I've always liked Thompson, and I've never made a secret of it. He's not a star, but he's a solid player, and there's no shame in that. And it's not as if I feel like we should keep him at all costs: if we can trade Thompson, and get a better player at his position, then I would wish him fair winds and following seas. I have (and still do) questioned whether the likes of Quincy Acy and Reggie Evans qualify as "better" players, but that is neither here nor there at this time.
With that having been said, and relative to the post quoted above, Jason Thompson can back up the 5 spot. And, to the best of my knowledge, he is still the only player currently under contract who fills that particular billet. For that reason, if for no other, I would say that Landry absolutely has to be the first to go between the two. He can't back up the 5, and neither can any of the other "power" forwards we have on the payroll. If the trade is indeed for Smith, a S&T deal with Thomas would have to involve Landry, Williams, Terry or Thompson, and Thompson is the only player out of those four who doesn't have at least two other guys that can play his position.
