Jimmer to be bought out

#31
Ok, what about Acy tho. There are a slew of PF looking for min now?
Again, you're mentioning someone that's getting minutes here. Jimmer wasn't going to see anymore minutes. Obviously they like Jimmer, as do I, (I think he's a good guy) so why wouldn't they buy him out and give him the chance to play somewhere else?

Cowbell Kingdom had a rumor that the Heat offered a second rounder and PDA turned them down. If it's true, that was a mistake by the front office. Now they get the privilege of paying money to see him play elsewhere.
I have a hard time believing that, unless it was early in the season. When you buy a guy out a week after the trade deadline obviously you would have taken any asset (except a longterm contract) you could have gotten back for him.

As an aside, this trade deadline was weird in part because all of a sudden somebody...maybe the new numbnuts stats geeks GMs?...seemed to decide 2nd round picks were all of a sudden worth their weight in gold. If you could have gotten 4 or 5 of them together you probably could have gotten LeBron.

I'd like to see him get a chance to play for Jeff Hornacek in Phoenix
There has to be a roster spot for him. Right now the Suns have 14 players and Okafor on injury reserve. They would have to buy out a player to fit him on their roster.

Conspiracy theory time. If Jimmer signs with the Heat, there should be a few raised eyebrows. Jimmer for Mason doesn't work straight up under the CBA rules. Instead we buyout Jimmer a week later and he goes to the team with an open roster spot without violating the strict terms of the CBA. Anyone happen to know how much cash changed hands? I figure Jimmer is owed about $600k for his last two months while Mason was only owed about $200k.

If does happen, I don't see anything "wrong" with it. Just two teams being smart and playing the rules to their favor. It happens in the actual games all the time....like players knowing that they can get an extra "half step" after picking up their dribble and going to the rim

If it did happen, it's collusion to get around the terms of the agreement. That's the kind of thing that gets owners censured by the league. In any case, it's for something other than a star player, and other teams can bid on Jimmer, so I doubt there would be any sort of hubbub.

With a buyout, you don't save money if someone else picks him up, but you can negotiate a lower price to get him off the roster.

As far as being deemed nice for letting him go, that's not nothing. The Kings need to be seen as a good player management team to agents and other players if they want any chance of attracting talent in free agency. Letting Jimmer sign somewhere else when he isn't wanted on the team is a good karmic move that hopefully pays dividends down the road.
Yeah, this is, what good organizations do, once they determine that team and player have different roads ahead.

It might not have been the best basketball decision because it leaves you vulnerable to an IT injury but was the right thing to do on a personal level. Glad to see them cut Jimmer free.
If it means a few less wins, it's not a bad thing. Rare win-win situation.

Well, let me be the guy who answers the actual question (which was, "Who else from the previous era did D'Alessandro get rid of?", not "Who else from the previous era is left?"), and say, if you want to count letting unrestricted free agents walk as having "done away with," like you did with Douglas, then you might as well also count Aldrich and Johnson.

D'Alessandro: "We're talking to Jimmer's people." Says Kings were approached by Jimmer's people.
Akis Yerocostas ‏@Aykis16 2m
Sounds like Jimmer's people are the ones that started these talks, which makes sooo much sense. They wanted a trade, trade wasn't there.

D'Alessandro says that Vivek loves Jimmer and wants to do right by him. #SacramentoKings

As @itsjonsantiago pointed out, Jimmer and Rudy share agents. Worth it to Kings to do Jimmer a favor by buying him out.

Pete D'Alessandro says the decision about Jimmer "was made in October" & that Kings are talking to his people about buyout
Rob McAllister ‏@Rob_McAllister 22s
D'Alessandro "we are talking with Jimmer's people." Did not elaborate on buy out - added decision was made when team didn't exercise option
I don't know about those last two. Every consider reconsidering a position?

"This league is funny. Stuff kind of comes out and it's just not there yet." -D'Alessandro on Jimmer situation

Even though this leaves the team more vulnerable to an IT injury, it doesn't really matter since we are in tank mode anyway. Good luck Jimmer!

Good for Jimmer. Although I think its a mistake to let him go at this point considering Ray has shown nothing.
Really? Lets see, we've played 55 games so far if memory serves. So, that means he's averaged 1.8 minutes a game. Wow, and he's shown nothing so far, despite all the opportunities he's had.

The downside to making the decision in October (which PDA confirms and probably should have been obvious to everyone) is that no matter what jimmer did on the court for the kings, he was gone anyway.

This is what I don't understand. I understand not picking up the option based on what he had done up to that point but not being flexible to reconsider I don't understand.

Its one thing to buy out one player, but remember, you still have to pay that player. All your doing is opening up a roster spot. In Jimmers case, I thing they're trying to do what's right for him. It's no skin off their nose if they were to let him ride the bench the rest of the year. The buyout is a small one since its only for what's remaining for the rest of this year. Essentially, a small amount of money. To buy out JT, you'd be talking about a substantial amount of money, which would still count against the cap, and you'd be getting no return on your dollar. Much better to trade him for something you need, or at worse, still have the use of his services.

They tried to trade Jimmer, and I'm guessing that the only offers they got included a bad contract coming our way. One dumpee for another. So, they're trying to give Jimmer a chance to sign where he wants. He wasn't going to play the rest of the year anyway, and the cost is minimum. I wish him well.

We have 3 guards on the roster currently. Is there an FA that is worth giving a 10 day contract too ?
Not sure, T-Will earned another NBA cameo, despite his seemingly changed attitude, but another guy worth look is Manny Harris. Harris shoots 88% from FT line on around 10 attempts in D-league, so his shot mechanics is good, but lack of strength limits his range, and shot selection is a likely culprit as well. Despite lack of strength he's a very good rebounder due to great mobility, which also makes him better defender vs PGs rather than SGs.
In the end Malone is giving McCallum minutes without taking them from IT, so for now it seems Kings actually don't have any time to get 4th guard on the court.

In a bit of irony, Beno is now available.
I would take advantage of that irony. We had a borderline number of guards until we let loose MT and Jimmer. Now we are one injury away from a big time tank. Of course, IT being the athlete he is, will not get injured in the next 27 games or whatever it is. Is PDA counting on that or is the whispered word "tank" part of the plan? The tightrope is getting narrower.

We could always bring up Trent Lockett from our D-League team. He doesn't do anything spectacular, but he's solid, can hit an open shot, and he's a very good defender. At least he has the size to play the position.

I'd like to see it, especially over giving Outlaw minutes at the 2. However, 3 of our 4 guard rotation would be stupidly raw
