Richaun Holmes Appreciation Thread

I said this in the game thread, but if Richaun keeps this up all season — he’s gotta be a 1st team defender.

If he keeps this up all season and the KINGS end their playoff drought, he’s gotta be in the discussion for DPOY.

Seriously, IDK and really don’t care what the advanced stats say or don’t say. His ability to switch and pressure guards and wing players while consistently being able to get back to his own man is immeasurable. And invaluable. And he does protect the rim and block shots. He does a bit of everything on that end.

Only criticisms are foul trouble and that he could rebound a tad better.

That and his outside shooting. Which presents an interesting problem. Defenders are backing off Richaun and Marvin. It will be very hard to play them together as the spacing will break down.

For this team to win this year you have to have Richaun’s defense. For the team to win a championship you have to develop Marvin. Luke is going to have a real challenge allocating minutes between Marvin and Richaun and balancing the near and the short. He was successful by a hairs breadth last night but not sure anyone wants to play it that close. It will be interesting to watch how he balances it going forward.

I'm confident they'll find the right balance. That said, the decision is easy. Developing the unicorn > short term gains.

Agreed to a point. His outside shooting isn’t a problem, though, when he’s playing inside the paint. Still have to guard him. Also, when he sets screens on the wing, his athleticism, quickness and speed allow him to be fantastic rolling and running to the basket. Still have to guard him.

It’s not like he’s standing out on the perimeter spacing the court like Corey Joseph. So I don’t believe it to be much of an issue.

Cory actually looks like he is willing to take a shot lately and it has helped. Bagley I believe can shoot and once he gets settled again it shouldn’t be the problem we saw in one game.

Holmes has been fantastic and I was wondering how he would do against Adams but his quickness and hounding of the man he is guarding is really good.

When are the Kings going to set some picks for him and run a play for him? Tht would help.
He also needs to make some more cuts to the basket.
His game can expand on offense quite a bit.

Holmes is pretty much the ideal modern small center. He goes out there and plays his butt off on defense. Offensively you don't need to waste possessions by dumping the ball into into him and letting him go to work. He's a great cutter with excellent hands and finishing ability and wont take bad shots pretty much ever.

6'10" amd 235 is big enough.

He hasn't played well for a few games now, but perhaps he has been playing way above his head? He gets a pass given how cheap he is and the fact that he doesn't hijack the offense with post ups.

Twenty games in, often being the MVP on the team is no fluke. It is a long season. It takes concentration and a professional attitude. Players have to learn to deal with it.
