late night roll call

You're welcome, as always, for the PBP. The next full moon isn't until Nov. 5. Maybe it's the change in weather?

It's really quiet in this part of the woods. Almost too quiet. What my great-grandmother used to call "earthquake weather" only I don't recall her ever saying it at night.

I don't ever remember having "earthquake weather" at night either....but I do think it's real, but maybe not up north. There was a time in 1994 when we were having earthquakes so often...we got pretty good at guessing the richter scale reading before we would turn on the news.:p

It must be the weather change - very odd - we took a very unusually large number of people in for 72 hour holds for mental evaluations... and a lot of arrests for drugs & drink - two even called and ASKED us to arrest them!
Hrm. You're right. That does sound a little bizarre.

Seen any glowing things falling from the sky into the forest? Did the officers check the basements for pods? Is there a strange fog eminating down the mountainside?

In case you haven't noticed, I love grade B sci-fi flicks from the 50s.

;)

Reminds me of a funny - but true - story.

One of my cousins lives very near the San Andreas fault. Because of that, her family is used to slight rumbles, jolts, etc. at odd hours. So, one night when she was awakened by a rumbling jolt, she looked up, saw that her hanging lamp was swaying, and figured it was simply a mild quake.

It wasn't until the next morning, when she got up to go to work, that she found the neighbor's car...halfway into her living room. It wasn't an earthquake. It was the neighbor's teenage son, coming home stoned, and missing his driveway by about 20 yards.

Hi late nighters! Just wanted to check in. Another late night homework night for this Kingsfans...

I am writing a 10 page paper on The Sixth Sense- it is a very interesting film. There are a lot of really neat things about it that I have learned from doing research on it. This is actually a paper I don't mind writing so much. Of course, I would have got to work earlier if I didn't have to watch the Kings game first ;)

WOW - that would be quite the wake up!
Actually one of my guys did see a falling star... maybe that was it.
Jeepers - now they are out w/guys with empty gun holster?! What the heck is going on??? Martians have landed maybe??

One of my favorite movies, and in good part because of the great job Haley Joel does. I actually went back and watched it after the first time just to see if Shymalan had played "fair" with the storyline. You know, did Bruce Willis do things that he couldn't have done, considering his "condition" and all? ;)

They were scrupulously fair. And it was very interesting to see how cleverly they had worked the plot to make sure of it.

Good luck on the paper!

Hrm...

I was listening to the scanner late one night in Oroville. An elderly woman called in to report a suspicion person outside her back window. It was summer and most people in Oroville open everything up at night to try and catch any hint of a breeze.

Anyway, dispatch sent a car to investigate. In the meantime, they kept the woman on the phone and relayed information. She reported that he had left her back yard, and was currently moving about to the front of her house.

Dispatch relayed the information again and the responding unit said they were about two minutes away.

Then, the woman told the dispatcher the man was squatting down, CHEWING ON her prize roses!!

The dispatcher was quiet for a moment, and passed on that bit of info.

Back on the radio came the question:

"Do we have a description of the suspect?"

Dispatcher: "Well, off-hand, I'd say if you see someone chewing on a rose bush, it's probably our perp."

Actually he was a familiar face to the Oroville police dept. One of the perpetual speed freaks they dealt with. He'd get locked up, get straight, then as soon as he got out of jail, head for his old cronies and start the vicious cycle all over again.

Pretty sad - I think that's what my guys are dealing w/now - group of tweakers - had to call out a dog unit for a search - I wouldn't think a dog could sniff a gun out - what do I know though?

Good gravy! Now they have arrested someone but didn't tell me who or why
- I have no idea what they are doing - I wish they gave dispatchers crystal balls!

That story reminds me of something that happened when I was in college. I had to take a make up test before class 1 night (for a night class)..me and another girl. While we were waiting for the teacher, we saw a streaker running through the campus. We called security and by the time he showed up, of course, the streaker was gone. He asked me for a description...."Ummmm...he wasn't wearing any clothes...that's about all I can say." Doh!

Thanks VF! :D

I know what you mean about being able to watch it the second time and pay attention to the storyline- it does work down to every last detail.

The paper is almost done, just putting on the finishing touches...

How are all the late nighters doing tonight?

It's only 10:36...I'm heading to bed early tonight. I flew home tonight and my ears are still plugged..they don't pop when descending...lots of pain. Plus, while I was down at my friend's house...one of her cats, actually one that we got while roommates...had to be put down today before she took me to the airport. It was sad, but we were both glad that it happened while I was down there. He was 16 and had a long , happy life....still hard though. Anyways...my eyes hurt so I'll be turning in soon.

Goodnight all.

I'm sorry to hear about the kitty, but glad you could be there. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

sorry about the cat :(

About your ears... I have the same problem and it is the worst pain ever. Have you tried chewing gum? I have found that helps me a little bit. Also, chewing ice helps me for some reason- try that. I ask for a cup of ice when they take drink orders. There are also some medicines you can take prior to getting on the plane that can help it a little bit.

KMG23..I have tried everything for my ears...chewing gum, drinking water, using a decongestant nasal spray and tablet, special earplugs that are supposed to help, but don't. After all these years..I just tough it out. The trouble is that it takes about 3-4 days for my hearing to get back to normal..and by then it's time to get back on the plane!

I'm not back on my weird late night schedule yet, so I'll be heading off to bed soon.
Oooops..gotta put the trash out.
