Wondering if anyone wants to score

At some point someone on the wings needs to want the ball.

That has always been the difference between the Storm and the Monarhcs. Everyone wants to pass but nobody wants to score. Just my thoughts..

I'm sure your right , many times the ball just keeps moving. I'd like to see Maio...let it fly, since she doesn't get much playing time. She's a decent defender & a very good passer. However every player should want to create and score. Ticha also gets so deep in the paint & then passes? Imagine what happens when she tries to score...the ball has a chance to fall or she can draw a foul. We all know she's had a great % at the line.

As for Haynie, Lawson & Powell...let it rip...shoot, drive to the basket, assist on the run...be agressive. DeMaya, Yo & Olympia can handle the inside game.

I'm sure the coaches have a grip the offense & defence...our players just have to make it happen.

fair trade

It's almost as if the Monarchs need to learn the running/passing offense of the Kings and the Kings need to learn the smothering defense of the Monarchs.

They both have their strengths, but.....

That was the biggest sign I've seen recently of the struggles this team had last year, everybody was more willing to pass than shoot, much more so than they were in the first half of the season. Not sure if its because they are starting to see more zone now they are looking to pass more to try to break it but the offense is just starting to look clunkier.

That was another impressive turnaround in that game. I love the fact that when they want to, they can flick a switch collectively and start playing some wicked defense - I just wish they had a switch that allowed them to consistently make their FTs more often and to be able to consistently execute when they are coming from behind late in a game. That's another area that needs to improve for them to get better over the course of the season.

But glad they got another successful road trip under their belts and have a chance to come home and feast on the home cooking for a little while while everybody else has roadtrips from hell.

Again???

I guess we are back to someone wanting to score from the wings again.

To Nicole's credit she hit a big bucket to close us to 2 points but the Wings just really didn't want to shoot the ball alot.

The Comets really were aggressive on the wings. This game was very fun to watch actually.

I have just come to the conclusion that Nicole has to shoot the ball early and often. I believe her shots will fall if she just takes them. It also may be time to insert Kara back into the starting line-up.

Absolutely no disrespect to Newton. She is having a fabulous season, but we need points early, because when we get tired it is hard for us to hit jumpers later in the game.

It was an interesting game.

There were quite a few repeats to this team's previous L column performances. I didn't feel like watching the game when I got home since I already knew how it played out so I'll just take your word for it that this game actually had some entertaining moments. I'll also not try to belabor that point in the game where the M's caught a gift opportunity to snag 3pts from the FT line and flat out refused to take it. I just will not harp on this at all....except to say... ;) that in these three losses on the road to teams chasing them in the standings, the M's have left opportunities on the table to take (or re-take) control of games they let get ridiculously out of hand. I'm impressed with the fact that they can flick a switch and unleash some wicked defense on somebody in the 2nd half - and have said switch flick get them back into a game they looked like they were going to get pasted by at least 20 something points. But their late game execution is still shaky in some respects. Even in that game against Minnesota on their first road trip was like that, they just got bailed out by a video replay. Missed FTs, turnovers, inability to stay patient and get (or convert) good looks at the basket. I gotta see some improvement here on this in the 2nd half of the season....oh, and maybe for them not to go on the road and let somebody drop a 20 spot on them in the first place before they figure out the game has started. That might be square one.

Even as hard to digest as last night's loss was and its implications re: the standings, they have a chance to come home and still get comfy in the W column with 5 straight home games. I just hope at some point they can find a killer instinct on e-bay or something ---- they really really come in handy for teams wanting to make some noise or raise banners.

It seems like lately, teams have figured out a way to shut down Yolanda. Last night, for example, nobody could even get the ball in to her. They all sag down on the post. Yet DeMya is able to break free and score. The difference this year has been that when the defense sags down, our outside shooters have been able to make them pay. The Monarchs were just cold last night, a bad shooting night. They shot poorly in New York too, but NY doesn't have Sheryl Swoopes.

I'm not too worried about the collapse last night. They managed to *almost* steal this one when nothing seemed to be going right. They should have lost by like 20 points with the way they were shooting the ball (33%), but they gritted it out and came back with a shot to win it. Hell, if that K-Law three ball had gone in, we could have unfairly stolen one from Houston who had outplayed us for almost the entire game.

Time for the big homestand. I hope we get some nice crowds. I'm sick of seeing these pathetic crowds on TV. Less than 5,000 in Houston last night for the battle of the top two West teams? That's not right. Time to go on a little run and give ourselves some breathing room in the standings.

Back to your point about Newton Luv13, I thought Whiz subbed her out pretty quick with Kara yesterday. I think he knows that sometimes Kara's offense is more important than Chelsea's defense. And really, Kara should be our starter. It's good to have Kara and Nicole on the floor at the same time, more options forces the defense to lay off our posts a bit.

DeMya continues to be " Kryptonite " to Sheryl Swoopes. Thank goodness Sheryl is " Kryptonite " to everyone else in the league!

it was an entertaining game to watch even in the scoreless first three and a half minutes of " defense class " in the early minutes of the first half. it was nice to see a regular season game seem like it meant something to both teams on the floor. looks like my prediction of a WCF of Houston & Sacramento is intact thus far...remind Koz & Krista for me!
