2023 TRADE DEADLINE MEGATHREAD

West had been a dogfight all year. Just a matter if we can continue to keep pace.

45 wins I think is the Magic number to stay above the play-in. To hold the 3 seed, I'm guessing 48-49 is needled
I'm still not totally sure that teams like the Lakers or even the Suns are going to go all out to move up the standings. I wouldn't be surprised if they're underestimating the Kings and figure once the playoffs come seeds won't matter. At least that's what Brown should be telling his players to light a fire, haha.

I think the ship’s sailed on the three seed. Just gotta avoid the play in. I need a real series. Not a chance to be bounced in the play ins.

It takes two to tango...anyone ever considered that the other sides don't want the players we're willing to give up? Can't trade if no one wants what you're offering.

Or it takes "2's" to tango, har har har. Vlade would have cleaned the F up today with his stockpile of 2nd rounders.

Both of those teams believe that they could win on the road, because of experience. They're likely thinking that they just need to get in to have a chance to make a run.

Props to Geoff Spike HM1 Jc121 who in the "what will happen at the deadline thread" guessed that we would sign a bought out player. Although we technically traded for him we didn't give anything up so I think this was the closest to the correct answer.
I am a few pages behind but won't be surprised if we sign a buyout player and let one of our expirings go early. Safe play for long term while adding depth in exchange for a guy not getting minutes.

Wow Denver finally got a decent back up for Jokic but still not enough imo for them to compete come playoffs.
Well, their issue is always going to be Jokic guarding pick and roll come playoff time. That said they were already a team with contender pieces. They have 3-4 legit scorers and a league MVP.

I wouldn't even rule it out that soon especially considering that the Nuggets have currently the 2nd best team defensive rating in the league.

That could very well happen. I don't know who is really available for buy out that we would be interested in other than maybe Noel?

I don't know, unless Jokic is just not trying at all, then they have Dirk level problems there. If not for that Dallas team I would say it impossible to make it all the way with that level of inability to guard pick and roll. Especially in a guard driven league. If not then it will take luck for them to get it done or a level of domination by Jokic rarely seen.

Yeah a bit of a let down.
Regardless out of all the Western teams moves only the Lakers did anything that concerns me. That and not being able to unload Holmes contract.

That's the thing though, there is no real long run. Once you have two max guys on your cap moves are going to get more and more difficult, especially if they intend to keep their recent lottery picks beyond their rookie contracts and/or Barnes. Once that happens you can't mostly just add pieces, you have to lose to gain.
If you draft well you can re-sign your guys and then move them. The only problem with going above the cap is signing guys with no value that you can't unload. Right now Holmes might be in that position but he's the only one. And as it stands, it won't get in the way or really factor until 2024 at which point he's suddenly an expiring and might have value.

It would be awesome if we could just rip off 6 of the next 8 not including the Houston games. That would put us 12 games over .500 and we would be sitting pretty

Yeah, the key word is move them. Also, you have to first use them well. For instance, backup Davion is worth how much? We'll see what Keegans role looks like going forward but 12 and 4 Keegan can't be a 2 or 3 year thing unless you're talking titles coming your way as a result.

He's not playing because he doesn't fit as well as Metu in the system.
Holmes is like the exact same player as Metu, except he's better at nearly everything. I don't get the narrative that Holmes doesn't fit the system. Neither player spreads the floor and both are reliant on the PnR to score points. Same guy except one has a higher IQ and is exceptionally better at perimeter defense.

I don't think Monte was shopping Davion. So we probably don't know his value. Seems a lot of teams want vet guards with playoff experience right now. So it's definitely possible in a year or two Davion gains value especially if he proves capable of defending in a playoff series. My guess is they probably focused on seeing if there was a market for the expiring contracts we have and getting in on all the picks being given out.

looking at likely waivers and buyouts, would we consider Kevin Love. I'd put him in there with Noel and Ibaka as possibly guys you might let Len go and pick up one of them for the rest of year?

Also what's up with Danny Green? Is he hurt?

Sorry, I meant monetarily, but Monte should always be guaging the value of his pieces anyway and I'm sure he is. I'm sure him getting Huerter was the result of all those other talks he had with Hawks dating back to the last season even if those other talks weren't about Huerter. In the end this is the issue with stacking PG's with lotto picks. Also bigs during Vlades era. The two worst positions to do that with. Long term it won't work. If you stack, stack wings. Maybe not Nets level though haha. Too much is still too much. Monte thankfully jumped on getting out from under the 3 PG situation before it exploded.
