What crap. If Bonzi goes anywhere for less I'll be P.O.'d! Stay here for less! WTF!

I have a feeling that the waters have been poisoned here so that him coming back is no longer a real possibility. And him coming back on a cheap contract he is unhappy about might be...unfortunate. Bonzi was tremendous for us last year, but there is still history there, and history says that once the feel good momentum is gone, once there is poison in them waters, you have to watch out.

There would be irony there in that Barry was the guy we should have gone after several years ago when he was a FA -- would have been perfect for the old Princeton. But not sure we were even in the running. And now he would join our cast of random thousands in the world's most crowded backcourt whiel simultaneously letting the team that vanquished us int eh playoffs pull the ultimate bamboozle -- stealing our best player from that series for their own. Suffice it to say the next time we met them might not be pretty.

Nonetheless, that sounds like it might have been jsut speculation above? Its phrased as a question.

We'd have to deal Garcia for a big man if we want Barry to fit in. Otherwise, Barry will not be a King.

Until I see it reported more, and from more legit places - I'm not buying it.

I have a good feeling Bonzi will sign somewhere else for relatively cheap for one year, and giv it another shot next season...

This would be a terrible decision for Bonzi. Unless the Kings S&T him to another team for a "cheap one year," he'll lose his Bird Rights and have very few options next season, besides the MLE which he could probably still get right now.

I heard on Sierra Central Sports Roundtable on CSN that Bonzi asked for 13 million a year!!!

I wonder if that is anywhere close to being true. If so those negotiations probably broke off as soon and Petrie slammed down the reciever.

13 million a year? That is absolutely ridiculous.
If you look at what Peja got after last season and not really even playing in the PO and Bonzi's performance, why is it so unreasonable from Bonzi's point of view?

Not saying I wouldn't laugh at that demand too, but you have to admit he showed up when it was most important....

That's what I was thinking when I first heard it. But the Kings would have been bidding against themselves.

The way the situation played out I can see the actual numbers possibly being close because the real negotiating period was so short. We just didn't hear about it until way after the fact. You knew they had to be WAY apart. Not this far though.

I would think the contract would be well deserved if he was a 26 and 12 player, but in reality he is a 13 and 6 player.

How bout S&T Bonzi to Denver for Kenyon Martin and a future pick?

It's a good idea but you're going to get flamed for mentioning it...

Yeah it would put us over the lux tax so I don't think he'll be signed and traded at all.

I'd like Bonzi(S&T for 9mill/year)+Corliss/Potapenko/Thomas for Kenyon+2 first round picks though.

I'd be cool with that, actually. Even if it's just 1 R1 pick.

We'd still have SAR, a FA big hopefully for the LLE, Justin Williams, Brad, Amundson.

If that's anywhere close to true, then it would go a long way towards explaining those mysterious rumors of "clauses" in his contract, including the one about his weight.

And it would also explain why there hasn't been a line of suitors with bouquets of flowers lining up to court him.

At this point, looking at the viable options.... I wouldn't mind Kenyon Martin at all. Our rebounding would still be atrocious though. But KMart is a good man defender.

Interesting comments from toronto star:

Maybe Bonzi will take notice of Harrington and fire his agent too

WELL, WELL, WELLS: Well, I think we've found the biggest losers of the free agent season.

Bonzi Wells and Al Harrington.

Way back in early July, they were among the top five guys on the market, here we are in August and they still don't have deals. Harrington's probably going to end up back in Indiana but Wells?

Well, it doesn't seem like teams are breaking down the doors trying to get him. Sacramento gave his money to John Salmons, for goodness sake. Guess that one good playoff series last spring wasn't enough to offset years of knuckleheadedness. (That may not be a real word, but you get my drift).

Latest talk was Wells to Denver. Great. George Karl has to deal with Kenyon Martin and now he might get Wells? Lucky fella.

Bonzi sure didn't think about turning down the King's offer did he? This sure isn't helping his "bad boy" image. I say we sign him for 2M or so if he takes it and then see what can be done next year to a more realistic contract and him coming off the bench. He still have value and should be getting pretty desperate due to the situation he is in. He sure played his poker hand wrong, him and/or his agent which should be fired regardless.

Grant reported the other day that the exact dollar amount was $38 mill over 5 years and because of Peja's contract this year and Cat's last year Bonzi thought that he deserved somewhere between $40-$50 mill over 5 years.

Why couldn't we just have paid him $40-42M for 5 years and everyone is happy? Now Bonzi is unhappy because he will have to play for less than the MLE, we are unhappy because we most likely let Bonzi walk for nothing, and Bonzi's agent is unhappy because he doesn't get his big commission and is might be out of a job representing Bonzi. And us Kings fans are unhappy because we waited every second for some good news and then find out Bonzi isn't going to sign with us and instead we pay a guy by the name of John Salmons 5yr/$25M.

This offseason sucks!!! Wow former Kings are sure seeing greener pastures, especially are friend Peja cha ching :) No wonder why we are having trouble resigning our FAs.

We don't know whether or not 5/40-42 would've gotten it done. Grant assumes he wanted 40-50, but that could mean he really was holding out for 45+.

I honestly don't care though. I hold Bonzi and his agent 99% responsible. The fact of the matter is that if it was 5/36-38 or whatever, its a lot more than he's going to get now, and Bonzi and his agent were basically holding out for the Kings to bid against themselves. It was a stupid move by them and its hurt the team. Screw them.

Just a thought. The most Bonzi can get is the mid level excemption. What if Petrie talks the Maloffs into a one year deal and rescues Bonzi with a 8 mil deal. Gives us another year of Bonzi and maybe at the end of the year he resigns with us or at the least he has had another year to improve his value around the league. Not going to happen, but it would be nice.
