Unless Lyles is slotted in to be the backup C, you let him go. The bar in the West might be too high to justify that kind of peripheral move. Don't get into another Holmes situation until at least Holmes is off the books.
I think the Kings will break into the top 2 this year. Like last year there will be a clear 1 and 2 and maybe even a 3 like this year before the rest of the rabble comes into play, all of the rest down to the play-in having close to the same record.

That could very well happen, but it won't be players 9-13 making that happen in all likelihood. It will be Fox/Sabonis/Keegan/Sasha/Monk and whoever is in that core of big minute getters. Monte has to be very careful about overvaluing players that could be in or out in terms of legit minutes. If Lyles is given that C spot I think he's immensely valuable. If he's in a role similar to last season that's a different story.

With the amount of cap room we now have the Kings could chose to be dicks to the lakers and sign Rui and make an expensive offer to Reaves that they couldn’t possible match if they wanted to. Not something I’d particular recommend but a fun option

Nets putting out 4/84 as a "comfortable match" for Cam is kind of strange. So they're out at 4/85?

I do think they may have showed their hand a bit that they're at least planning to if he does indeed walk.

Doesn't sound overly confident here.
Doesn’t help their case that they drafted two more forwards to replace him in the first round either.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Both were good picks that went around where they were slotted, but they also already have a logjam at the 3/4/5. Mikal and Clax are penciled in at the 3 and 5, DFS has 3 more years, Ben Simmons has 2 more years. If you ink Cam, is neither guy just not going to play for 2 years?

I wonder if there’s not some sort of deal where we can just take one of DFS or Royce into whatever cap space we have left after our big swing in exchange for a couple of second round picks.

Wait a sec. We have a TPE from the Richaun trade so we wouldn’t even need the cap space.

A TPE is essentially created as the difference in salary between a trade. So we just sent out Holmes salary and didn’t get anything back so we now have a TPE in the amount of Holmes salary. We can use that TPE to trade for another player without having to worry about salary matching rules. For example, if Holmes made $12 mil our TPE is $12 mil and we can use it to trade for a player making $12 mil or less.

It’s important to note that you can’t combine TPEs to make them bigger nor can you combine players to TPEs (e.g., we can’t trade our TPE & Mitchell for a player that makes more than $12 mil). You can combine picks, draft rights, etc to TPEs to get the deal done.

I believe DFS makes more than our TPE so we couldn’t use it to trade for him but O’Neale makes less than our TPE so we could legally do that trade. However, I doubt BKN would be willing to just give O’Neale to us for free so we’d have to add pick(s) to get them to accept.

I’m assuming we’ll hold on to the TPE and revisit it at the deadline. They can be handy pieces to help push a team over the edge but more importantly, they can be useful if you have an injury and need an adequate replacement without having to send out any players/salary long term.

Hollinger seems to think we want Green. I just don’t see it. GS is pot committed to this core. They would likely match our best offer. They are probably going to run it back and then maybe trade Kuminga next off season if they need another piece. Klay isnt going to have max suitors so I’d imagine it will be in his best interest to take a pay cut.

from the kings side, how does Domas feel about a Draymond signing? Does that change his free agency? We have awesome chemistry, do the antics take away from that? I’m actually not worried about the fit in terms of clogging the lane. He can hit a corner 3 and if nothing else you have to guard his passing. Iq would overcome that hurdle.

I don’t love the idea of cheering for Draymond and I don’t like watching ref complaining. I’d get over it I’m sure but not my fave

It's kind like the Kris Murray being mocked to us all the time. It works, but it's pretty lazy analysis. It's just pointing to Green's history with Brown and the Kings needing a defensive lynchpin. And just something to write/talk about as there isn't another option Green would go to outside of GS
