When I hear Napear come out and say that the Kings would like to trade Martin, and that Martin is very weak mentally, well, the end is near. He's not going to be saying that unless he gets the wink wink nod nod from someone in management. It may be the trade deadline, or it may be the summer, but it's highly probable it's going to happen.

Because two guards positions filled with no playmaker won't never work. Never. I'm with you that more patience is needed because he's value is at its lowest. But if Martin stays, he'll only be useful filling a Jamal Crawford-type 6th man role.

Thats a double negative, thats means it will work. dont know if English is your 2nd language so i wont criticize. but who are you to say that wont work, and who are you to say that Tyreke isnt a playmaker.

i like the idea of K-mart coming off the bench as 6th man. Westphal might want to experiment with it the rest of the season since this year is basically shot

I have it on good authority Petrie is actively in contact with Boston.

Okay. Given all the chatter on the topic that's entirely possible. But I will note that's of course a very easy claim to make on the internet, and you're probably going to take heat on it until/unless it happens.

Oh Please...has anyone in here heard of PATIENCE. If every GM only gave 15+ games for a player to fit in with his new team it would be chaos. Now i never said i was opposed to trading Martin, but trading him right now because "he doesnt fit" doesnt make any sense. 1. his value is at its lowest. 2. since we are not competeing for playoffs why not let the Martin/Evans experiment go through the rest of the season before judging. (if Martin causes us to IMPLODE, hey top draft pick:p). 3. We dont have another true SHOOTING GUARD 4. Only team really pursueing Martin is Dallas

The rest of this year should be used to evaluate how the talent we have works together.

It's not a matter of letting it take time to work... In order for the players (i.e. Martin and Evans) to fit together we would have to ask one of them to change the way they actually play the game.. Which isn't going to happen, and if they were to try we would get a lot of the games we have seen both Martin, and Evans play when they are trying to do something different. You saw Martin trying to get others involved and have a 5pt game... You see Evans getting others involved trying to become a pass first PG and he scored only a few points, had 9 assists and 5 tos. If the players kept their games and it would work I am all for it, but at this point we know what we have and we know it's not going to ever mesh.

yah exactly, martins not going to all of a sudden return to his super effiecient form.. There is just too many distractions; trade rumors, bad team chemistry, help needed at the 4 & 5, fans calling him out, kings losing..

I Believe his best days in Sacramento are behind him... Its not his fault.. its not the teams or coaches fault.. its just how things fell into place.. life isnt a game of tetris where every block can fall in place. Sometimes things just simply dont fit...

And its sad.. cuz Martin helped make me the kings fan I am today.. He has done alot for this franchise for being the player that he is. props to him for that.

But lets be serious... his value isnt going to get higher then this.

The skinny akward kid we all grew to love is most likely on his last stand with the kings right now. But the positive is if he is moved, things will be better for us and better for him..

Yeah but isn't that what you would get with a pass first pg anyway? I just don't get the logic.

Huh? What you get with a pass first PG in most cases is just more offense overall far beyond simple assist numbers. How many guys has Steve Nash gotten into the 3pt shooting contest that barely deserve to be there?

Evans passing doesn't look or work the same at all.

Awesome post. You're right about Grant getting the insider information. Did he say that on the radio? I'm suprised he called Kevin mentally weak, that's not like him, things must be really bad...

Anyone think we can land Kendrick Perkins and filler for him? Someone mentioned it on Grant's show...something like Kenny/Martin/Nocioni for Perkins/Allen. I would be absolutely thrilled for that trade.

It has much more to do with Martin's inability to play second fiddle than his game not meshing with Tyreke. He's shooting lousy. Pittifully lousy. That has nothing to do with meshing or his inherent inability to play with Tyreke. If he could just put the ball in the basket, all would be solved. But he can't. And it has absolutely nothing to do with Evans. It has to do with the voices inside his head.

If the numbers work for that Perk/Allen trade, that's a very solid deal for the Kings. The key, beyond the obvious benefits of having a viable option at center and moving huge contracts, is getting rid of Noc and Martin. The stage is cleared for the Donte and Omri show, and you get a great, great veteran presence (and teacher) for the rest of the year in Allen.

A young Ray Allen would be an almost perfect piece to sit next to Reke. Too bad we're about 5 years late to the party.

I agree. The Kings only veteran presence is Nocioni, Garcia and Martin. Everyone else is young or irrelevant.

Most importantly, Ray is a winner. Jesus Shuttlesworth can hopefully teach these young guys how to win.

At the very least, he can hit a clutch shot in the 4th quarter (or whichever quarter the Kings decide to take off that day).

Actually young Ray wouldn't work too much better than Kevin (somewhat better, was pretty good at creating for teamates at his peak). And old Ray...its hard to imagine him actually landing and stayinghere. He'a an old vet, many time All Star, and playing for a title in Boston. to get dumped to a team with the 3rd or 4th worst record in the league would be pretty brutal, and frankly we don't need him or anybody eating up our kids minutes. That's just swapping problems. More likely you would get a third team involved or maybe even just buy him out and let him go sign wiht another contender, althoguh that sort of move would not make you very popular around the league since it could so dramatically change the balance of power.

I don't know about voices in his head, but it is certainly a personal player problem. There is no chemistry issues that could cause wide open shots to be missed. I mean a wide open shot is a wide open shot no matter who passes you the ball right? Kevin has a problem between his ears but is it confidence? Is it the desire to play somewhere else? Is it jealousy? Who knows. But if he cant play with this team he is useless to us. So get what you can for him in trade I guess. But get value in return because he IS a good shooter, he is just in a slump.

He has proven over an NBA season he is a good shooter. Shooters dont forget how to shoot. He is still a valuable commodity. But only as a specialist. As a bench player who comes in and gives you 10-15 points. A bench player with no pressure on him to perform as a starter and be a good all around player. A specialist that doesn't play defense or rebound. That is really what he is at this point. And with the years of service he has, that is all he will probably ever be. Sorry Kings fans, but that is really who Kevin Martin is, a sharpshooting specialist who doesn't play defense. Not a savior or a super star. Not even an allstar. Just a shooter.

ironically enough the kings played pretty well against the raptors when tyreke ran the offense instead of trying to score... he had like 9 assists in 3 quarters of play... only ended up with 9 but thats another story. out of the two you would think that tyreke would be able to change his game, if he cant do that now then we will have problems. i would assume that a rookie would be more willing to try than a vet with a scorers mentality...

I agree with most of your post, but the bolded statement has been repeated too many times by many posters on this board, and it is simply false. Chemistry issues hurt players' confidence. They cause players to feel lost and think that their teammates don't have their back if they make mistakes. This causes them to think too much about those open shots, and that inevitably leads to slumping field goal percentages, as we have been witnessing in the last month. If you don't believe me, go to the nearest basketball court and take ten shots from the top of the key. Then take ten more shots, but this time imagine you're part of a team, and really think about each of these shots and convince yourself that it's absolutely crucial that you make these shots, otherwise your status on the team will quickly deteriorate. See in which set you scored more.

Here is a comment on the above video that makes a great point, imo.

His scoring is unimpressive if he gives up just as much to whoever he's guarding...which is what happens.

Im sure they are aware of his slump..but its a slump..when he is over it, he is a great asset to any team

No, no he's not.

Newsflash: Kevin Martin is not THAT good. Not universal positive good. In fact the one thing he does is highly disruptive (shoot) and it requires careful planning to make it work. The Lakers would have no use for him. Neither would Atlanta. He'd mess up the surprisingly good thing they have going in Memphis. Etc. Its not a universal thing. Right place, right fit, yeah -- if you need what he brings and can compensate for his deficiencies, he;s good at what he does. But wrong place and wrong fit and they, and he, are going to have similar problems to what is going on here. He needs the ball to shoot, a lot. He does not know how to play basketball otherwise. Been getting the ball, a lot, all the way back to high school at least. If that ball is already spoken for, its a bad fit. Furthermore Kevin a) does not handle the ball well enough to be a PG, and b) is too scrawny to be a SF, so is really a one position player -- pretty much a pure SG. So again, if those minutes are spoken for, it does not fit. Kevin is neither good enough nor versatile enough to be a universal, and his speciality is the one thing you actually can have too much of -- scorers, guys who need shots.

People have just been fed this ridiculous hype about Kevin so long by the Kings advertising staff when they ahd nothing else to seize on that it long since left reality in its distant wake.

Just FYI..because u hate Kevin, doesnt require everyone else on this board too..soo if you think ur right? good for you...but i happen to think im right so there is really no need to attack me or anyone else everytime something positive is said about Kevin.

Q: What do the following players have in common?
Quincy Douby
Mikki Moore
John Salmons
Brad Miller
Kenny Thomas
Beno Udrih
Shelden Williams
Andres Nocioni
Desmond Mason
Sean May
Spencer Hawes
Jason Thompson
Kevin Martin

A: They have all done a turn within the past 18 months as Whipping Boy Du Jour at KingsFans.com ("The Best Fans!").

Know what else they have in common? They ALL deserved it at those respective times.

Have some self respect man. I keep waiting for somebody to post a "Leave Britney Alone!" style video for Kevin on youtube.

This is about the idea that Kevin is a universal tonic -- distressingly humbling as it might be, who posted the idea was not relevant to my response. The idea that Kevin is some universal tonic is at the base of at least some of the confusion and distress about our currrent predicament. The idea doesn't jibe with the reality we are all watching, and so then its off to find 1000 excuses why it isn't working, when the problem is with the underlying idea itself. Kevin is NOT a universal tonic. A fit everything asset. He's just not. Once you realize that, and painful as it may be to accept, understand the reasons WHY he is not a universal asset, all of a sudden what has been happening to us makes sense. And it makes sense without anybody truly having to be a villain. A square peg does not fit in the round hole, and its neither the peg's nor the hole's "fault", nor the fault of the people who realize the peg and hole weren't made for each other. It just is.

I think the word "Attack" might be a bit dramatic here.

Dang keep it on the down low Brick, we trying to trade him here!

i guess every team should just ask Brick before making a trade to see if it "will fit".

you guys have to realize some people() on this messege board are as stubborn as a donkey with their opinions. some people will just hate and rip on a player to their grave, or in some cases even root intentially for a certain player to do bad, just to justify their bashing. doesn't mean their right(even if their a MOD), just means its their opinion.

theres an old saying theres LIES, DAMN LIES, and then theres STATISTICS.
