Free Agency Thread - 2018

I didn't see any evidence that they aimed low or high. What makes you think they whiffed. I don't think they swung.
With as many people saying they tried as reported so, including local media, I would say they did indeed try but it never seemed the interest was mutual. As soon as FA started, Mario was meeting with NY.

I won't argue that they weren't interested, but they clearly weren't all that committed to him. I don't think it's a stretch to say that the Kings could have easily committed more to him both financially and in on court opportunities. I think the Kings either didn't see him as valuable as the Knicks or they wanted him at similar numbers but more years to grow him with their core and Mario wanted to flash this year and get paid.

I'm ok with everything so far. A lot of large money deals and short 1 year deals. Nothing for us to really go after there. I would leave LaVine alone as well. Maybe we wait for Denver to shed salary.. instead of a pick they can send us Tray Lyles since they have MPJ now. Can he play SF or is he straight up a PF? he is young though. People like young...

Or they are more interested in getting Lavine or Parker and need that cap space.

Kings have a major hole at SF. He could've came in and got our starting job from the get-go. Kings also have the Peja connection with Mario. Peja was his mentor.

Yet, he chooses NY?

Idc too much about Hezonja, but if we can't close out on him, then it speaks volume of this franchise. But some fans continue to be in denial

Next man up?

Kyle Anderson may be the next realistic target for the Kings.

The other option is a salary dump small forward like Wilson Chandler.

The Kings need to fill that gaping hole at small forward soon.

OR as Woj reported and Mario hinted, he made the choice in part because of the coach.

Honestly, why? Give Bogdan and JJ those minutes and see if that could somehow be an answer. If they went after someone like Parker or Gordon, assuming they feel they are 3's, and they got them then you can say you have upgraded talent wise but other than that what's the point at this point.

What exactly was he doing. Apparently he hasn’t bothered to meet any free agents in person and sell them on the Kings.
Whatever. I'm done trying to point out some logical alternatives to the usual Vlade-hate around here. Why should he meet with a player if (here's a thought) he knows through said player's agent (just an idea) that they're really committed to another team? OR MAYBE - just maybe - Vlade doesn't really care what a bunch of fans on a message board think and has his own plan (right or wrong) for acquiring additional talent for the team.

Ah, but the real question is which fans? Those who have some faith in the front office or those who are convinced there is no plan. Only time will tell. :p

Vlade not doing anything during this FA period is the best thing for the Kings... does anyone really want a disastrous George Hill signing?

To add on, we desperately need a SF. There is no SF worth overpaying..especially not Hezonja.

For those wondering if Vlade Divac is on a plane to meet up with free agents, he’s not at the moment. He was at summer league practice at G1C

Go do your dam Job Vlade!!!!
Signing guys just to say we did it, seems to be a thing of the past. I trust that there’s a plan in place and they already have an idea on who and what they’re looking for

You act like we just missed out on some future all star or something lol and you don’t even know how interested we even were in the guy.

Peja and Vlade are connected to a lot of European players and passed on guys like Luka, anyway. People are gonna have to let go of those assumptions and realize that ethnicity isn’t really a big deal to them. Maybe ... just maybe they’re making decisions based on what they feel will help win the most games in the future.

Fixed it for you. I want a signing as much as the next guy but you are right that we don't want a bad signing just to say we signed someone. But just because we haven't signed anyone doesn't mean we are doing nothing.

FREe agency’s where we get nothing needs to be a thing of the past

At the end of this, we need to feel good about what happened in FA

I'm sure there is truth that. Fizdale seems to be a guy that players almost universally love. Grant seems to believe that we offered less money too. I'm not trying to criticize the FO at all on Mario. I think they had interest, but I don't think he was a really high priority for them. I don't think they are really heartbroken at all that he didn't choose to come here.

EDIT: Grant has since said he doesn't actually know the money. It doesn't really change my view that the Mario was not a high priority for the Kings.

Here’s a quote from Shelborne on the Lebron recruitment:

How did the Lakers close this? Magic Johnson went to one of LeBron’s houses in LA late Saturday night and met with him for several hours.

It’s called doing your job.

I’m not saying Vlade should have signed Hezonja specifically but we need help at SF and Vlade should have gotten us help.

That’s on him.
