Kings active in trade talks?

First rumble:

Several teams have called Milwaukee about point guard Luke Ridnour, including Washington and Sacramento.

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/writer...ar-diary-dan-gilbert-learns-from-his-mistakes
what exactly does bringing in Ridnour for the rest of the season do for the kings? ........

How about Landry for Ilyasova? He's had a disappointing year with all his numbers down this season. He costs almost 2 million more than Landry per season varying each year. It would save the Bucks a ton of cap room and more money to work with more pieces. I don't see the Bucks dealing him for such a low player in reward, but it would save them some money.

Well he definitely isn't a starting pg over IT. And getting a 30 game rental on a backup pg is pointless unless you are dumping outlaw or somehow Thornton. Unless #2) IT is being traded then you have an experienced pg to come in case jimmer or Ray are struggling at certain times. Unless #3) both IT. And Jimmer are being traded then you got Luke as a backup to our new pg for 30 games and Ray is backup next year after some work.

Maybe they know they are locked in with Sanders. Butler is on his way out. We could offer them a nice young SF with potential with Derek Williams. Maybe they would come off Hanson and Luke for Williams.

Ridnour makes more sense then people are letting on if we're still on the get Isaiah a more passing oriented backup PG kick.

We just either have to be intent on resigning him, and he's no spring chicken, or we can't give up anything to get him.
It may not be management philosophy but I personally wouldn't look to actively improve the roster with veterans who may not be here long term when we sit 4th projected in this great upcoming draft

I guess there are many reasons for a call, looking for more immediate wins is not my bag, but I understand others may feel different

Ring. ring...Hello?

Hi, this is Pete D'Allesandro of the Sacramento Kings. Are you guys moving anybody besides Luke Ridnour?

Um, no...

Okay, thanks. Bye-bye.
I don't think so. Considering that whoever we have been linked to is not a long term solution (except for Rondo and Dragić rumours a while back), then this should not surprise. Who ever we get (Ridnour, Miller, etc) is unlikley to be here beyond this season anyway so it won't be anyone that we can get excited about. As long as they can come here, play 15-20 minutes and do their job, I don't care who it is.

Its pretty obvious the hierarchy likes IT a great deal and plan on keeping him unless there is an opportunity to get an all-star level in return. As soon as the rumours were leaked last week that we liked IT and were looking for a pass first PG and were not willing to take on long term salary or trade picks, Ridnour's name came to me. Miller, Ridnour etc.... Those are the sort of names that you can get for what we are willing to give up. I am not fussed as long as he can come in and run the team efficiently for 15-20 minutes a game.

Me thinks you could be right. Obviously the Kings aren't shopping for a long term answer when you bring up the names of Ridnour and Miller. But you do get experience with both those guys. Both can run a team, and both have degree's of credibility around the league. You won't break out in a sweat when either brings up the ball. At the same time, neither sends a thrill up your leg. Sometimes, you have to make a move, to make another move. Not saying that's the case, but it could be. Ridnour is an interesting player. He's averaged over 30 minutes a game many times in his career. He's been asked to play both SG and PG at times. Personally I always thought he played his best at the point. He's one of those players that shoots the ball fairly well when he just takes what's there, but becomes less efficient when asked to carry some of the scoring load.

The question would be, just who is it that they want to replace. Are they upset with Jimmers production, and feel that Ridnour would give them a more solid, experienced bench player? Or are they desperate to move IT to the bench? With 30 games left, and the team going nowhere, neither of those scenario's makes any sense. Particularly when the players we're talking about are short term fixes. I have to think that there's something else in the works. I wouldn't place a lot of emphasis on what the Kings are saying about IT, and his future with the Kings. GM's say whatever they feel is appropriate to the moment. The T Wolves say they won't trade Love. The Celtics say they won't trade Rondo. The Bull's just told Boozer that he won't be traded. Houston's Morley said that Asik is part of the future of the team. Yeah, right! The next five days should be interesting.

OK, I remember how the Toronto rumors started. Sac was reportedly interested in Gray. Then the Kings land Gray AND Gay. I think that means the Kings are really going after one of their shot blockers!! Sanders is out for most of the rest of the season but so what? Ridnour and Sanders would be solid additions.

One can hope, right?

Thornton/landry or landry/Jimmer saves them 20million next 4 years.
I think Sanders is easier to get although I would want Henson

That was my initial thought with the Luke Ridnour talk. Unfortunately, I doubt Henson would be available (he's their only good big this year), and Sanders poison pill would make him next to impossible to get via trade. That would leave Udoh, who is a good shot blocker, but a terrible rebounder and almost no feel for the game.

I liked him pre-draft but he's gone from raw to totally one-dimensional. I just have a very hard time believing he can be much better than what he is now, unfortunately. Like you said, it's pretty obvious the game just doesn't come naturally to him at all.

The only problem with Sanders is his contract.
His two highlights of the year are:

1. Injuring his hand in a bar fight while throwing bottles into a crowd. BTW, this is how he preferred to spend his time a day before his pregnant wife gave birth to a baby girl.
2. Leaving his German shepherd puppies outside in the snow for hours without shelter, food and water.

Yes, other than his contract he has no problems.

Oh, sorry I forgot to mentions those, now why don't you tell it to the guy here that suggested the Kings trade for Sanders? I only mentioned a team concern, I forgot to mention his off court issues and oh yeah like he is the only player who has off court issues right?

Ok , just to add to my previous reply to you and just wanna please some guys here, here are Sanders' problems; 1. His contract 2. His bad locker room presence 3. Being injured 4. Being involved in a fight 5. Leaving his pets outside during snow. Feel free to add more issues if you like guys anyway there are people here who act they know it all and they'll be sarcastic if you don't mention all what they know.

Henson is a center right now. Has no touch from outside, his FT% is in mid-fifties, so he has a very long way to become reliable from mid-range. But most importantly he doesn't make his team better defensively: with Sanders on the floor Bucks allow 1,05 ppp, with Henson - 1,1. So while contract makes trading for Sanders very hard sell, I don't want Henson for basketball reasons. :)

Uhm it would not be my goal for Henson to become reliable from midrange. His acquisition would not at all be for offensive purposes. How does a legit shot blocker and rebounder not make this team better? It's an upgrade over acy and gray. Maybe even JT. Either way you got a rotation of Cuz, Henson, JT.

Ideally you want your shot blocker to be on floor along with Cousins. That's not easy to do, when he's affecting Boogie's offense. Even 2 second release from Acy doesn't allow to openly cheat on Cousins. With Henson you are free to do that. And I was wrong in my previous post: with Henson on the floor Bucks allow 1.13 ppp (not 1.10), without him - 1.07.

He is shooting just a tad under 40% from midrange this year, right about the same as JT. That's nothing to write home about, but it's also not a huge liability if you have him at the high post or weakside baseline. More importantly, he is best when shooting and operating on the right side of the court. Cousins is better on the left. That suggests a complementary fit on offense.

In any case, the point is moot. Milwaukee has him on a very cheap contract for the next several years. They aren't going to give him up without getting something of significant value in return, and Derrick Williams isn't that.

It's not that you didn't mention it all. It's that you said his contract was the "only" problem, when clearly it is not.
