WNBA All Star Voting - A Complete Joke!!!

#1
Can somebody tell me how Kara Braxton who is a chronic underachiever the the "W" that is averaging 6.2 points and 6 rebounds a game in all of 17 minutes a night leading all players in the WNBA All Star Balloting.

Please do not tell me this is a popularity contest BECAUSE SHE IS NOT POPULAR!!!! If this was Yo Griffith, a player who is not hardly having a All Star caliber season, but has a body of work to justify such worthiness, I would understand. BUT KARA BRAXTON?????? And spare me that there are no other Centers in the East and that Braxton plays for the World Champs. Tammy Sutton Brown is averaging twice the points that Braxton is and if you are a fan of this league she is twice the player.

As big of a fan I am of this league, I have never liked the All Star Game, festivities and now this farce of a voting process. And this makes me despise Detroit more now than ever. I CAN NOT WAIT TO SMACK THEM ON SATURDAY NIGHT.

It is what it is ....

Somebody in Detroit probably figured out how to punch out a ton of votes ... Even the Monarchs give rewards for voting a lot ... that's the nature of the system, it's not merit based, it's based on who gets the most votes, and fans can vote as often as they can! I agree that the system doesn't select the worthiest players ... although that always creates debate -- who are the worthiest players?

somebody sure had a lot of time in their hands....(looks at kara braxton fanclub president).

I think every center in the east is worthier than her!!!

Tammy Sutton-Brown>Delisha Milton Jones>Chastity Melvin>Margo Dydek>Catherine Krayveld>>>>>>>Kara Braxton

I just can't believe that everyone takes the All Star Game so seriously!

Case in point, the voting started the same week the season started.

I don't even bother to vote anymore...the whole thing is a joke.

I agree that Braxton isn't an All-Star caliber player. But that's what happens when you let the fans vote, and for as many times as possible.

And the Detroit Shock fans have a reputation for putting one of their own players even if the player's stats don't justify it.

EXAMPLE: After the 2004 season ended, Detroit's Swin Cash underwent ACL surgery. Even though she played only one or two games in the '05 regular season prior to the 2005 ASG, the Detroit fans stuffed the ballot box and Swin was voted in. Since the ASG was scheduled at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, there were probably quite a number of UConn fans who voted her in as well.

Hi I was just wondering how do the Monarchs Office know that you are voting for them and I read that they have rewards system, but it only allows me to vote once. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Plain and simply, I don't think the fans should vote for the All-Stars in the WNBA or the NBA. Voting starts way too early, polular players get voted in sometimes regardless of performance or ballot-box stuffing goes on. The last seems to work particularly well in the WNBA.

I gave up on All-Star games a while ago. When someone says so-and-so was an All-Star, like it means they were great and the best, I say, so what. It's become totally meaningless as an indicator of who the best players are in any given year. Are some deserving? Of course, some clearly, but the process just cheapens the value of the award for those who do deserve it

I remember the year Vince Carter was hurt and hadn't played all season. He still got voted to the All-Star team! That just soured me totally.

I look at who the coaches pick. To me that means a whole lot more.

Personally, I think coaches and players only should vote. Maybe sportswriters who cover the WNBA, too. That's it.

Detroit isn't the only team to have that phenomena happen with their balloting, there has been other occasions of weird balloting tricks with players voted to start who didn't start for their own respective teams, another player who also were voted in when they were out with an injury. Conversely the league bent over backwards to give a player a spot when the fans of the host city for the ASG threatened to boycott the game because their allstar worthy player was neither voted in or added by the coaches.

We have an opportunity to stuff the ballot here, get out and get your ballots in tomorrow night. The Sacramento tally may not be reflected in these numbers yet. So I'm not sweating it. I'm sure we found somebody other than Braxton to start for the East...unless this is a reflection of allstar voting sabotage and we West fans REALLLLLLLLLLLY want Braxton in there other than someone else. I'd rather see Braxton that Sutton-Brown perhaps ;), and PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ME WATCH DYDEK.

I'm sure Sac fans will be punching ballots like crazy for the final day of voting tomorrow night...grab a stack folks.

Well that is great...

I kinda bailed on the All-Star thing after the Swin Cash deal myself.

Personally, I would have been too embarrassed to play if I was Swin. I think I posted here that If I were her I would have "a Strained Lumbar" or had "Slight" swelling in my knee. Where I could have partaken in the festivities but allowed someone who actually played that season an opportunity to play.

But If I had any Idea that Braxton could possible start with those numbers, I would have been voting. Also I hope that Someone can grab me about 5000 ballots at the thing tonight. Cause it will be hard for me to get up there. Or Maybe I will see if I can go. I will punch as many ballots as we have there. And tomorrow I will sit at AppleBees and punch away. I will even get off work at 2 so I can get to Arco at 4 and Start punching Ballots.

Bekkah deserves to go. Far More than Ruth Riley and if she gets to go over Bekkah it is our fault.

So I am up for the Punch Party. I will do my part.

Well, Brunson didn't get enough votes to start. :( But I'm sure she'll be named on the reserves.

Congrats to Yo for making the starting lineup. Yes, her stats don't justify it, but she means a lot to a team more than just mere numbers. And besides, this could be her final ASG, so why not?

Sue Bird got enough votes to be on the West's starting team, but it was announced that she will be out for a surgery, so it looks like Coach Boucek will have to replace Sue with someone else to start the game. My guess is San Antonio's Becky Hammon.

Some suprises: Detroit's Kara Braxton was voted in the Eastern squad's starting lineup, which is undoubtedly due to Detroit fans stuffing the ballot. Even more suprising was Indiana's Anna DeForge being voted in the starting East team. According to an Indianapolis Star newspaper report, DeForge was ranked fifth among East guards in fan balloting last week, with 26,867 votes. But she finished 84,498, jumping ahead of Detroit's Katie Smith for the second starting guard spot. Since most of the voting was done via the Internet, it was speculated that DeForge received quite a number of votes from Poland, where she was the MVP in their league over there.

I also would guess that Nancy Lieberman was on her computer all day and all night jamming votes for Anna! :)
