess and Nazr on the roster, he's going to be in a 4-man rotation. Considering that the Pistons players pride themselves on giving effort on defense, and considering that CWebb's main problem since his knee injury has been on the defensive side of the ball, I'm not sure this move makes much sense, even if CWebb would like to play for his "hometown" team to finish up his career.
Spurs - Well, Duncan is already there, and Popovich doesn't like guys that can't play defense first. CWebb could potentially steal starter's minutes at C since Oberto and Elson haven't exactly torn the league up this year, but CWebb's addition doesn't help the Spurs with their biggest weakness at the moment (defending athletic bigs).
Mavs - Dirk may be playing as well as anyone in the NBA right now, and Diop and Dampier eat up all of the C minutes. The Mavs also like to use a small unit with Dirk at C and Devean George at PF because George is an effort/hustle guy...I don't know if CWebb would fit into that frontcourt rotation all that well, and as the Mavs' front office has already indicated, they could only see him getting 15 minutes per game at most, which is close to half of CWebb is hoping for.
Lakers - at this point, due to all of the injuries to their frontcourt, this would be CWebb's best chance to make an immediate impact. I'm not certain whether he would continue to get the same opportunities once Kwame Brown gets healthy, though, although CWebb would still be the Lakers third PF/C option at worst at that point (in the mix with Bynum and Brown). I'd have to think that Phil would rather run CWebb at the PF than Radmanovic IF CWebb can fit into the triangle.
However, even if the Lakers are his best chance to earn minutes, they are easily the least likely of the 5 teams to have a good shot at making the NBA Finals. I think the Mavs have the best shot, but CWebb runs the risk of not fitting into the rotation, which could lead to him waiving a towel for a winner.
