[Game] Kings v. Bucks - 2/1/16 - 7 PT, 10 ET

We are in a losing mode. Rest Cuz and see if we can't repeat the no-Cuz 100 point production of last game and hold them to 95 o fewer points. Massive effort but why not. Nothing else is going by the book. Go Kings!!!!

I've looked into my crystal ball...

I see images of Middleton draining threes, Monroe finessing his way to the rim for easy buckets and Giannis carving up the Kings D.

Seriously though, I hope Cuz sits this one out. I don't want to see him test the ankle.

Every game counts. We made an all in move before the season to make the playoffs. If we fail, it most likely will result in just another GM, another coach (maybe not the worst thing), another roster turnover and maybe even a DMC trade for picks and young assets.
If the ankle allows it, we need to play DMC. Yes there might be a serious risk, that he rolls the same ankle again, but it would take not just one game but most likely several weeks to allow a stretched ligament or a sprained ankle to heal completely. And by this time we are out of the playoff race without DMC.

I'm still trying to figure out what Milwaukee Buck player will randomly go off for a career high....don't bother picking a big, it's going to be a guard. So you're options are Middleton, Bayless, Carter Williams. It would be pretty cool to see OJ Mayo play, he hasn't the last couple of games, otherwise I probably would of chose him.

Middleton or Bayless. With our luck, probably both.

I'm down in the dumps about this season now and I'm usually in the optimistic fan section. Until the Kings win a few in a row again, they have to convince me that they can win. I'll watch but my hopes are not up. I would excuse it if it was another of our mostly talentless rosters but there is no reason this team shouldn't be able to win half of their games.

I am procrastinating calling the mechanic about replacing my drive shaft, so I figured I'd post a 'View from the Other Side' since I enjoy Tetsujin's so much:

from http://boards.grizzliesonline.com:

  • 08:48 Which Boogie will we see? The 56 one or the 4-21 one? Should be fun.
  • 09:01 You'd think that with that roster the Kings should be much better placed in the standings.
  • 01:20 I hope someone asks Marc Gasol, how he prepares to face off against "the best big man in the league, Demarcus Cousins". Maybe it will light a fire under his ***, and he'll get more than 5 rebounds.
  • 03:02 On paper they have a pretty good team. Rondo being half crazy and Cousins lack of gray matter is hurting them.
  • 06:30 Maybe Karl was the wrong coach for this team. He's usually good at maximizing team strengths but with the Kings it's like you can't maximize one strength without taking away from another. You are definitely right about the ball sticking sometimes. They can quickly go from looking like a well oiled machine to looking like a pick up game.
  • 06:47 If I were the Kings, I would trade Cousins for a stockpile of picks. The guy is not a winner on any level. Boston is just itching to make a big move like this. I am serious to. I am not even sure I would want him on the grizzlies. I would trade this guy in a heartbeat.
  • 07:07 our bench is way better than there's and that will be apart of the difference in this game. Im going Memphis 88-81
  • 07:13 Rudy's first game back I know he probably holds a grudge from their loses last season especially Lee's game winner
  • 07:19 Kings are a mess.
  • 07:34 I sure don't miss those Koufos bunny bricks.
  • 07:39 Grizzlies firing on all cylinders. Kings playing ...like the Kings.
  • 07:42 Oh boy. Hollins defending Cousins
  • 07:45 Glad we are taking it too a weak team.
  • 07:45 Dang we've hit a 20 lead. Looks like we are going to double OT
  • 07:47 Man I hope the extraterrestrials dont come back to return the real Jeff Green and leave this MIB clone here
  • 07:56 [...] I don't know if there is a player that realistically i would trade jeff Green for.
  • 07:58 Kings need to give up on building around Cousins
  • 08:11 LOL at Karl's face after Collison's foul
  • 08:30 The really depressing part is that Jeff has literally become the most entertaining aspect of grizzball because Joerger refuses to play young guys.
  • 08:31 Cousins can't move. I don't understand why they keep him on the court.
  • 08:36 How is it possible that the Spurs can have two undrafted rookies out there on the floor in Simmons and Marjanovic, yet somehow Jam and Ennis can't play over Carter. I know I know, Carters outstanding play is crucial to this teams succcess, must be that yeaaaaa. Then again, the Spurs let Jam go. Maybe they know somethin we don't.
  • 08:42 Hey folks, we already know Joerger isn't playing the young guys. No need to beat it to death with a stick.
  • 08:46 Dear Front Office: when you receive a call demanding a ransom in exchange for the safe return of the real Jeff Green, just hang up.
  • 08:57 Uncle Jeff waking up from his rocking chair till the trade deadline then back to the snooze.
  • 09:03 My theory is this: Remember in 2012-13 how bad the Grizzlies were leading up to the Rudy trade? The guys have been told no one is being traded, and CLee and Jeff being extended in FA
  • 09:10 WTH why is Vince still in?
  • 09:13 IS this organization really going to give Conley the MAX?
  • 09:13 Why is there always a major comeback involved with the Kings?
  • 09:14 Aww heck. Dafar qaw is happening?
  • 09:17 Dave's love affair with Vince and leaving Matt's bricks in their killing us
  • 09:18 Getting out rebounded by 20 giving up 17 offensive boards will hurt you
  • 09:19 Gotta expect that from DMC. But hold him to 3-17 shooting and you should, SHOULD be OK.
  • 09:20 Turns out Conley was only mostly dead.
  • 09:20 Why are we playing a clearly injured Conley?

  • 09:23 The refs have no control over this game.
  • 09:26 Cousins is lucky if it's only a twisted ankle. He could have easily messed up his knee.
  • 09:26 Our halfcourt offense is garbage.
  • 09:26 Marc Gasol dirty player trying to hurt DMC on purpose.

  • 09:31 Good stuff Rudy.
  • 09:36 We are lucky they missed one extra free throw, but sometimes it takes luck to win.
  • 10:02 Grizz were up 15 when Conley reentered the game.
  • 10:02 18pts for LEE on 5 shots no way he is supposed to get only 5 shots, how does your best shooter only get 5 shots in over 30min. and coach played VINCE to long need to run more plays for LEE
  • 07:46 Jeff has the skills we'd hoped Rudy would develop. Watching Rudy failing to finish around the rim last night brought back too many bad memories.

Okay, now it's time to call the mechanic:D

We really need to win this. We are losing ground in the playoff race and with a rough part of the schedule coming up fast, the types of games we have had in the last 3 really have no place anymore, otherwise we can kiss the 8th seed goodbye.

I think the fact that we can predict a guard from the other team has a career high speaks to the inept guard line of the Kings coupled with a defensive philosophy rooted in 1990's post defense schemes. One of 2 things has to happen.

1) Kings change their defensive schemes to cover the outside shooter instead of switching and getting beat every time

2) Kings go out and get a 2 guard who can defend his position (ie get thru screens and get out on the 3 pt shooter) and hit the occasional jumper.

If one of those things don't happen, the Kings will win just enough games to not get a top 3 pick again, and remain mediocre....

No Cuz = us quite likely to have blown THE 5 straight games, the very ones right at the heart of the season, that could have turned things not just for this year but going forward. Another imminently winnable game. At some point our non-Cuzzes have to put on their big boy pants and prove they can compete in this league on their own.

With the other "contenders" for #8 limping along anyone who says we can't sneak in is just being cowardly in their pessimism. Its safer to not hope, if hoping is even something you do in this situation. That said, right here, the games were lined up, we were on a Cuz-inspired roll, and its just one of those franchise moments. We could have had momentum, started to threaten #6 and #7, been one of the talked about teams going into the break...but nobody has been able to win the big one around here in 10years. And so now its up to a hard scrabble down the last month of the season with a dubious reward of a first round beatdown.

The REST of this Freaking team needs to MAN UP and play ball!!!

IF Cuz is OUT, you can not just concede this game as a loss, like they do every time that Cuz is out!!!

MAN UP AND WIN THIS GAME FOR BIG CUZ!!!
The team concedes games all the time with Cousins why wouldn't they when he's not there?

I wasn't going to watch this game but with Cuz out, there is at least a sense of curiosity going on in me. That may sound all bass ackwards but frankly I thought this game was a loss and I want to see what we do with WCS and Acy. I think this team needs to learn to play without Cuz and if it doesn't happen this year, then next year. We are very predictable with Cuz on the floor and frankly we look lost on offense without Cuz but I want to see if we can function. I think it's important so shoot me.

I'm crazy. Get me a shrink!!!

In truth, I am trying very hard to find something interesting in this team to encourage me to keep watching. When they are doing bad and the camera flips to Vlade, look at the signs of anguish on his face. i saw a deeply disturbed guy last game and it was a guy (I assume) frantically trying to think of what to do. We all have ideas and a few would alter this team so much for this yer that any thoughts of the playoffs would be flushed down the drain. He has a big decision or a small decision and his first decision is whether to go big or small.

Cousins out tonight. unlikely tonight will be the winning game we're looking for.
With Cousins out I expect Willie to get 12 to 15 minutes of playing time, with Acy getting the bulk of Cousins minutes. Might even see Anderson there for a bit. On a serious note, I really don't give a damm anymore. Totally fed up with this team. I might actually start watching soccer. On second thought, I'd kill myself first.
