If JJ manages to replicate his contributions on court for the Heat over the next 3-4 seasons, then that contract is fair value for a big that does what he can at both ends of the court. He also fits nicely next to Whiteside. I do agree that $60 million over 4 years is a lot for a player that only broke out in his eighth season, but he did show a lot for the Heat last season and I am guessing that their bet is he can at least match that production over the next 3-4 years.

Realistically there is only Pau Gasol available in free agency that could possibly do a better job, but he is 37 years old on the downward trend of his career. He could possibly fit into what Miami do but he is only a year-to-year player at this stage in his career. At least JJ is potentially offering them a few years of good production if he can replicate what he did last season.
I wouldn't sign anyone on a 4 year deal if they were not a core proven essential long term piece for the build of a team.

Let alone a guy who took to 30 to show something.

It's terribly risky with a minute potential reward.

There's always risk.

If JJ does well, it's a good contract and Riley looks like a genius, and their coach also for getting out of him what no one else has.

If JJ does is average or regresses, then it's a bad contract and Riley looks like an idiot.

Like you I think it's risky, but Miami have faith in him and Waiters to give them 4 year deals. It's going to be interesting to see which Miami turns up: 11-30 or 30-11.

Free agent Bojan Bogdanovic has agreed to a two-year, $21M deal with the Indiana Pacers, league source tells ESPN.

Never thought Bojan was worth the 14mpy+ people assumed on here.
Yes maybe lack of defense is good reason not to offer 14/yr for 3 yrs
But for 10.5 yr for 2 yrs , just for his shooting? Heck yeah would take that deal over Carter's 8 mil for 1 yr any day!

Bojan, Jackson,Temple in any order at SF

15 mil per...

What sort of expectation can he reasonably have to pay that much?

A break out 30 year old?

Yeah I'm gonna bet on the no pass bar here.

At best maybe he plays well enough to be over the MLE.

KCP is the most overrated young player I've ever seen. Pistons just renounced their rights

Pistons' highest offer to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was 5 years, $80 million, per source. Salary "wasn't even close" to what KCP is seeking.
Bonzi'd!

Pistons will look back on this day in a few years and buy KCP a really nice fruit basket for saving them all that money.

I see that the 3 1st round picks inked their contracts today. No mention of Mason signing a deal. Got me to thinking if there was any chance of Sac signing Mason to 1 of the 2 new 2way contracts implemented this year.

Picks for cap space is a nice trade off, however I really like the way our front office moves have "felt" since Scott Perry was added. I trust he looked into all possibilities and decided to go the route we did.

Just off the top of my head, a deal like the one posted from Toronto, would mean adding 4 more players next season. Unless we were able to unload some of them for something we wanted.

Still, it was a move I had been looking for. But then I also didn't expect the vets we signed. I'm going to defer to our front office and assume they have their reasons.

ESPN: @Toronto Raptors trade @DeMarreCarrol1 and its 2018 1st AND 2nd round picks to @Brooklyn Nets for #JustinHamilton. @ESPNNBA@ESPNDeportes

Damn I don't mind Vince carter, but taking on carroll + a 1st AND 2nd rounder for a salary dump would have been capspace used wisely.
Excactly - but you know, we now have all the mentorship and all the culture changers we need.
Instead of making smart decisions the Kings fell for some ideologic vision of how a team should be built.

That's a good deal for the Nets even if that first round pick will be outside the lottery. Plus if Carroll can return to the level of play he was at in Atlanta then he could have been a very useful stopgap starting SF for us.

It seems that the Nets are trying to improve and win games. I still feel they'll be near the bottom of the east, but I think they are going to make an effort to try and be a lot better this season since they've got no incentive to tank and help the Celtics out any more than they already have.

This trade puts a pretty damn big dent into Vlade's off-season as there's a 0% chance that the Raptors didn't call us about taking on Carroll and we turned it down. They didn't all of a sudden decide in the last 2 days, when we've been out of cap space, that they wanted to dump him. I liked the ZBO and Carter signings initially and think they'll have value in helping us grow, but knowing this deal was out there makes the signings significantly worse. And the crazy thing is, we still would have had 5 ish mil to throw at Carter.

Carroll can still actually play too and he'll be another year removed from his injuries. He's an outstanding teammate and a guy who had to scratch and claw for everything he's become in the NBA. He'd have been a great model for all our young wings on how to play D. And he plays a position we needed some help at.

Frustrating to say the least. The Nets put on a clinic on how to use their cap space. For 30 mil basically, they got Russell, a first and a 2nd round pick. They aren't going to be good for a long time, but that's exactly the model bad teams should follow and spend their money.

And once again - I couldn't agree more. Great post.

Irregardless of whether we should have pursued a Carroll deal or signed Vince Carter, the announcers from yesterday's SL games were saying that Vince Carter was a perfect signing by the Kings as there is nobody better than him in that mentor role. Spoke very highly ofCarter and what he brings.

30M obligation for 2018 1st round pick that projects #25 to #30 and 2nd rounder between #55 to #60?? You are basically buying late first rounder and late second rounder and getting a guy who can't play. Carroll hurt his leg and has not been the same player since Atlanta. He is deadweight. This is an exorbitant price to pay for draft picks unlikely to have more talent than the talent you acquired over the last two drafts. For the Nets it makes more sense for a team deprived of young talent.

I would want a projected lottery pick for 30M.

Tbh if I remember correctly that 2nd round pick will be either Lakers or Magic not Raptors. So it wil be a 30-40 range atleast.
