Matos down, Meckler up.

Former fun prospect Luis Gonzalez DFA’d.
Really? Matos has been ok. Valuable experience during this time. And now they are going to start the clock on another prospect in Meckler? Either go with the young guys and live with it or have a better plan in place.

He's just not ready imo. Which is fine! He's been a below average MLB hitter, which isn't the worst thing in the world for a 21 year old with very little high level minor experience. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back up in Sept

Im fine with Matos getting more seasoning. There’s a lot there. Moreso than with Schmitt. He’s still super young. Let him be closer to ready in Sept.

My other hope going forward is Ramos ABs nightly. I want to see what he actually has.

Yeah, Ramos is the guy you stick with at the MLB level and get him 150+ PA to close the season. He's 23, about to be 24, has 885 PA at the AAA level and has finally started to show real promise after he came back from injury the last month and a half or so. It's not quite put up or shut up time for him yet, but we're getting to that point with him where he's like a year or 2 away from just being considered a fringe MLB guy that bounces around from team to team and from AAA to MLB the rest of his career. He either pops in the next 12-18 months, or he's just not that guy.

Matos on the other hand has more AB's now at the MLB level than he does in AA or AAA. That's sort of insane to think about. And was still able to put up real impressive K-BB ratio and be a below average MLB hitter. He's got time to hone in on his power stroke vs AAA pitching.

Meckler, despite this being his first year of real professional ball, is actually 2 years older than Matos and like 6 months younger than Ramos. Just shows how patient you have to be with these guys you draft/sign when they're 17/18 years old. This dude has a 43 BB-39K in 294 AB's! Absolutely insane plate discipline and bat control.

I wonder if the Giants try to stretch out Walker this summer and turn him into a starter. I think he's legit good and has been so good in the opener role this year. At the very least, he's a legit arm to add to the back of the bullpen if we ever fix our rotation.

*two infield singles later*
Speed looks real good and you can tell he has a good idea of the where the strike zone is. He got really screwed on that 1st AB, which is why Kapler got thrown out on his 2nd AB.

Similar to Matos, I'm not expecting much power, but if he can be that super annoying bat control guy that draws walks and is always making contact with +speed... he'll stick up here. It's nice for the Giants to have a few prospects that actually can put some pressure with their speed. Feels like we've been the slowest team in baseball forever. I mean, Bengie Molina was our 3 hitter for like 4 years.

Good to see Matos back up and Schmitt. I’d keep Meckler up too. I’d 100% go get Luciano too.
Live with them. I’m of the opinion that they will be better quicker by playing up now. The old adage of getting them more minor league to season them doesn’t hold true as much as it used to. These guys wrecked AA and AAA. Nothing left but to learn how to be able to do it at the pro level. What Meckler is seeing, as pointed out by our color guy yesterday…was it Javier Lopez?, is that the pro guys can throw off-speed at any count. Meckler has a very good swing, he’s going to be fine.
It’s not the FBs. All 4 of these guys can hold their own on FBs but pro pitchers are different when it comes to the full boat of pitches.

Luciano is hurt again. Might keep him out for the year.

Kyle Harrison on Tuesday!
Honestly, it's been a mostly fun season with all the young guys coming up. I didn't really expect playoffs and I think we're actually building a real base for a long-term winner. This squad would look reaaaall good with an Ohtani in the middle of the young guys and the quality vets like Wade/Davis/Flores/Thairo

The 107 team was cool, but a bunch of old dudes just isn't all that exciting over a long stretch. And it feels like the Giants have just been flat old for like 7 years.

Billy Beane stumbling into the next great bombs-away infielder a season after giving away Matt Olson and Matt Chapman in the midsts of possibly the worst season in professional baseball history is somehow the most Billy Beane thing ever….

Dude is hitting dingers like a Bash Bro and he’s not even on roids
Has to be beyond annoying this dude is just on a clock in an A's uniform.

The A’s turned a Chapman/Semien/Jed Lowrie/Olson infield into like one postseason appearance and a handful of B-/C+ prospects so I’m honestly just happy Gelof’s still got like three seasons before John Fisher panics about having to pay him and makes Beane and Forst give him away to the Braves for their 7th best prospect and two relievers.

What an absurd infield. Chapman-Olson-Semien is a legit all-star infield.
