It's looking more and more like the Kings will end up in the 7th spot, barring getting lucky in the lottery. The only team we might catch in our race to the bottom is the Cav's, who are two games worse than us in the loss column. With 13 games left to go, I suppose it's possible, but I wouldn't count on it. On the other hand, we're 5 games behind the Warriors for the 10th spot in the play in. With only 13 games left, it would take a miracle to catch them. So my attention is focused on who should we take at seven?
Looking at our needs, which are in my opinion, at center and small forward. I really like Kai Jones, but he's more of a Power Forward than a center. However, he could fill a need as well depending on what we do with Bagley. I still like Wagner. He's a very skilled player and the Kings need as many of those as possible. My personal favorite is Moses Moody, who is still only 18 years old and is one of the youngest players in the draft. He's an excellent defender and will be a better offensive player in the NBA when he's not the number one focus of the other teams defense. He's also capable of playing all three wing positions. Coming in second as a personal favorite is Davion Mitchell. Only 6'2", but maybe the best defender in college while shooting around 50% from the three.
It's possible that Scottie Barnes slides down to seven, and if so, I would have to consider him. His shooting still scares me, but he's so skilled at everywhere else that he would hard to pass up. I'm still high on Kispert. I can't ignore what he's done through out his college career because of his poor shooting in the Tournament. Another player I really like, and who would likely be considered a reach by many, is Tre Mann from Florida. He's a combo guard and a real baller on both ends of the court. I also like Keon Johnson. As you can see, there are a lot of very talented SG's in this draft, and the best player available just might be a SG.
If we can resign Holmes, then we might be able to address our need for center depth in the 2nd rd with players like Kofi Cockburn, Ibou Dianko Badji, or Sandro Mamukelashjvili. I would love Sandro on the team just to hear our announcers try and pronounce his name. Sandro is a very skilled big man who can also shoot the three. Both Cockburn and Badji are physical specimens with upside, but need some time to develop. However I'm impressed with Cockburns growth this season. He ended the season a much more confident player.
Then you have the dark horses like Usman Garuba, Chris Duarte, or Roko Prkacin. It's also possible that the Kings trade down, or maybe out of the draft altogether. Not likely, but hey, you never know. If I had to pick a player in the so called top five that might slide down a bit, it would be Kuminga, simply because of his poor outside shooting in the G-League. Finally, who would I take if we got lucky and jumped up into the 3rd spot in the draft. Easy choice, Jalen Green. That's assuming that both Cunningham and Mobley went one and two.
