Amick: De’Aaron Fox requests trade

It’s unfortunate it’s come to this but I think Malik has established that he can be the lead guard on this team.

19-7 since becoming a starter. 23-8 in 2025 which I think is more in the ball park of what we can expect on average if you open up more shots.

Plus, Monk and Domas have the best connection on the team.

And his contract is favorable.

Fox and Monk in the starting lineup seems like it should make sense because they were in the starting lineup on their college team and they’re the Kentucky Connection…but it really is just Fox and Tyrese all over again. Not sustainable if you’re going to maximize their respective ability.

And Fox numbers since Monk entered the starting lineup are similar to what they were in 21-22 before they moved Tyrese and then he averaged about 30ppg the rest of the season. His stretch of games before last night was almost identical to how he looked in the first half of the 21-22 season.

So I think the Kings are in good position to move Fox and possibly not lose ground or become more dynamic. It doesn’t help if he’s being choosy about where he goes though.

Domas is the man. He's proven to be at least as able to be the player you build around from here on. He needs defense and athletic ability. Monte... go.
I mean yeah. We keep saying we wouldn't have a 1A... but

21 PPG
14.6 RPG
6.5 APG
48.1% 3
67.8% TS
21.9% USG

I mean, how is that not a #1 option? And Domas is the guy you visibly "feel" when he's not on the floor. The team craters. He took one of his big weaknesses of shooting and has turned into one of the best weapons in the NBA.

Had multiple years to address that issue and keep Fox but no
Eh.

If you go back to the start of the '21-'22 season, our legitimate assets were Fox and Hali. That's it. Barnes was a passable complementary player, We all know what Hield was, and Davion obviously didn't pan out. We dealt from those assets to address the black hole at Center. We subsequently drafted Murray to help address the wing and traded for Huerter to help address the wing. Later we did a S&T for DeRozan to help address the wing.

But it's not like we had all these amazing assets to help us do it. We had the #4 pick, we used it on Murray - that's about as good as we could do. The #20 the next year was of no help, the #13 pick last year wasn't going to be of any help for a wing. How were we going to get that amazing wing without trading Fox?

Keon-Carter-Keegan-Sochan is A LOT of defense. The bet is how high a ceiling Monk can be as "the man" and the lead ball-handler, but him-DDR-Domas with the above 4 defensively makes a ton of sense on paper.
Atlanta on a big losing streak right now so if you get their pick from the Spurs in a Fox trade, you have a chance to get that 1A guy in the draft lotto in the summer too.(Accidentally getting the number one pick and drafting Flagg FTW)

Fox isn’t our best player, it’s Domas. Fox is a great player and can be unbelievably great when he wants to be. But therein lies some frustration amongst fans. It’s that when he wants to be part, it just doesn’t happen consistently.

Monk isn’t quite the player Fox is, but he’s a better shooter and a better playmaker. He fits better and is certainly a capable guard. A lot hinges on what we get in return. It should be a haul. He’s one of the best point guards in the league overall and we need to take advantage of that.
That's how I feel about Domas and Monk, as well. Plus, Keegan, they are now our core.
A haul is what we need to fill the void. If a trade is picks-heavy, then we can flip into assets easily.

People really have been forgetting DeMar lately. He's literally the Fox replacement in the interim. Get picks and wait and see. If the team w/o Fox doesn't produce oh well. You now have literally two paths to follow. Rebuild or win now.

Maybe we aren't able to trade Fox, we make a run to the playoffs and the vibes get good again, only for Fox to want to stay? Eh, just dreaming.
Nah, this was always the way. Just get it over with before you damage yourself any further. Monte has a GREAT opportunity now to make sure there are no real true apocalyptic vibes.

I can't really be upset at Fox for requesting a trade. He spent 8 years here and was our lone bright spot on a team with a lot of dark days. He was monumental in bringing the Kings out of the gutter and finally making the playoffs.

Looking at the reasons for Fox wanting out, I think it just comes down to personal preference and happiness. We started off the season poorly, but we've played great after firing Brown. However, this bounce back still wasn't enough for Fox to decide he wants to remain here long-term. It sounds like he's just ready for a new basketball chapter elsewhere. If you're the Kings, just get the best offer available. I think we have to see how far we can go without Fox being our #1 guy.

I hope fans don't send hate towards Fox. He's given a lot to this city, and while I would've loved to see him retire a King, we'll be alright without him

I've given up on it. I 100% have been against any Fox trading, especially with our current streak going. But that ship has sailed, all the dirty laundry is aired out now and it's looking more and more this has been in the pipeline for the entire season.

My take at this point is grab the SAS offer, get Castle/Sochan/however many FRP and just be done with it here at the deadline and we can move forward in a direction. Keeping Fox now past the deadline just keeps us in limbo for another 7 months and can't be good for the locker room and it's not good for the franchise because you're directionless that entire time.

(Of course assuming all these reports that the SAS is the only team he'll re-up with and no other teams are offering comparable value)

That is why San Antonio is a poor choice of trading partner. They do not have any forwards of comparable quality to De'Aaron Fox.
That's why I've proposed you take Castle and Sochan plus as many picks as you can get. Starting with ATLs picks, but I'm asking for 6. Need 3 or 4 minimum though. Then you use one or two of those to get Cam and Sharpe for Huerter and Lyles (sorry but gotta get rid of all things Klutch so Trey gotta go). You've improved positions 3-5, have a long term PG prospect, and hopefully you've got ATL's pick in this draft to further fill need. Plus you open up time for Keon and Devin.

You are definitely losing talent today but you are filling up the rest of the roster adding defense, shooting and a backup 5, picks and Castle in 3-5 years is either out of the league or an emerging star.

I won't hate him but he hired Klutch to get out of Sacramento.

They get the picks that Nets want for Cam Johnson.

I do 't like Cam as he defends for crap, but there you go.
I am not high on Cam, with Sharpe I am feeling better, without Fox I also think it makes sense to add one offense only piece. And if we trade some fringe pick we get out of the deal while getting ATLs good picks, who cares?

Fox hired Rich Paul in 2022. Trying to remember right now, but I don't think he's ever tried to force out before. I think his hesitancy to sign a long-term extension has always been him wanting to play up to All-NBA standards to get more money, but that hasn't happened the last 2 years. That's probably played a part in him wanting to leave, especially if he's not going to reap the extra cash benefits
