I just want to reiterate how valuable this L will be to the team, who have only started getting to know each other over the summer, and who had been going smooth sailing throughout the whole off-season to training camp and preseason.

Some of them probably were like us, thinking this could be an easy win. It's when you just do not focus enough that things slip out of your hands.

The excitement of the crowd, all the talk about how long we haven't won even though more than half of the team barely even know the town yet, and the players themselves absorbing all that anxious energy.

This L will humble them. Take the uneasy feeling away and get back on track. There should really be no easy win in the league.
I think most players have been in the league long enough to know there are no easy wins. There are some good points to take away from this win: Keegan will be back soon, Domas will likely be more engaged, and not always face a bigger, stronger guy, Monk and Davion will not shoot so poorly, etc. However, unlikely that Fox and Huerter will hit at this pace either.

We need to fix some stuff, most notably with some of our second unit guys giving us more offense. Some of it will hopefully be addressed with Keegan's return (though it's unfair to put the burden on a rookie), but our bench is supposed to be our strength. Our bench played 97 minutes, and gave us 30 points, 17 rebounds, and 8 assists. By contrast, the Blazers bench gave them 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 assists in 68 minutes. At best, it can be called a wash, when this is supposed to be our strength.

At the end of the day, only the result matters, and Blazers walked away with a W on our floor. Given that they are one of our primary opponents, this hurts more.

ps: I like the balance KZ starting brings to the team, and hopefully sets the tone defensively. However, he needs to take more than shot in 16 minutes of action to justify his minutes. It will increase pressure on other players if he is not taking and making shots.

We need more out of Davion. He is going to be playing a ton of minutes, and he can't be giving us 2 points on 1-8 shooting. Yes, he brings much needed defense and toughness, but precisely because of these reasons (and the fact that he is the primary backup to Fox), he is going to be out there.

Yes, we need more from Monk too, but Monk has been around long enough for us to know that he will have good shooting nights. More importantly, once Keegan comes back, Huerter can take up majority of minutes at 2, with Huerter not having to slide over to 3 that much. So, Monk can see reduced minutes when he is offensively off. Not Davion.
I think Davion and KZ could lose their spots in the rotation. 2 points total between them both won’t cut it. TD could take Davion’s spot and Murray/Moneke could take KZ’s.

No. That’s a completely different statement. Losing to a team trying to tank = losing to a team that isn’t trying. We lost to a team many thought would finish with a similar record as us. It was a tough game, but could have gone either way.
I disagree. Most I've seen had kings having a better season than blazers for sure. Even blazer fans in forums thought this was a lost game for sure. And I bet they will be one of the teams tanking before season end. Regardless if you think we shouldn't have won then that's your opinion, I respect it. I think we should have blown they doors off

Keegan would have changed the entire complexion of the game tonight. Especially when Barnes was as off as he was. But mostly having that interplay between Fox, Ox and Keegan would have meant more room for Sabonis to operate. Granted they all need more reps and for the shots to fall and Monk and Davion also need to be more consistent, and TD needs to keep his emotions in check and not take a dumb tech (lol I kid I kid, FU corky!) but there was a lot of good and a lot of needs work/effort.

I think what I am most interested is to see how the team gets back next game, and since I am sure we will probably lose at least 3 of the next 4, how they respond after that. Will we fall into the same old traps? Will they maintain some of that swagger and positive language on and off the court as they have had since draft day?

The Blazers are not good. In other news, the Jazz blew out the Nuggets tonight.

We lost this as much as the refs stole it. The Blazers just happened to be the team we played.

they are a mediocre to bad team with a lousy coach but we were also missing a key weapon at a spot where they are vulnerable and Sabonis played absolutely like dog poo.

and well apparently putting back a bucket is a technical in this league.
For a lousy coach I thought he made a pretty good adjustment at the end of the game.

the BS tech followed by the kick ball swung the game and I don't care about anything else.

and there were a half dozen calls made after Brown's challenge that were highly suspect to close out the 1st qtr and open the 2nd. I don't know if this Corky bastard took it upon himself to make Brown's night hell for daring to challenge so early. Not looking forward to reading the two minute report.
The kicked ball was the correct call. But I agree the reffing was bad.

Paolo was the first rookie since LeBron to go at least 25/5/5 on opening night did you know that?!
oh I wonder if he can be the 6th player in NBA history to average that, like the all-NBA first ballot hall of fame team of Oscar, MJ, Lebron, Luka and Tyreke.

Fox will be a allstar if he plays like he did today
Hunter was my biggest surprise of the day. In love
Barnes?? Anybody seems Barnes?
Kz- harkless 2.0 - not buying the def hype again
Sabonis- worst game I've seen him play not worried

Davion- one game
Monk - expected what I got. Next game will be hot
TD - pleasantly surprised
Holmes - switch with Quinta. Hes lost
lyles - he wont play enough to matter once Murray...

Of course the Sacramento King on that list was the one that never learned to shoot, blew out his knees, and then got booted from the league for hard drugs.

This team does things to people, fam.

Home from the game, still a little shell-shocked from the way the game ended. Team didn't look very good most of the time. No rim protection. Too much 1 on 1, drive and kick...KZ was great on D but equally a non-factor on offense. HB didn't look quick enough to play the 3. Fox kept us in the game shooting 3's, then Huerter and TD. Sabonas was pivoting like crazy in the paint but lacked lift and/or a right hand to finish. Holmes wasn't good, that worries me too.

All that said, the refs were garbage and every call went against us down the stretch. The TD tech was absolute trash. If Lillard did that it would be SportCenter highlight of the night.

Still a bad home loss for the team, and I can't say I see big improvement from years past.

im all for the Queta switch. He needs work but at least he has some offense.

That scoring threat has to be Monk this year. Domas is much better than what he's shown but he's not a one on one dynamo either. Brown is right in the sense that early turnovers were an issue but those were also partly caused because of the way they were playing. A lot of side to side play again with a dead middle. This is why Brown needs to make sure he gets a look at Murray with this starting crew more and more. Players leaving him to hover in the passing lanes could really hurt teams. Also, the Blazers took advantage from the get by having Grant utilize the mismatch since Okpala is really playing PG on defense. And so well TBH that going super big with he, Barnes, and Murray should be looked at. Okpalas one on one defense was terrific overall. Barnes was far from the problem tonight but just like with Keegan, exploring some post play with both is something Brown is missing out on IMO.
