2006 Vegas Summer League (merged)

The first game of any summer league is virtually a throw away. Everyone is hyped up, over excited and borderline out of control. However, the feedback on Williams and Amundson was amazing for a first game. Amundson in particular playing in front of a true "home crowd". I'll be there tomorrow night and see how it settles out. Pending wireless access in the arena..... who knows what can be done.

So do you guys think 6-7 blocks and 10 rebs in around 22 minutes is enough to get Justin Williams noticed?

Or is Petrie waiting for a 10 block 15 rebound game to sign him?

...How did this guy manage to not get drafted?

I noticed his rebounds from the box score...and if he got 6 swats like everyone's saying that unbelievable. Hope we sign this kid and throw him out there to help the frontline.

hammystyle, I don't have any problem with you being optimistic or excited in this or any other thread; what I have a slight beef with is you trying to tell people that they can't be pessimistic.
It's cool, I get it. I was basically ribbing Sac.Kings, because his comment was that we're still presently screwed when it comes to our interior defense. Obviously it would be incredibly optimistic to expect an undrafted rookie to
make an impact this year based on a halftime report from a summer league game. So making the comment there after people were hyping up Williams' performance struck me as just a bit too pessimistic. I should have thrown in a smiley face.

Mostly I am just stoked that Williams is on the squad and balling.

Oh, I'm keeping it real. The guy I was hoping the Kings would get via a trade into the 2nd round or UDFA is now officially on the Kings Summer League Team swatting shots and grabbing boards against current and future NBAers. Wouldn't this be the thread to voice my excitement about that?

You are not the only one. I was actually wanting the Kings to draft him in the first round because of us not having a 2nd round pick to spend on him. :p Or trade down to maybe draft him.
Think of it this way. If Williams impresses in summercamp than we know he can step his game up against better opponenets than the mountain west (that which conf he was in?)

I am actually happy we got him, and Douby. I was a bit suprised with Douby, but I have watched some tape on him. He seems like a BJ clone.

What would be most interesting is not signing Justin Williams and going for Louis Amundson :D
That's not entirely impossible given our fascination with Amundson. BUt hopefully not. In any case Louis did well too, he's jsut nto a shotblocker.

The caution is always just that summer league just barely translates at all to the NBA. Guys can do very well there and still be a scrub in the actual NBA. But at least doing well there should if nothing else entitle them to a camp invite and a real shot.

The competition there is better than the conference Williams came from, and he still impressed. I really do hope this guy makes the team.

Well thats the deal with Summer league isn't it? If a guy does well he is still a question mark, but if he looks bad you KNOW he is not NBA material. A question mark is NOT a bad thing it just is wat it is and for the small investment you have to give the guy a try in the show. If he pans out great if not... oh well no big loss. I really DO like the idea of having young hungey guys on the bench dying to get a chance to get on the court and show their stuff. Good for them, good for the starters and primary becners to feel the presure.

You know who supposedly looked good according to the Rockets board? Novack!! This was another guy I was wanting to get. He has a real nice touch to his shot. He had 21 points, 22, and 20 points in three games so far. But of course he plays like Peja and he's not rebounding.

Navak had one problem. Could be the reason he went undrafted. He has a great shot and decent length but has the strength of a towel boy.
