George Karl's Wild Ride

Thibs is who we need he is by far the best fit for this team and would emphasise defence.

Malone was a poor mans Thibs. Malone's dismisal has brought us nothing positive at all apart from the oppourtunity now to go and get the real deal.

Pick up the phone Vlade.

Nah! The OKC game was given away by our big 2.
Rudy and DMC could have sealed this game if they know how to jump higher.

Missed dunk by Rudy, missed alley-oop by DMC.
Missed free throws by DMC, fumble on Rudy.

Rondo kept on shining. But the rest of the team's start kept running away from a win.

Pretty sure this was the Fire Karl thread at one point. Vlade may not have a choice after tonights presser.

Karl on level of buy in he has: “The only answer I give … IDK I’d say 80-95% of days we’ve reacted well” 1/2

Karl: “I said to the guys this morning, we’ve played 30 games and all of a sudden it’s a tug of war to get you to commit to running.”

GK: “You’ve gotta run, space the court and find easy baskets b/c that’s the best way to play in the game today.”

Karl on his team running/being tired: “That’s crazy. Every team in this league runs. Our first priority in training camp was transition.”

GK: GS a tough team to play good D against, you have to throw that out a little.POR’s good long athletic kinda like PHI w/much better record

Karl: “Inconsistent intensity, inconsistent focus, inconsistent toughness + mental discipline."

Not to harp on this some more but Malone would have blown a gasket in the post game presser after a game like this. There is no accountability or discipline, we truely have a "jazz" conductor.

Wow George, you really hit on it IMO with these two zingers.

Karl: “My feeling is that we have too many offensive players and not enough defensive players. We don’t have enough guts to make stops."

I am not even a fan of Karl...

But apparently, this board thinks he instructed our players to miss 16 FTs and commit 22 TOs tonight.

.
Think about this though -- the two are not entirely unrelated. Missing free throws and turning the ball over both stem from a lack of concentration.

At the beginning of the year we were saying it was a new roster and a new system, give them time to gel. But that's not happening ... if anything our execution has been getting worse. As we continue losing, there are going to be differing opinions about what is and is not working and what changes need to be made. That's where the friction between our core players and our coach becomes a serious issue.

We're in the foxhole arguing with each other while the enemy just marches right in and takes our flag (how's that for mixed metaphors? ;) ) In plain terms, the whole attitude around this team sucks and a strong leader has yet to emerge who's capable of rallying everyone to the cause.

Cousins and Rondo are strong personalities but they're also too inwardly focused I think to be that strong leader we need. Rudy Gay seems like the type of person who just wants to keep his head down and stay out of the way while other people fight it out. George Karl has too much ego to lead this team in the right direction. His smirk shouts in a way his voice no longer can "play it your way then, I'll be here to show you the light when you realize it's not working". That style might work with some players, but it will never work with Cousins.

Even when we win nobody looks all that happy. Imagine you go in to work every day for a boss you can't stand. I imagine your productivity might suffer a bit. This is no different. Ultimately it is on the players to play better but it also should be the goal of the organization to help make these players' lives easier if possible, because winning helps everybody make money.

You made some good points so I added some paragraphs for you. :)

Players are more prone to make mistakes, when they play out of their comfort zone. 22 TO's are not surprising, the Kings lead the league in TO's this season, if I'm not mistaken. This issue hasn't been addressed/fixed since the beginning of the season. I blame no one but the coach or the system he's been running.

Many of the Kings turnovers are unforced and passes/plays that shouldn't be made. I think the Kings just don't have players who make good decisions with the ball.

Coming from the guy that took the most dominant C last year and stuck him at the 3 point line. Karl has to go. There might be time to salvage this year if they just get a meat and potatoes coach will will cater to the two best players on the team in Gay and Cuz. It's not hard, just do the exact opposite of coach Karl.

Pretty sure we were bottom 6 in the league under Malone when they played in their "comfort zone"

Do the people with their "hire Karl" signs feel silly yet?

Does Vivek feel silly for cratering to fan pressure?

Does anyone have a conscience? Does anyone care anywhere in the organization?

The worst case scenarios are coming into focus.

'With the first pick, in a pick swap with the lowly kings, the sixers select, Ben Simmons!"

At the time, Karl was worth a shot. Compared to what we had before, and his resume, we had nothing to lose. It was similar to renting Rondo for the year: "we can't do any worse, let's give it a shot".

Now we can see the results. We are in the playoff hunt, and that's due mainly to the talent. However, it is CRYSTAL CLEAR that the coaching isn't making full use of the available talent, and the Philly loss makes it abundantly clear. George Karl has to go.

A fan on twitter put George's comment on not having enough defensive minded players into perspective.....that is blaming Vlade. I wonder what is going through Vlade's mind after that comment.
