I don't think Ron Artest has a record outside of the Detroit Brawl.
Do not know -- but a long record of out of control incidents and I seem to recall an admitted drinking problem back there at one point with him saying he was going to quit drinking (of course he says all kinds of things).

While Ron doesn't have a history of drug/alcohol related issues, he does have a plethora of issues.

His mouth and actions haven't always been, how shall we say, "professional" in the past. It's how he got a rep as being a loose cannon.

It's one of the reasons I fear for our season at this point. I want to erase the chalkboard for him and give him that "clean-slate", but I'm hesitant to do that.

Dear Muss-
Friends don't let friends drive drunk. Take the Limo next time........or call a cab, or make Amunsdon drive, he looks too young to drink. Thanks.
He may look too young but he's 23 years old. Still have him drive anyway ;)

Still wonder what the Maloofs would do. If it were Ron in this case, the media would say "We told you so". His reputation warrants that alone. It's just sad!

I agree it is a stupid thing to do and definately a bad bad judgement on his part, but it is not something he should have to lose his job over.

Thank God he didn't injure or even worse kill somebody.

Here in Illinois first time offenders get a slap on the wrist. They get court supervision for one year if they plead guilty and if they behave for a year it doesn't go as a conviction on their record (and it stays of of public record as well).

He should use better judgement (or better yet not drink at all if he cannot make a right judgement when he does).

I was just thinking about it - there is a pretty good chance he might have been a super-beligerant jerk or been more over-the-top than they reported.

Why?

Typically, home-town cops let home-town sports figures slide because busting them looks bad for the team, the player and worst of all - the city. They'll punish them privately or give them harsh admonishments, but not artrest them. It's always bad ju-ju to have a home-town figure get arrested.

Can you say "wow?" Totally unexpected.

I think the Maloofs HAVE to do something. If it were a player something would be done, I don't see why the coaches should be exempt from any team sanction if the League doesn't do so themselves.

OK. We can not reduce this to a "it could be worst" scenario. Because if this were Ron Artest, YA'LL WOULD BE SCREAMING FROM THE ROOFTOPS TO TRADE THIS LOSER.

I am looking forward to see where this goes on this board. Because I have a feeling that this is going to be a classic sociology case of "double standards".

No i don't think so. This is a non issue for me. As long as nobody got hurt i could care less about it. In fact i liked C-Webb more when i found out he was smoking. lol It was probably some Rick Adelman loving cop that wanted to has his 15 min by getting back at the organization.

Wow just Wow

Hey I understand why he was out , New Head Coach, First Game at Home and Win too. Single Guy, Friday Night. I really hope this is not the norm for Muss, hoping it was just staff or friends taking him out on first Game night celebration. Im sure lots of people were slapping him on the Back buying him drinks.

But STILL!!! If he was out drinking from 11-2am after the Game, In a 3 hour period DUI charts indicate it would take 6 Drinks.

http://www.dui.com/alcohol_drugs/how_much_alcohol.html

Hell Im a much bigger guy (in weight anyways :) ) and I know better to try driving after 1-2 Beers.

I hope that this is a one time stupid mistake, and Muss will hopefully learn his lesson bigtime and get a safe ride home next time.

Hey we can always set up a Raffle Bowl at the Designated Driver table at the Kings Games. Winner gets to Drive Muss Home!!!

You're beginning to cross the line into flat out bad taste. DUI is a deadly serious business, as any of the thousands of families who lose husbands, wives, and children to it every year will attest to.

Some U.S. stats (unconfrimed):
250,000 people have died in alcohol related accidents in the past 10 years.
Presently 25,000 people are killed each year in alcohol related accidents.
500 people are killed each week in alcohol related accidents.
71 people are killed each day in alcohol related accidents.
One American life is lost every 20 minutes in alcohol related auto crashes
Every year, 708,000 persons are injured in alcohol related crashes; 74, 000 of those people suffer serious injuries.
About 2,000 people are hurt each day in alcohol related accidents.
Two million alcohol impaired driving collisions occur each year.

By comparison only 16,137 people were murdered in the U.S. in 2004.

Its not a shrugging matter.

I think if Ron had done this, it would have definitely been a big issue, which I think should be the case anyhow. Becasue you can forgive a person one or twice, but if he keeps on doing those kind of things, it shows that its some he isn't learning about his mistakes.

Anyways not a good thing for a coach. I hope it never happens again.

Ok, do they list people as arrested if they throw them in the drunk tank for the night? several of those people were arrested last night and let go this morning from the looks of it.

Are you suggesting that he had a "Mel Gibson" moment?

I'm not much into the whole political/emotional crap on an NBA message board, but I have to say ... yeah, what the heck were you thinking Entity?

What you said was rude, man. Have some respect. Lots of people lose loved ones because of drunk driving.

clearly nobody ever makes mistakes on this board.
This was a bad mistake (assuming it's all true, of course)...and I think it's completely appropriate for us to be critical of it, no matter how many mistakes we've made ourselves. Let's not sugar-coat things. DUI's are BAD by anyone's standards.

yes thats true..but everybody is freaking out like he just strangled some babies or something.

the guy made a big mistake and i guarantee he will be adressing the media and apologizing. I cant even believe there are people on here talking about him getting fired.

I agree that Muss will most likely do the stand-up thing and address it in public. And I definitely would not talk about firing anyone at this point. We have absolutely NO details.

I've always thought that people were less forgiving toward bad behavior from sports players than others, including sports managers and owners. Maybe this is because players are "role models" for kids. Perhaps it's because players have a long history of irresponsible and dangerour behavior.

I expect that if Muss does a good job of publically asking for forgivness, he can keep his job. Who knows, maybe he can even become President of the U.S.? ;)

The list on the sherrifs website is for both people arrested and people "taken into custody (but not yet formally booked, arrested)"

Ch 31 reported him being arrested at 3:10 am and released shortly after 7 am.

Fire him for this if it is a first time offense? no way, now if this had been his third or fourth offense yes, but no way especially if he was barely over the legal limit. It was an honest mistake, a dumb mistake but an honest one and I think the Maloofs will punish him some way in terms of a fine or something. Muss will also do the stand up thing and come out and address it because that is the kind of guy he is.
