A team that is pretty much complete could really use jimmer more than us. If we had and kind of strong defense and ball handling at either guard position, jimmer could help us more. As it stands anytime jimmer is, no matter who his backcourt running mate is we are very weak on defense. Add a shot blocker and a defensive pg with passing skills and jimmer becomes valuable asset to us off the bench for 12-15 min a game. As it stands the other two players we need are more pressing and would probably have to include jimmer to acquire.
Two years from now if/when we have those two players we will be wishing for jimmer back.
A team that would benefit from having Jimmer on the roster 1) already has good ballhandling at 1 or 2 other positions, 2) has good defense at 3-4 other positions, 3) does not need a creative point guard. I'm looking only at likely and possible playoff teams who could use outside shooting. Non-playoff teams can bid on him in the offseason if they so choose. There's still the option of a non-playoff team looking for a minor salary dump, but the Kings aren't really wanting to acquire more long-term salary right now.
1) San Antonio. Always looking for floor spreaders and bench points. He would do well in Pop's system as both a high character guy and a guy who can feed off Ginobli, Duncan, and Bellinelli. Basically would play the Gary Neal role from last year.
2) OKC. He would be the replacement for Fisher who has been pretty bad for about 5 years now. Once Westbrook came back, he would be out of the rotation, though.
3) Memphis. Memphis needs a backup point guard and three point shooting. Unfortunately, they need their backup point guard to be a creative type. It's not an ideal fit, but Jimmer might be able to fill that Jerryd Bayless role from last year. Jimmer running off Marc Gasol screens would be deadly.
4) Clippers. Reddick 2.0 playing off Crawford and injury insurance for Collison. No immediate need for his services, but he would add more ranged help to the team off the bench.
5) Knicks. Woodson still prefers a 1 in 4 out offense which suits Jimmer perfectly. His point guards have been pretty abysmal, with the sole exception of Prigioni who is very old. Arguably, Jimmer's defense would be the best of any of their point guards.
6) Miami. Another perimeter oriented offensive team. As long as he was playing with one of James or Wade, Jimmer would help the team. For that reason, we should not trade him to Miami.
7) Chicago. You just can't keep Chicago down. They may have to blow up the team and fire Thibodeau to pull off the tank at this point. If they're making another postseason push, they could use more floor spreaders and especially a combo guard to run with Rose late in games to keep defenses honest. I don't know if Jimmer would see the floor with Thibodeau, though.
8) Nets. Jason Terry has been pretty bad this year. Shaun Livingston has been less bad, but still bad. The biggest problem here is that the Nets need bench scoring, but they lack creators at other positions. Another okay, but not great fit.
