YOUR Draft Board for the Kings

Of course he didn't play much the first 3 years. Look at who was in front of him. It's kind of amazing he can come in and average 9/6/3 with basically no experience. He'll be better than that in the NBA. I mean this was the first year he actually was able to get time.

Totally understand where you are coming from, but when people question his heart, and say he's no defensive stopper than the red flag goes up for me. Esp when we are looking for people with qualities he lacks.

I'm still not sold on his rebounding abilities.

I'm curious. Have you ever watched this dude play?? Or do you just go by stats and what you read. Scouting reports aren't always accurate, you know.

Armstrong will be a freakin steal at the 19th pick. No one said he was a defensive stopper, but he did average three blocked shots a game and altered more shots in just 28 minutes. He also averaged 2 offensive rebounds a game. His offensive game is also better than advertised. He's a decent finisher and can hit the mid-range shot on occassion. And he is a hard worker, always working to get better. I don't see what you have against this guy. He fills our biggest needs.

Im curious. Did you read my above post that said I watched him play?

Seriously. He lacks everything we are looking for, and I think if it wasn't for him playing at UCONN he would go undrafted. That's how bad I think he is.

This is some info about Hilton Armstrong:

Ukraine forward Oleksiy Pecherov had a very strong workout against Hilton Armstrong, one scout described it as Pecherov absolutely destroyed Armstrong.

Do you want this "steal" in Sacramento ??? He cannot play even against Pecherov !!!! I don't think that he will really help us.

IIRC they made a mistake when they made that and fixed it. They ended up saying both players had a good workout. Draft Express>Draft.net anyway.

Anybody can say they watched someone play. Sorry but I just have a hard time believing that you've seen him play more than 2-3 times from the way you talk about his game. I may be wrong, but thats just how I feel.

He lacks everything were looking for? He was one of the best shotblockers in the NCAA. What do you want?? Another B Miller?

I have never heard about it ... may be it was mistake .. you can never trust any draft source :), but anyway, I do not want him in Sacromento.

Yes, we need PF/C more then PG because Miller is too soft and nobody can block shots here. So, I would draft Sene but it is a big risk I think.

Ugh.. I have seen him play for the last 3 or so years. Total of about 15-25 times. He is inconsistant, sometimes I don't even notice he is out there when he is. Sometimes I do notice and it is all for the wrong reasons (him looking lost). He isn't a good defender that can sometimes block, or alter a shot because he is in the right place at the right time. He can throw down a nice dunk or two, and hit a 10-12 foor jumper but no post moves to speak of.

Three blocks in college don't amount to 3 blocks in the NBA. With his defense he probally wont even be getting more than a block, to a block and a half a game. His 6 rebounds a game were weak at the college level. For a big guy he should rebound a lot better.

Bottom line, the guy is going to be a project and has about a 5-10% chance of becoming a "roleplayer" in the league. If we are destined to take a project with our pick it might as well be Saer Sene. Armstrong will be a bust. Guarantee! I will bow to you and tell you he is not if he pans out, or plays more than 5 minutes a game (or more than 50 garbage minute games) this year, and next.

I would rather take Justin Williams (only seen him once or twice) if we were just looking for a shot blocker.

Actually I thought that to draft Gray is a good idea for Kings. I thought it would be fun to see a big man in our team, but he is not available in this draft.

May be we should draft PG because there are some nice options for us. Of course we need a big guy but I prefer to see Rondo or Lowry in Kings' jersey instead of Boon or Armstrong

With the big men that are going to be available at our spot we might as well draft a PG, or a tweener.

1. Hilton Armstrong: 6-11 ; 240 (C)

2. Jordan Farmar: 6-2 ; 171 (PG)

3. Sergio Rodriguez: 6-3 ; 180 (PG)

4. Saer Sene: 7-0 ; 237 (C)

5. Kosta Perovic: 7-2 ; 242 (C)

^^ You have to factor in how quickly they can contribute though...Sene isn't a better athlete by the way...

i agree with walker60. This is a pick we need to get something out of this season. We aren't building for the future like some teams, we need someone to come and block shots NOW so we can make a run before Bibby gets too old or Artest leaves.

so Armstrong can dunk, hit the 12 foot jumper and block shots good and pass a little, but not great rebounder and defense is suspect. Hmmm we had a guy that fit that profile play for us and turned our franchise around. His name was Chris Webber. LOL i know Armstrong will not be the next Webber. Seriously i would like to trade our pick and Hart for a backup pg and pick up Melvin Ely and some undrafted project big man. but if we just have to draft somebody id take Armstrong as a conservative pick and Saer as a gamble that could turn out to be awesome.

1. Hilton Armstrong
2. Josh Boone
3. Saer Sene
4. Guillermo Diaz
5. Daniel Gibson

Bottom line: I hope we draft big, because thats the smart thing to do with where we are at. Draft big-sign small; Bobby Jackson.(and PLEASE Geoff, if you must draft a PG, dont take 'Spanish Chocolate'...we dont need another 'project' who cant play defense at this stage in the game)

Voting totals

To see where the community stands in general, I added up all the votes to see who we wanted. The way I did it was taking only the top 5 each person posted and giving each player 5 points for being #1, 4 for being #2..... 1 for begin #5. Here's where we stand so far.

Hilton Armstrong - 53
Saer Sene - 35
Sergio Rodriguez - 24
Guillermo Diaz - 23
Quincy Douby - 15
Shawne Williams - 14
Kyle Lowry - 11
Jordan Farmar - 10
Thabo Sefolosha - 8
Alexander Johnson - 7
Josh Boone - 6
Joel Freeland - 5

Every other player had less than 5 votes.

The Bobcats made a qualifying offer to Melvin Ely so that eliminates one of the bigs we could have acquired. I think you draft big and sign small. B Jax would love to come back and if not I think a backup PG would be easier to find.

You deal for big AND small.... trading and free-agency. Geoff does most of his work through trades, and I think the interior defense will come from at least trading, and hopefully FA (back-up) or draft (Back-up). PG, ditto. There are plenty of bigs who we can get through trading, ultimately think we can only get a bench big in free-agency, because of the value of the bigger name bigs there.

You don't just stick to free-agency and the draft, you look in all areas of acquirement to improve the team. That's obviously what Geoff's done and will do again this off-season.

Ely's not a major guy, he most likely would of been coming off the bench for us, or maybe starting depending on KT going away, and what Muss would of wanted to do between SAR/Ely. No big loss. He's a bottom big option for us, and there are still plenty of back-up big options for us.

As said, we probably don't have a shot at the more quality FA bigs due to their value, and what becomes of Brad Miller? That has to be taken into account before thinking about signing a Pryzbilla or Nazr, who are not looking to be back-ups, nor should they.

I really don't think we will find a big man in this draft worth picking. Look for us to draft a guy like Mardy Collins.

I'd love that, I like him a lot. I'll support him where-ever he ends up, as well.

Just not sure we actually do so because of Garcia/Martin/possibly Monia already here.

We have been saying that every year it seems. Than Petrie goes out and;

"With the ## pick in the NBA draft the Sacramento Kings select XXX XXXXXX a 6'7 guard/forward from xxxxxxxxxx"

Look for it to happen again :D

I haven't.

But have been this time for the draft. Would I be disappointed? No. The new swingman can be used as a trade asset or actually will become a part of the team. With Monia likely being traded or sent somewhere. This draft is loaded with intriguing wings, I like the sound of a lot of them... Ager/Brown/Collins/Shawne Williams/Sefolosha/Tucker/Gansey/Bobby Jones (R2 pick, but I like him a lot), etc.

Either way, it'd benefit the team.
