Would Anyone Be Interested in Karl Malone

Purple Reign

Starter
I mean he is still out there!! I think the upside in bringing Malone in is:

1. He brings in more leadership, and an urgency to win a championship.

2. He is the ideal backup to Chris at the 4. If he demands to start, do not bring him here. The only championship contender he can start for is Miami.

3. He gives a low post defensive presence and rebounding off the bench. He may not be the offensive option he once was, but the Kings do not need another offensive option anyway.

4. You keep him away from San Antonio.

The downside:

1. Microfracture knee surgery. Enough said. Although I am encouraged by Jason Kidd's progress.

2. His desire to play major minutes as a starter. And wanting to play a major role in the offense.

3. Money. Is Malone looking to break the bank in a multi year deal? Or is he looking to ride the gravytrain like he did in LA? Or would he be willing to take the veteran minumum for 1/2 a season for an opportunity to contribute to winning a world title.

I think that Malone would be a really good addition to our bench. Not only for his game but also for his presence.
I think the concern regarding him wanting to be scoring option shouldn't really be a problem. He pretty much didn't do that while in LA.
Same would go for the money. It doesn't seem to be a priority on his list.
The only thing that would be of question is whether he would want to come off the bench.
Would he want to go to Miami instead?

It would make me nauseas to have him on the Kings. What a sell out.

That said, it would also unquestionably up our chances of winning the whole enchilada if he were to arrive with the right attitude.

His name has never been attached to the Kings though, other than by us. Miami rumors, where he'd fit, San Antonio rumors. No real Kings rumors.

At this point, I would have to question his ability to function at a level that would even be of any help to us. Look what Webber had to go through in order to get back to even a 60% playing level. I doubt if Kings fans would be any less forgiving to RA and the staff if they got Malone, and then messed with the team to get him enough playing time in real games to get him into something resembling game shape.

If anything, I see him going to Miami as a final gesture to Kobe and the Lakers.

This is my opoin: Nobody wants him now because he is proabably still injured. If they sign him he might not play because of his injury.

ANother reason is if they sign him he might retire and they still have to pay for him until his contract runs out. So it wont be a smart decision if a team decides to sign him.

With all the respect...

No I wouldn't.

He may be a veteran, but his knee is as week as Chris Webbers was when he got out of surgery. :P

I can't believe you guys. How would Malone hurt us? I'd rather have Malone than Ostertag!

Tag clogs up the paint and can block shots and rebounds. Malone's coming off knee surgery and we dont even know if he could play right away. Why would you rather have Malone?

he does a good job of playing physical defense against both duncan and garnett. and because he's been a good player for so many years, the refs allow him to play this way. that is what he could bring to this team come playoff time.

whether his knees are up to it is another story.

If you want Malone right now, it's because of his name and reputation and past performance and NOT because of how he might perform for the Kings.

He hasn't even stepped on a court since his surgery. We learned first-hand that simply having a medical release isn't enough to ensure peak performance. A player coming back from knee surgery requires a lot of time to get back into full swing. Even then, there are no guarantees he'll be able to perform.

Tag, on the other hand, has already filled a gap a lot of us said was one of our major needs. He blocks shots, he gets boards AND he clogs the paint and alters shots even if he doesn't actually block them.

You might be willing to have vintage Malone more than Tag, but I don't think the current Malone has anything to hang your hopes on other than his name. If he CAN come back, cool. I certainly wouldn't want to get rid of Tag and then find out Malone just can't do it any more.

Malone wouldn't replace Tag (different roles), but he would sure in hell be an upgrade over Darius playing on one leg and with both his hands tied behind his back.

Better yet, he's free. There's no real downside if you were going to sign Malone. Bring him in, if his knee is good this is the same guy who averaged 13 and 9 last year, and 20 and 8 the year before. With the passing skills and jumper to actually run our stuff. If the knee is balky, you still have Tag and Darius. No real reason NOT to do it. Except for the ick factor.

If he could get Stockton to come out of retirment and join him... sure. But hey the point is moot, Malone has been clear about who he wants to play with and Sac is never on the list. Best fit is SA where he woud likely start on a team that is top contender for the championship. Not sure why he would come to Sac to paly behind Webb for a team with less of a chance (as per comonly held belife). Miami is another stong option for him, and like I said Sac is not even on his radar.

Normally I would say Yes, but with his injury I cant say yes. If he can play like last year, then yes. HE SHUT DOWN TIM DUNCAN AND KEVIN GARNETT to an extent, Doing it at his age is crazy. If he can produce the defense like last year and just chip in some points and assists, then get him now.

he'd never come here, he'd rather ride tim duncan's coattails ( or someone elses) to a title this year.

that being said, if he could prove he was healthy, jackoff factor aside, he did do a good job on duncan and garnett in the PO'slast year, so having that off the bench would be a GREAT thing.

i say no. actually i say hell no.

Sorry but I would love to have a healthy Karl Malone on this team. He would provide leadership, experience, and toughness. His rebounding and interior defense would help tremendously off the bench and his passing would just make him a natural fit on this team. With his experience, he wouldn't have much trouble learning the offense and he could also play a bit of center when teams go small on us. Can you imagine Webber and Malone playing side by side? He runs the floor hard and sets great screens. In terms of chemistry I doubt that he would be a problem as he was basically the reason why the Lakers didn't implode earlier on last season.

Ofcourse this is all assuming that he is healthy, but I think the Kings could truly benefit from aquiring Malone. I think it's a perfect scenario for Malone as well where he can help a team win a championship without "riding coattails," because let's face it, even if we did pick up Malone, folks would still think that we don't have a chance to win a championship.

I don't want Malone...REGARDLESS of what he brings or what he doesn't bring...i don't want to see they guy in a kings uniform sitting on our bench

i really don't care what anybody has to say to that...i can't stand the guy

period.

A different way to ask the question is this: How many of you would like to see a boken down Malone get a ring for sitting on the Kings bench?

This is a good point. Malone is past the "helping a team win a ring days"...IMO.

No thanks! I just as soon he not get one of our rings. Let him have someone elses....if they will take him.
