Welcome to the Clan of Lowered Expectatons.

We're a friendly group. We're Kings fans primarily; fans who, for a couple of years, actually knew what it felt like to breathe the rarified air of the elite top few teams.

Alas, however, those times have gone. We are no longer fans of an elite team. Truth be told, we're not even fans of a very good team right now.

Is there potential? Some. Is there reason to hope? There's always reason to hope. Is there reason to make plans to attend the playoffs this year? Well, I wouldn't be counting on watching Kings basketball in May.

From now on, I'm not going to get upset over the tragic mismatches I see on the court. That's not my problem. That's Geoff Petrie's problem. I'm not going to be stunned by the starting lineups that I see going onto the court. That's not my problem. That's Eric Musselman's problem. And, ironically, the circle continues because Eric Musselman may well become Geoff Petrie's problem.

How I see my role is that of supporting the players through thick and thin. All I ask is that they at least show a modicum of effort and do their jobs to the best of their ability.

I'm taking applications for additional converts to the CLE. If you're interested in joining, just let me know. We don't have a bandwagon or anything; we just kind of wander around aimlessly, much like our team, waiting for something to happen.

:D Have you ever seen the lowered expectations skit on Mad TV? It is a matchmaking service. Could not help but have the goofy tune running through my head while reading VF's post.

if i ever have the time, i will try to argue why the current kings team can be mostly attributed to adelman. that is not a popular approach, i know and adelman has really achieved a lot, not denying that. it is just that i did not like adelman because of his risk-free approach with not much strategy for the future. just for comparison, look where the mavs and the kings have come within the span of a few years.

as for the lowered expectations, well, it is sad. not having that warm and fuzzy feeling watching your favorite team is a bummer.

Good news VF! - I'm in. I am sure that you were hoping that I would be one of the first aboard.;)

While I am not crazy about the name of the group, I do support the principle of the group. I am a big believer that the joys and rewards of being a fan do not come in the form of a championship, but rather the journey of striving for greatness and perhaps a championship one day.

We are on the journey. Perhaps we will be in the desert for the next 40 years - maybe not, regardless - let's enjoy the journey.

Or at least ENDURE it when we can't quite enjoy it!

I'm in, but I am also keeping my "rose-colored glasses" and "pollyanna pass" to use on occasion.:D

Works for me! I have three pairs of purple slippers!

In case I need to clarify, I still love this team with every fibre of my being. That won't change.

:D

And one small request?

Let's keep this light, if at all possible. There are so many gloomy threads right now.

I must have been deployed for those years where Adelman was the GM...

I'm a member. Have been for a while I guess. Just knowing that I can have lowered expectations because of the worst possible scenario (Those Knicks I tell you.....) is reason enough for me.

That was what came right to mind for me, too.

Can't say that I blame Adelman particularly, Petrie and the Maloofs are credited (or blamed) with making the decision on pretty much every personnel transaction. He didn't seem all that thrilled with the (probably good) Artest acquisition, and he was pretty much in tears over the (probably bad) Webber trade, so I can't assume that those were in any way his call. Most of the other bad trades of the last 5 years were purely cost-cutting maneuvers, so would have been Petrie's jurisdiction. Adelman may have put a lot of work into getting players to improve their offensive and ballhandling skills, but obviously those things wear off if not kept up. He often left players in for too many minutes, and he didn't always call time outs when he should have, but those have nothing to do with anything happening now. So I think RA is pretty much irrelevant at this point, and others should be getting the credit or blame for the current status of the team.

My expectations for the *players* were lowered when I saw Webber fall during the Dallas series. Since then, all that's changed is that I no longer expect management to make things better.

If that qualifies me, sure, sign me up for a date with Ms Swan.

Well, I guess you could call me a member of the 'Dick Motta Clan of Kings Fans with Lowered Expectations from the Past'. This wasnt really that hard to do. I dont think things will get THAT bad, but I am a founding member from a time long(or not that long) ago, so I'm pretty much ready for whatever happens.:D

Yea, know what you mean. It's not that bad right now. They are pretty good if they can just put it together. They do have some pieces that don't stink. SOOOO, I'm not going to join the club. Think they will do better.!!!

While loving my Kings, I still joined the CLE somewhere around season's start when I realized Petrie's off-season work was done.

Thanks for the invitation, VF. I seem to remember being a member of this group many years ago. I'm sorry I let my membership expire, but for a while it felt great to be able to renounce my Lowered Expectations past. Do you offer a discounted 5 year membership plan?

Well, I know what you mean there, I did more work on my boat then he did on the team. But, we don't have much difference in starting players as last year. Bonzi gone, Salmons in, Martin doing better. Not much difference. Except, Brad being hurt, Bibby being hurt. Brad's back, don't know if Bibby will get back. Will need to do some sort of a trade to get a big. Even with Bibby's no D, If he was back at over 40% we would have had at least 2 more wins. And we would not even be having this debate. I am not a Bibby lover, I would like to trade him. But facts are facts.

Lowered expectations? As measured in wins, I tagged this team at 35 before the season started - a lot less than most here. They're at .500 now, so heck... I'm not going to lower expectations to fewer wins yet. (keword "yet"). Check back with me in January, though. ;)

I think that's about the time I realized it too.

I do have to say having Kevin to watch develop his game to new levels helps keep the excitement alive. :D
