I didn't say I would do it; I said I think you'd have to listen to it. I wouldn't just straight hang up the phone like I would for, say, a Thompson for Markieff Morris trade.
This makes it next to impossible for the Kings to sign. The only team that can claim him off waivers is the Sixers. Who knows what they will do.
Beyond that, he enters free agency and can sign with any team that has cap space, which the Kings do not (barring some serious salary dump moves.) In a lot of ways, I think this is a good thing as it ties PDA's hands. I was all in favor of Smith before the Rudy trade, but now I think JT is the superior fit for team needs, as strange as that is to say.
Edit: I was wrong regarding his contract. Assuming the sixers don't pick him up, he can sign anywhere for vet minimum and Detroit still has to pay the contract. That means Kings are still in the mix.
