I guess I am not the only person who is pleased with Jimmer. He understands offense. He is trying (and largely failing) at defense. His shot is falling. He is probably now nothing more than could have been possibly expected when he was drafted. I will pay attention to his defensive effort today as I almost never watch that in any player not named Artest or Mbah a Moute. He is not strong, he would get rattled around like a pin ball if he went in among the trees, but anywhere from mid range out, he hits his shots.

I presume today he will play a little bit and be removed as soon as possible for IT because of Malone's focus on defense ..... oh, wait. :) I am a little confused at what Malone expects but I will be the last to complain about him. He is a defensive minded coach with no defenders on his team. It's got to be a crap storm inside his head. I want Jimmer to have more minutes especially when his minutes are taken by a guy who has lost his shot and plays no defense. I'm not sure it will make the Kings a better team but I can't imagine it making the Kings a worse team.

Jimmer's career may be in doubt but I still say we should give him more minutes. Why reward IT?

I would disagree with you. Jimmer will find a home. If he had enough 3 point attempts (which he is darn close to having) he would be close to leading the NBA in 3 point shooting. He also has shown that his Basketball IQ is much higher than the pizza guy with a willingness to get his teammates going besides himself. I understand your not in the pro-Jimmer camp based on a lot of your previous posts but there is definate interest in Jimmer. Those teams want a bargain or are queitly waiting to pick-up him up in the offseason. He'll get his shot (most likely with a veteran playoff team that already plays solid team defense). I think chances are Jimmer logs minutes in the playoffs with a different team before the Kings ever make the playoffs.

Only if he's traded to a playoff team before the trade deadline this year .................. or the other teams plays first next year. :)

Jimmer has improved each year despite playing less minutes. Which is probably a testament to his work ethic and learning curve. With steady playing time at the 2 he could be a good scoring punch off the bench. If we could somehow trade Thornton and let Jimmer have back his old role of 2 guard that would be great.

Totally agree that Jimmer will have a home. Said as much in my previous POST. However I am not convinced it is in Sacramento. You would think that with the presence we have down low with Cousins that there would be opportunities on the perimeter for a shooter like Jimmer to get a good look every now and again. I think Jimmer needs to get better at feeding the post. That way they can clear that side of the floor and force the double team either from Jimmer's man (small on big) or from a weak side defender (leaving an open cutter to the rim). I would think this would be good several times a game, but they dont seem to have Jimmer and Big Cuz on the floor together that often.

Shooters are not a dime a dozen. They are a commodity just like 3 and D players. I'm sure if they had a decent backup center, Jimmer would be much more effective on the second unit.

They say that pets are a vicarious extension of the owner. Thus the touchiness. I actually thought it was cute, I just didn't know what it was. Looked like a dog to me. Hey, I'd rather be a cat looking like a dog, than a dog looking like a cat. Or was it the other way around? What do I know, I'm a crab and I used to be a monkey. My wife says I'm a crabby jackass!

I'm on the fence about Jimmer one one hand he is slowly learning to run the show and on the other he is expendable because as it is we have a glut of bad defensive guards. It's going to be interesting to see what direction management goes in regarding IT/Jimmer/MT. There is no immediate need to trade him because he's expiring and Ray is waiting in the wings. Your move PDA.

EDIT: One last thing I agree with the comments on the first page that we are knowingly and purposely playing him out of position probably to raise his value "hey there mis-handling Jimmer lets bring him in see what he got at the 2" and It's probably good for him long term to learn to bring the ball up and initiate the offense.

Your thoughts about Cuz helping Jimmer to get good shots makes sense, but unfortunately, Jimmer isn't on the floor very much with Cousins, and there in lies the problem. He has been on the floor with Gay quite a bit recently, or until the injury, but when Gay gets the ball and the other players on the floor are Jimmer, Acy, Williams, and Gray, guess whose going to shoot the ball. It would be interesting to see the results of Jimmer getting more minutes with Cousins.

Well it may come down to this:

Thornton > 8 mil a year
IT > probably 6 mil a year minimum
Jimmer > Very cheap

I like jimmer even if I'm not pro jimmer's basketball ability...let's put that to rest.

He is the guy judge reinhold played in an after school special about 30 years ago. He was cut from his high school team and wrote a song for class. It was called, "A step too slow".

Not sure you showcase a guy by playing him against the team that's interested in him, especially if that team is named the Spurs. ;)

He doesn't have the length to consistently guard the '2' in the NBA

Jimmer is the kind of player that could potentially flourish in Pop's system. Unselfish, capable of scoring and generally high bball IQ. There are of course lots of holes in his game that need work on but if Pop can constantly turn D-leaguers and no-name players into 15 minute rotational players at the very least I'm sure he can do something with Jimmer.

Figures, just one name of several the Spurs might be interested in. I was wondering what they would be willing to give up and I guess the author thinks these other teams should just oblige for nothing (not really but didn't give any hint what would go the other way). Thanks.

The Spurs don't have much to give up. They'll have to give up about $1.87M to get Jimmer's contract, and they're not going to send Kawhi Leonard. That leaves them with five small contracts, of which we would have to take two: Jeff Ayres (Pendergraph) and Cory Joseph (both 2-year guaranteed deals) and Nando De Colo, Patty Mills, and Aron Baynes on one-year deals. Id' assume we wouldn't be heavily interested in any of these players and certainly not the 2-year deals. So their best offer is going to be two one-year deals we don't want, and throw in their first-rounder, which will be high-20s.

Is there going to be anybody in the high-20s that will be better than Jimmer for us? I kind of think the real talent in this draft will peter out before that. I cannot see Kyle Anderson falling that far (despite where DX has him). Maybe you can grab a Cory Jefferson, or maybe a C.J. Fair, or maybe a Markel Brown, or maybe there's a diamond in the rough down there, but a high-20s pick doesn't excite me. Not only that, but there's a chance we could get more like a high-teens pick out of Jimmer. I'd just have a hard time pulling the trigger on a Spurs deal unless there was really nothing else on the table.

I don't know. I would take that high-20s and a flyer on a couple of the other players, especially the RFA ones rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season. The two year contracts don't scare me off either (provided their not NBA level scrubs) because the Kings will possibly need a couple of low salary players at the end of the bench next year. I have no idea what the demand is for Jimmer but he's showing that he can play and would have to imagine he would like a fresh start somewhere else.

Teams where I think Jimmer would flourish

  1. Spurs - Pop is coach. Veteran team that plays defense. Wouldn't rock the boat.
  2. Knicks - home town boy. Fav team growing up
  3. Lakers - D'Antoni runs an offense that fits Jimmer's strengths. (Lin, Nash for example)
  4. Heat- 3 point shooting threat off bench a la Steve Kerr
  5. Memphis- see #1 without Pop.
I'm sure there are more.

I know that your a UCLA guy, and therefore, I'll take that into account. But I think Anderson will be lucky to get picked in the first round, and I like the kid. He's not even an average athlete. He didn't get the nickname SloMo for nothing. He is skilled, I'll give him that. For his sake, I hope I'm wrong....

Someone will take a flyer on him - Royce White got picked mid-teens with illness concerns, and Anderson can actually shoot and play closer to perimeter.

It just seems to me that after you get past the first 15 or so players in this draft, there's just a bunch of blah. Anderson is kind of a square peg, but he's really skilled and I do think that some front office will believe they've got the system to use him.

@AlexKennedyNBA: Jimmer Fredette finishes with 24 points (9-14 from field, 6-8 from three). The trade deadline is in a week - this should increase his value.
