Move Over Kenyon... Kevin Is The New K-mart!!

#3
I wanted to see how kings fans felt about this.. we need to downgrade kenyon's name to circle K and upgrade kevin to being the 1 and only K-Mart!

KMart is a struggling company while Kevin Martin is a rising Star. I like K$. I just love this kid, he is awesome and really becoming a star before our eyes. It's so neat to have that young kid drafted late to become a star and be on your team. It's also not just his offensive, which is amazing at his high % of made shoots, but his defense is very good as he is so quick he regularily beats PGs. :)

The broadcasters are going to continue to call him K-Mart. I, on the other hand, will call him Kev, Kevin, or Martin. Most of all, however, I'll call him the starting two-guard for the Sacramento Kings!!!!

This idea that a player has to have a nickname has gotten way out of hand, IMHO.

K$ looks pretty good in type but sounds really presumptuous out loud, especially at this point in his career. And for some reason I cannot explain, whenever I hear it I think of Kevin Federline. EWWWWWW!!!!!

I dunno, it sounded pretty good when I was screaming it at the game the other night. Seriously, I understand your point (people were looking at me funny- but that is nothing new  ). If he keeps this up, he will have earned it by the end of the season.

In the meantime, I will continue to type it.

K$ for 40!!!!

OK - so K$ is to pretentious and KMart is taken. It is getting to be time for something more than Kevin- IMO. I guess we will just have to wait for the right one to stick.

Fans should call Kevin whatever catchy nicknames they want...part of the fun of fandom. Lots of creative folks here have come up with great nicks in the past.

However, we know all too well now that no new nickname will stick for our #23. Last year, the "Special K" tag originated out of this website (a neat idea, actually), art work was created by a board member (Kevin superimposed on a Special K box), and it was even aired on Comcast (courtesy of Kingsgurl). Kozimor used the nickname a few times afterwards, but it died on the vine.

Kevin was KMart since way back when, and since those "first name initial-half last name" nicks are still in vogue, that's what he will likely be....unless the mega-influential Shaq becomes a teammate and christens him something else (ie, DWade dubbed the "Flash").

BTW, the "Flash" was tossed out here as a nick for Kevin, only a couple weeks BEFORE Shaq bestowed that title to his teammate.

^ Agree on every part with VF! "K-Fed" is an animal  !

For the nicknames, I think K-Mart is what Kevin should stick with... no one even thinks of Kenyon when you say K-Mart.. at least I hope not...

i like k-money. it has a nice ring to it. however, he hasn't really hit proved himself to be worthy of the nickname money quiet yet. a few buzzer beaters/game winners/clutch killer shots will make it a reality IMO :D

however, k-mart is the best and easiest nickname i can think of for kevin.

eh, K$ just seems pretentious and full-of-self to me, even after you've earned it. Kev strikes me as anything BUT pretentious. Right now, he's Kev or Kevin to me. I know he was K-Mart in college.

If Flash is gone, maybe we could call him Streak?;)

I guess I never liked Kmart because it was already used and the store makes me think of old ladies in stretch pants. And I was tired of first-letter-first-syllablle 3 years ago. It should be up to Kevin anyway, seems like someone should ask the poor kid what he wants to be called before they start laying Zanesville Zephyr on him. Someone from say, the Sacramento Bee. :)

I hope its not Special K either though because that makes me think of the special bus. This is like naming a child here, you wouldn't want the other kids to make fun of him. Nope, I'm going to just wait and see what he decides to go with.

Besides, if he keeps focussed on basketball like he has been, his next big star-level shoe contract will come complete with people to do that marketing stuff for him, so problem solved. :D

Although the media guide says he wears Nike, apparently recent pictures say otherwise. There's another thread going that identifies his shoes as Air Jordans.

i'm fairly certain the jordan brand is a subsidiary of nike.

edit: here we go...

"The Air Jordan is a brand of Nike basketball shoes named after Michael Jordan. Jordan signed the deal with Nike in 1984. In 1987, Nike introduced a logo depicting Jordan doing a slam dunk. The shoes sold well from the start, and remain lucrative for Jordan and Nike."

Yeah, I think the whole nickname thing is kinda stupid, unless it is very original. That being said...I've been calling Kevin 'Clutch-Mart' for awhile now...for what it's worth.:D
