Willie Cauley-Stein

WCS must become JT with better defense. WCS's potential is unreal due to his body, but the chances that Kobe-esque work ethic/obsession coincides with a really optimal body is rare. I don't expect WCS to be a star, but I expect him to get better, develop a jumper, and play his video games.

Well, using the last two games as reference, I think we could safely argue that he's already exceeded those expectations. Very low bar though.

I have a better chance winning ROY he can average 10/10/3 dominate defense won't matter. I love WCS but what Towns has done since preseason shows he's in a class by himself. Towns is winning that and it won't be close he's an MVP type player who will put up numbers this year.

Towns will be better than Anthony Davis. Ya I said it dudes already creating for himself and might be better defender.

When you look at Towns, your looking at the next superstar in the league. Okafor will be good, but he's more of a Jefferson type of player. Take him away from the basket, and he's lost offensively, plus he's an average defender at best. Now I'm sure that like Cousins, he'll improve defensively. But Towns can do every thing Okafor can do offensively, and much more. He's a very good passer and rebounder. He can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. He has a very good 18 foot jumper, and seems to have added the three point shot to his tool box. What makes Towns a star though is that he's a very, very good defender and shot blocker as well.

I watched Willie play along side Towns last season, how well he fit next to him, and thought at the time how similar Towns and Cousins game was. And then my dream came true. Of course my big dream was Towns playing along side of Cousins. That would have been our dream and the league's nightmare.

KAT wanted to roam the perimeter when he first started at UK. Calipari forced him to play in the post, learn how to hold position, add the jump hook and use both hands.
All season the experts kept saying Okafor is the #1 pick. Cal kept promoting Towns as being able to play defense and the league knows he can shoot from the perimeter.
I think Cal is more impressed, getting these kids picked and high, than worrying about a championship. He was to a fault trying with the Harrisons

Skal Labissiere is next in line Very thin 6-11, very, very skilled offensively. Wants to play around perimeter and Cal put him in the post to do the same as KAT.
KAT Sr thanked Cal publically for all he done. It wasn't without the pouting etc to start.

KAT to me has always reminded me of Boogie in Al Horfords frame since I researched the draft. He will be a great player. Will join DMC and Davis as the top bigs in the league. Okafor will be at that Al Jefferson level. Porzingis could also be really good.

KAT is literally a cross between Cousins/Davis with a higher IQ than both he makes excellent decisions and has unreal passing out of the post. Also I think people bringing up all these rookie bigs are seriously underrating Myles Turner.

I'm a huge fan of Porzingis and that was the guy I really wanted on this team. However, I think his development would be for long term purposes, not this year. he'd probably also look like a bust on the Kings. We'd give him 15mins to show that he can do ok, without giving him more minutes to learn and go through his progressions. That's something he has on the Knicks. He's going to be a good player as long as he can stay healthy.

Willie was a wide receiver in HS football. In fact, Cal gave him an offer at a football game.
Hard to believe he lived 30 miles from U of Kansas. Bill Self let a good one slip away, a 7 footer who can run like a deer and athletic.

I hope he dedicates himself to improving. He is a different cat, many interests.

george karl has often pinned his young players to the pine. he has a reputation for not giving his rookies much time on the court. however, given cauley-stein's nba readiness on defense and the kings' deficiencies on that end of the court, i figured karl wouldn't have much choice but to play WCS big minutes. but he doesn't seem aware of the merits of willie's contributions on defense (or doesn't seem aware of the merits of defense altogether)...

Willie makes the occasional rookie mistake, but he also brings something to the defense that no other player on the team can bring. Why Karl doesn't play him more is beyond me. We certainly could have used him in the last game. Our defense in the 4th was pathetic.

There's really no excuse for it, given the weaknesses of the team and Willie's strengths.

Makes me wonder as well. The Kings are the worst in 2 points allowed, I thought our perimeter defense was bad. This is the first time I've ever started paying attention to the stats.

83% of GM's said AD would be the player they would take to start a franchise. That is not a role player. Role players don't get the Rose rule supermax contracts. 5/145 mil.

WCS knows he is a role player and an important one. How many 7 footers can guard 5 positions? Willies scoring is dunks, put backs and he will occasionally make a nice move. He can improve offensively, his bread and butter is being a disruptive force. If he could add some weight and muscle it would be interesting to see.
He and Boogie are beloved in Kentucky

This stuff about WCS guarding 5 positions is mythology. He can't guard a 1, a 2, or a 3. If he could, the defense of the Kings wouldn't be so putrid.

Willie is the best help defender on the Kings and the best at the switching defense Karl has them playing. Willie can't guard smalls full time, but on a switch he is pretty darned good. For me Karl is showing his bad side by not playing Willie more.

When Acy started the second half last night Karl conceded the game IMO.

So far this season I don't like the way Karl handles the game time decisions with the Kings. I also don't like the Small Ball. I don't like playing Rondo and Collison unless the 3,4 and 5 are full size. I don't like the pace and space game full time. I want the starters to be full size and I want teams to prove they can beat a Big team with small ball. Don't point to GSW over the Grizz in last seasons PO because Conley had a broken face.

I think with Acy on the floor at the beginning off the second half, we held the Wolves to 2-7 from the field. The problem was, that we shot 1-10 during this stretch.
So one can debate, if playing Acy actually helped our defense.

The biggest problem is he can't guard those positions all at the same time.

The Kings defense is bad because Karl's system is awful where he insists on putting players in bad matchups.
That's what I've noticed. 80% of the time the defense is scrambling to try and double/switch a bad matchup. It puts everyone out of position.

Still butthurt about being wrong?

Obviously WCS can't guard those positions on a full-time basis. If you want to find someone at this size who can do a better job on switches, be my guest. You'd be pretty wrong, but that's nothing new. Go ahead and ignore this post like you always do to anyone who asks you to back up your claims. Maybe if Karl actually played him when we need defense, we wouldn't be so putrid. I can think of at least 3 games this year where we came out of a timeout on defense, needing a stop, and WCS wasn't in the game. WTF! One of the few times he was in the game in this situation, he sealed the win with a deflection on the inbounds.

Get over it already.

WCS is a rookie.

Really, have you been watching him play. How many times has he been isolated on the perimeter against a PG or a SG and they haven't tried to take him off the dribble, or they did and missed the shot. He's not perfect right now by any means, but he as quick as most of the PG's in the league, and with his length, even if they cross him over, which I might add can happen to any player, his length in pursuit will still cause them problems. Let me put it this way. If I had to choose between WCS or Collison to guard Chris Paul for an entire game, I'd pick WCS ten times out of ten, and I guarantee you the results would be better.

I would not mind if we lost a couple more games and than we had to start thinking about next year, if it leads to WCS playing full games and certain other players getting traded.

WCS was brought to this team to be paired with Demarcus

Their styles compliment eachother on the defensive end

We just haven't seen it enough

That's pretty much how I've felt after 20 games for the last 5 years.
