Seems Kings still stumble around too much whenever opponent throws zone at them. In last game Pelicans were in and out of zone throughout entire game. RayMac was befuddled when attacking the zone which was surprising. Possibly because he was so intent on getting ball into Big Cuz even as double team collapsed on him late in the clock down low.
What to do? First, PG for Kings (whoever is in) needs to recognize it and yell out ZONE! in case some players are not quickly adjusting. Attacking a zone 101 is best with much less dribbling, more passing since zone can't react as quick to sharp side-to-side passes as they can just pounding the rock. One of the reasons teams go to so much zone against Kings is lack of consistent outside shooting. Unless you can shoot over top the zone you will continue to see it night in and night out. Kings still must prove they have such consistent deep or even mid-range shooting threats. Otherwise, ball needs to go into Cuz at high or low post so he can deal as obviously primary offensive threat on the team. Zone will often break off (or just break apart) with a double on him which can open up cutters into lane or shooters hopefully squared up, ready. I can't believe how some Kings react exact opposite of what is taught in most basic basketball school (see link) on how to attack a zone. Pass first, pass often, no picks necessary, shoot over the top, get inside via the pass and attack from high and low post. Here's 7th grade basketball coaches clipboard which maybe Malone should put up on Kings locker room bulletin board
