2023 TRADE DEADLINE MEGATHREAD

I'm only worried about the Suns being the next Warriors, and the Lakers next year to an extent.

Kyrie is going to leave the Mavs a smoldering husk just like the last two franchises he was with. It's a move that reeks of desperation and I'd rather do nothing at the deadline than do what they did.

Portland got actively worse and Minny is still the same group of idiots and Memphis can't stop running their mouths and causing trouble to the tune of a nosedive and all good vibes with that group being ruined.

As far as I'm concerned, the only superteam made this deadline was the Suns.
And that superteam has major concerns of its own (everyone is old as hell and/or injured all the time)

When they said "buyout" I was thinking stretch provision. Is that still a thing? If it is, it has to be on the table. Yeah, a buyout just saves Vivek money.
Stretch provision doesn't save much money against the cap when you're stretching a deal that still has three seasons left on it.

I think they'll start playing him now, regularly as their backup 5. There was no explanation for why he didn't earn the spot after he played really well in his start in LA, unless they were holding him out in expectation of a trade
Yeah, maybe he buys in now. The fact was that in those 10-14 backup minutes it was never going to do anything but keep his value as an asset where it was but now, he has to be an asset for the team.

How much though, even 3-4 could make a big difference since the Kings are in this strange space of potentially have a nice instant cap/youth package to deal this summer.

if we bought him out we would have something like 5 mil allocated to our cap for the next 5 years which could cost us in the long run. I think have something like 20-25 mil in functional cap space this summer.
That's the thing though, there is no real long run. Once you have two max guys on your cap moves are going to get more and more difficult, especially if they intend to keep their recent lottery picks beyond their rookie contracts and/or Barnes. Once that happens you can't mostly just add pieces, you have to lose to gain.

I don't have a ton of hope, but if we somehow channeled that LA games Holmes for the rest of the season, that'd be the best possible upgrade we could have done here at the deadline

It would be his remain guaranteed money stretched over the remaining contract years doubled plus 1 year,

So something like $4 -5 million over the next 5 years.

Ngl I am disappointed not one move that have completed out there can be matched by Monte. I can't help feeling shaky for our playoff chase. Only time will tell if this is correct or not.

We got the playoffs. Just gotta stay above the play-in line… might be more of a fight that expected though
I'm more worried about what the actual playoffs look like. Fox and Domas are going to have to two man iron man this thing. Staggering them might work when you're feasting on bad teams to balance things out but I can vaguely remember what playoff games looked like haha. Brown needs to start preparing to upgrade someones role or start getting his team to dial in on the defensive end.

I am not in practice but it could be as simple as Holmes is showing out well in practice.
He may just have been put on the back burners till the deadline shakes out. I have the feeling the team wasn’t going to blow it up just to dump him.

We will more than likely pick up a low hanging fruit shortly as someone should be out there that’ll be better than our end of the bench.

We have wanted in the short past wanted to dump a big contract like Buddy’s or Barnes.
Buddy helped us get Sabonis kinda and now we’re trying to figure out how to keep Barnes.

I will feel much better if we this sweep this weekend as we need to keep those numbers in the loss column low. but we will find out won’t we.

Yeah, buyout market it is. Maybe they can get Justin Holiday back. Doesn't really add what they don't have but he'd fit in the system.

22 of our last 28 games are against teams who are currently in the playin or above.
20 of the 28 are against teams with winning records
14 at home 14 away

We need a 10-14 game stretch where we have most of the team going at the same time. We really can't afford to have 2 or 3 guys in a slump at the same time.

West had been a dogfight all year. Just a matter if we can continue to keep pace.

45 wins I think is the Magic number to stay above the play-in. To hold the 3 seed, I'm guessing 48-49 is needled
