If he can just be Jimmy G with mobility and the ability to avoid the terrible picks in big games, I'll be perfectly happy with him. I don't think he can do what the top tier QBs can do but he sure does look good in Shanny's offense. I'm still not completely sold on him but I think we'll have a good idea after the first half of the season how things are going to go for him in the future. So far in preseason he's done everything you'd want him to do.

The Lance trade was bad but the Lynch/Shanahan ability to evaluate running backs irks me just as much. They really need to stop wasting 3rd round picks on RBs. Davis-Price and Sermon are basically the same player. That's two 3rd round picks in two years and neither guy looks as good as the later round guys or guys off the street. Mason had that awful fumble on the goal line but he's looked head and shoulders better than any other high round RB draft pick. Mitchell was gold in the 6th round but unfortunately he's injury prone. They can get better talent off the scrap heap each year at that position than they can get in the 3rd round.
Brock may not be one of those top tier tools freak of nature QBs like Mahomes or Herbert or Allen but would you settle for Drew Brees?

Nightmare scenario potentially … there’s rumblings the Niners might have to trade Bosa because of a breakdown in negotiations.

And if this is true, Lynch has to go.

I mean, no excuse to not just pay him. We have the cheapest possible starting QB in football, so can't even use the excuse we're paying $30+mil and don't have the salary.

I get nickel and diming certain players, but Bosa is a guy you write a blank check for. He's irreplaceable and severely damages our super bowl run if he's not out there. You make cuts elsewhere on your roster, not at possibly the most impactful player in the NFL that's not a QB.

I would absolutely watch the hell out of this show with these exact members sans Skip Worthless
I never followed it that closely, but my understanding is that Shannon left in part because Skip dominated the show, had final say on topics, cut him off too often etc. If so, the fact that now he's almost on afterthought on his own show with these big personalities is hilarious.

Feels like this is going to be taken in exactly the right context lol
Jimmy got the Niners to the NFC Championship and Superbowl the two seasons he managed to play most of the year. Unfortunately he wasn't present for huge chunks of the other three.
The one part of this which was a bit eyebrow raising for me was his last quote-- "We thought he'd be ready in two years, he wasn't. And now we have a different younger quarterback." That means Coach Shanahan put him on the field as the starter over Jimmy G. last season even though he himself didn't feel he was ready for the job? Also, didn't we hear all off-season a year ago that the Niners were aggressively shopping Jimmy G. before the season started? So not only was going to roll with the guy he didn't fully trust yet but he was also planning to remove a reasonable backup plan from the roster? That's a surprising admission to make after the fact though I guess the Trey Lance trade already told us that, he was just spelling it out.

Maybe he's talking big picture with the two years? I don't know, I never liked the Lance pick, at least not with the trade component. I was watching Bill Simmons talk to a draft guy who pointed out that Lance was part of the covid mystery class, I think this was a bigger issue with basketball but especially when you reach for a FCS for a guy it's a real headscratcher to only have one year of Freshman tape.

I would say kudos to them for moving on as quickly as they did. would be easy to try to salvage a full season out of your investment but after Brock's performance last year you just move on.

Purdy has arm fatigue and he's "De-loading" this week. Im telling you guys, they rushed him back. The niners are gonna have to rely on the second coming of Steve Young a lot this season and Kyle is gonna have to answer for going with Sam Friggin Darnold as our second string QB. Sam Darnold SUCKS. He sucked in college and he has sucked the entire time in the NFL. Everyone but kyle sees it.

And Trey Lance was even worse. Sam will be just as fine as Jim in this offense. Less consistent, more explosive. As long as Bosa gets signed, everything will be fine.

Sam Darnold was freaking great in college. That’s how he wound up going 3rd overall. Really not his fault the best coaching he’s had in his NFL career was the two months that Steve Wilkes was the interim coach in Carolina.

Also don’t buy the arm fatigue story. Of course he’s on a pitch count. It would be malpractice to have a guy go out there and throw a bajillion passes in practice immediately after coming back from UCL reconstruction surgery.

Each day we get closer to opening Sunday, I’m getting more and more anxious that a Bosa deal isn’t done. I wasn’t sweating preseason, thought it would happen shortly after, but we’re almost a week removed from last preseason game and 10 days from Week 1 and nothing has been signed. Get this ish done Lynch!

You thought so? I thought Darnold looked worse in preseason but it didn't look like Lance ever set himself apart. I would have stuck with Lance but I guess getting the draft pick back makes some sense. Neither guy could probably come in and limp the team into the playoffs but I would have put my money on Lance if it came down to him or Darnold.

Idk, outside of Trey’s feel-good drives against 6th stringers in the 4th quarter he was absolutely abysmal.

Wasn't Darnold just as abysmal? I don't have any stats on hand but outside of that one drive where he hit Snead in the end zone, I'm pretty sure I witnessed some of the most boring and unmemorable football I've seen since Beathard was under center. I felt like you could just fast forward through all of Darnold's drives and miss absolutely nothing while Lance at least had something going on half the time.

Darnold's decision making was much quicker than Lance. He got rid of the ball faster and didn't take a lot of stupid sacks. His style of play is also much closer to Purdy's than Lance.

And that’s the difference. Between Trey’s slower processing and athleticism that didn’t level up to the NFL, there’s just not enough there to justify keeping the experiment going. I understand another team wanting to take the chance, but I don’t think it will ever happen.

I don't disagree that his decision making was quicker but outside of one drive, basically nothing happened at all when he played during preseason except for a lot of almost INTs that probably get picked if he's playing against starters. I think if Purdy gets hurt this team is done for because the offense grinded to a halt as soon as Darnold entered each game.
