Woj says Gay will exercise option and re-sign with Kings

Nice! Just saw that and rushed in to post it myself. It's from Woj, so I'll assume it's not jumping the gun.

The other nice thing is the idea that extension talks are expected to occur. That's kind of how I saw the best case scenario for the Kings - get Rudy in at the high dollar value for one year, and then lock him up long term at the market value.

Domino #1 has fallen. It's an expensive domino to be sure, but now we can enter the draft knowing what our asset list is: We've got Cousins and Gay as our anchors, and we've got McLemore, #8, and IT to keep or tinker with. It's a start!

If he agrees to an extension can they lower his salary this season and spread it out over the contract? For example, can they give him $16.3 million for this season and add the $3 million to be spread out on top of whatever the next 4 years would be? Or is his 19.3 for this season mandatory to be 19.3 for one season?

If its Woj, then take this as a done deal.

And it makes sense about the extension talks too -- although the mere fact we'd mention extension would indicate just how serious we are and have been about him,

but in any case, he's giving us this summer to prove to him that we are going to be something going forward. Yet more reason to expect moves and veteraning up in the next few months.

Great news!! We're gonna win some games next yr and will have a 19mil ender worst case! Rudy brings an entertaining brand of bball... let's see if we can win with him too!

Might clarify the draft a little too. I don't know what Williams fate is. He could be trade bait too...or not. But with Rudy coming back we might not be looking at SFs as much in the draft...if we decide to use the pick.

I Agree. DWill Is trade bait. If we didn't have Rudy, I would want to develop him. Someone will get a quality talent.

They really have got to let IT walk now, Pete will have to be very creative to get this team out of the mediocrity sweepstakes (which will in itself be an improvement, but enough of one?)

It's going to be nice to see what Gay and Cuz can do together over a full year. The PG we choose to run with could be the wild card.

I've said before that one of the things this front office is trying to do is bring people in and show them what this new front office and ownership is all about. Help to shed the past negativity that was associated with the team. Vasquez spoke highly of us, and Gay resigning rather than bolting when he got the chance speaks to that. This is a good sign.

Now Rudy has to do his part and bust his butt to help convince some other free agents to come join him.

Yes, this is all true, but he also has $19million reasons to opt in as well as prove last year with us wasn't a fluke. He puts in another strong year, he's probably looking at a 4/$60 deal or something close to it.

Really glad he let us know before the draft though. At least we have some direction this off-season and aren't totally left in the dark
