Vegas Summer League team

The draft is a week away, July 1 (start talking to FA's) 3 days later and the start to the Vegas Summer League looming on Thursday July 6. So time to start thinking about who will be on the Kings roster.

We know Ronnie Price and Cisco for sure, and the first round draft choice likely. But what big's and PG's will we see? And shooter-scorers from downtown in? Probably a few that worked out with Kings but hard to know beyond that. In past years they have not released the roster until the week before but that is next week. Hmmmm

and, of course, Kevin.
There is a young man on Kevin's SPDL team that got a look from the Kings as well, but his name currently escapes me. Depending on how that goes, he could be there as well (not that that info does anyone any good until I remember his name;) )

Kevin may go but he was not on the definite list a week ago.

Last 2 years I sat next to Sam Amick several times doing stories. I was suprised how young he is, hardly out of his 20's then I think.

I get to Las Vegas Fri, 7-Jul to see Kings team 2nd game. The first game of any summer league is not really worth it. A bunch of spinning tops all wound too tight going every which way. When Kevin was drafted, in his first summer league game he ran faster down the court than his own dribble twice in the first quarter. That IS funny, to see a guy at full speed and the ball 1/2 step behind him! Anyway will report the Friday and Sunday Kings game and depending on wireless access while viewing game maybe even some sorta real-time updates.

Cisco was on 1140 earlier this afternoon. He joked that he and Kevin told Musselman that they were going to take all the shots in the Vegas league. So I gather Kevin is going to play again.

I am sure Price will play on the team as well... I would also guess Hart will be there.
Price, definitely. Not sure about Hart though. He's kind of old and established in his mediocrity at this point to be playing in a rookie/free agent rec league. Not much to gain.

Yeah but for Heart playing in summer leage might be his only chance to hold his slot in the rotation... let us all hope you are right and he stays home.

So is Martin playing in summer league for sure or is it us hoping he would

Just imagine the fun Martin, Garcia, Price and Douby would have out there. Anyone else remember Cisco's assits to Kevin for an alley-oop from the sideline :D

I suspect Douby and Price would be asked to run the team. If they can show some signs of play making ability, then I suspect we could go into the season with them as Bibby's back up. If they don't show much in terms of running a team, then I suspect Petrie might get a back up PG through either trades of FA.

Martin should be there.

We take this break from the summertime coaching search to offer this: Summer league should be more interesting this time around.

From July 6-14, the youngest Kings and a host of fill-in players in Kings jerseys will be in Las Vegas for the annual summer league. But whereas last year's Kings' contract-player contingent consisted of only Kevin Martin and Francisco García, this year's team will have five contract players.

Martin, whose 19.4 points per game last year ranked him third in the summer league, will return for his third stint. García will make his second trip.

They'll be joined by Ronnie Price, Sergei Monia and the Kings' first selection of the June 28 draft.

Second-year point guard Price won an invitation to Kings training camp last October despite being injured for all but two of the Kings' five summer-league games. This time, he could be trying to impress enough to battle for eventual playing time with Jason Hart, who has exercised the player option on his contract for the 2006-07 season.

Monia -- the 23-year-old, 6-foot-8 swingman who played a total of seven minutes after he was traded to the Kings in late February -- will make his first trip. It will be a welcome change of pace for Monia, who spent much of the past few months playing one-on-one against center Vitaly Potapenko.

Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie is as eager as some of his players. He said he's looking forward to seeing Price and Monia, in particular.

"I think there's a strong belief here that Ronnie can play, but he can't prove it yet," Petrie said last week. "It's going to be great to watch him play in summer league. … (And) summer league will be big for (Monia), give us a better chance to watch him compete in a game situation."

The same goes for García, who will look to avoid any setbacks such as the March 1 ankle injury that marred much of his rookie season.

"It's really unfortunate that he got hurt when he did, the way he did," Petrie said. "It seemed like he had just started to relax, to get a feel for how he should play and all that stuff. And he never really got going again after that. It's obvious he's a multiskilled guy and a competitive player. He does a lot of things."

Thing is, Kevin will be there, but really...is that a really great thing now? We know what he can do. I'm sure he will go score 20 in the summer league again. But all of a sudden we have at least 3 young guards, Cisco, Douby, and Price, and 1 SF (Monia) who could use those minutes more than Kevin could so we could see what they can do. Relatively speaking, Kevin is already established.

I think this guy will be there also: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/players/38251

As reported by AP:
Casper, Wyo. — Although former University of Wyoming standout Justin Williams wasn’t picked in Wednesday’s NBA draft, his agent says he will get a chance to play professional ball with the Sacramento Kings.

Darren White, Williams’ agent, told the Casper Star-Tribune on Thursday that Williams will play in the NBA’s Toshiba Vegas Summer League with the Kings.

Kings coach Eric Musselman talked with White and Williams near the end of Wednesday’s draft. Musselman said that Williams’ defense could be valuable to the Sacramento team.

“We talked with coach Musselman, and he spoke very highly of (Williams),” White said.

Teams commonly send rookies to the Summer League to gain experience and prove they deserve a place on the team. Williams is scheduled to play his first Summer League game July 6 with the Kings in Las Vegas

I tend to agree with this. Players like Price, Douby, Garcia and Monya could do with more minutes than Kevin who is already somewhat established.

However, I would still rather he play summer league with our coaching staff so he can keep on developing than play pick up games in some below average "competition" where the gap between him and the other player is monsterous. At least thing way he could have some sort of decent competition.

Didn't Dwight Howard play in last year's summer league as well

Man, I'll be in LV the day we play the the TWolves, but I have 7pm tickets to Blueman Group. Should be interesting to see the Randy Foye on the floor as well. Who knows maybe GP and McHale will finally consemate the Garnett trade! :D

dam so martin played in Ohio then back here in SAC Town and now in the Summer league??? Dam he must be in shape

In between Ohio and Sac, he went to Florida and worked out with his old coach. He never takes it easy:eek:
And to the comments on why he is playing, it was a mutual decision (Petrie and he) Maybe they want to see what the young guns are capable of playing together.
