Kings vs Warriors - Summer League Game 2

It's like some of you guys want Ben to fail. I don't get it.

Tyreke is gone. We should have kept him, we didn't - get over it. Move on.

And this is coming from a guy who said that he didn't want us drafting Ben and thought we had better options left on the board.
Yeah i am getting the same feeling. And I hope people know the poor performance Kevin Durant put up in his first game - turned out OK.

I see the Chicken Littles are out in full force today.

The fact of the matter is that McLemore is primarily an off-the-ball scorer. With practically the entire roster auditioning for an NBA job, its not exactly a setting conducive to tracking McLemore's off the ball movement. He's made some nice moves so far and has shown better ballhandling ability than he did in the last game. One time he made a nice up and under layup and the other he got in position for a floater which he missed. He's been working hard off the ball all game but its pointless if his teammates aren't going to give him the ball in good position.

Fact of the matter is he's not primarily an iso guy, so he's not going to look good in this setting. Put him next to Cousins with Vasquez feeding him the ball, he's going to look worlds different. Put away the pitchforks, sheesh.

careful now, I pointed that out earlier today and was called a cry baby :p

Still too early to tell if his shooting will come around, but I stand by my skillset analysis from last game, and I stand by my concern at the front office jumping around thinking they had drafted Lebron on draft day.
Agree with everything. I think ranadive and PDA are getting a heat check with his performances so far.

Hall of Famer
I def don't want him fail. I was hoping for the next coming. But this is an utter disappointment. Travis outlaw is smiling right now he is no longer worst player on the team.

Would appreciate it if guys like you would stop bringing Evans up and then telling others to get over it and move on. Tyreke has hardly even been discussed here other than by those who are "anti-Evans". You want people to get over Tyreke stop bringing him up in the first place when nobody's even talking about him.

Two issues, one which may resolve, one which may not.

The one which may resolve is this: everything you said sounds reasonable...except I am pretty sure that he was missed every single catch and shoot jumper he has taken thus far in Summer League. All of them. I am going to stick with my "he has a rep as a shooter, he'll probably come around" tact for now, but fact is you were implying he's failing because he can't go 1 on 1, when in fact he's also failing at doing the very thing you say he's going to do during the season.

The one that may not resolve is this: I raised this some days ago, but the thing is that if you are nothing but a catch and shoot off the ball guy who can also occasionally get an alley oop or break on the dunk, then you are a lot closer to Nick Young than you are to being a star. That was the curiosity of all the hopping around on draft day, and there certainly hasn't been any evidence to the contrary so far. You can see the form on the shot suggesting that will come around. But there are very few signs of the rest of it. As I've said I watch summer league for skillsets, not production. And the skillset is worrisome.

I don't want Ben to fail. I want him to go better than 3-24 on jumpers in the Summer League. And so far, I'm not getting what I want.
Put him in a proper setting that fits the player he currently is and you'll see a much better player playing within his elements.

He's an off the ball player and a system role player at this stage of his young career - he needs to play off other players, and needs to play in a proper system with set plays and decent cohesive ball movement.

He has none of that here. Ofcourse he won't shine when he can't create for himself too much _right now_

Again, I am not the biggest McLemore fan by any stretch, and expressed my concerns when we picked him as far as people saying he'll be an All-Star etc - but the kid's floor is gonna be a decent starting SG in the league - he is too athletic and too good a shooter and too young not to be that, so I don't get the "The sky is falling, he is a bust" talks going on.

I don't mean to reference Reke as much as the type of player he represents, but we're seeing the challenges when you don't have a guy that can create his own offense on a team. Our current roster lacks this and while having a focus like cuz helps and a distributer like Vasquez, we are going to run into big offensive problems this year if we don't address it.

Seeing as I haven't watched the games I can't really comment on his performance or what I think of his future in the league. But I will say this. We drafted him to be a star, possibly the #2 guy next to Cousins. If his game is so "limited" in that he needs to play off of other players and needs to play in a proper system yadayadayadayada and doesn't shoot well in summer league then the very early signs point towards him not being a star. Remember that whether a player is a "bust" or not very often depends on the expectations that have been (rightly or wrongly) placed on said player. That's why Michael Beasley and Jimmer are labelled as busts but Patty Mills is labelled as a great bench/ energy guy. IMO if McLemore only turns out to be a "decent starting SG" then this offseason would have been a failure seeing as we more or less hedged our future for the next few years on him becoming a star. All hypotethicals here, I have no idea how good he'll be as I haven't seen him play.

I don't remember McLemore getting any clean looks this game. In fact, its the most distinct difference from this game and the last is that passing seems to have flown out the window. A lot of that can be attributed to Ray all of a sudden pounding the air out of the ball.

As a critical poster myself, I think we should be careful not to get too nasty regarding our rook. It detracts from the more constructive dialogue and just fuels the anti chicken little crowd.
