FOURTH violation and he's facing a one-year suspension.

Thank God the NFL takes this stuff seriously.

not surprised.. he clearly needs some sort of rehab or needs to decide to not attempt to play in the NFL any longer. Reflects poorly on UT after having a great college career.

He doesn't need any rehab.
He smokes weed.
No big deal.
He needs to quit playing football because his priorities aren't straight.

Guess it wasn't weed for his fourth violation.

Maybe a steroid type substance?

In any case, his priorities are off.

Another great player with what looks like a career ending addiction... man that sory is so old it's a freeking cliche' Still sad to see but unfortunalty recovery is not for those who need it it's for those who are desperate enough to do anything for it.

Theoretically you've not supposed to get "addicted" to weed. I say theoretically because I have had friends that certainly seemed pretty damn close whether it was physical or not. But to let it destroy your life and ruin an amazing gift is just...weak. Weak willed. Messed up. Ricky's a strange duck, but mostly I just feel sorry for him as kind of a pathetic figure.

Cannibis in itself doesn't have any properties to sustain a long term physical addicition. But then there's the mental addiciton, which may attributed to the individual rather as much as the actual substance. It may not seem as harmful in terms of addicition, but in reality your still hooked as the mental cravings are still ever present, even if they are subliminal.

Or.... he just likes it (weed, that is).

On the ohter hand, I think he has made it fairly clear that football is just something he does because people are willing to pay him a lot of money to do it. I don't think he is such a tragic figure, just someone who doesn't have the burning desire to be the best at a game. THe fact that that there are huge sums of money involved changes the pitch of the arguments, but the basic fact that we have a rich young man who would rather hang out with his friends and smoke pot than play football. Is that terribly surprising or tragic?

He could quit now and live comfortably in Humboldt county for the rest of his days. He probably should.

Isn't that the underlying cause of addicition, actually liking something or some feeling to the point that it becomes out of control? Unless of course, it's some form of self infliciton, which can also be deemed an addiciton.

Regardless of all the clinical/psychological rationales for his actions, the bottom line is, as mcsluggo pointed out, that "...we have a rich young man who would rather hang out with his friends and smoke pot than play football...."

He's not the first; he won't be the last. Some people make the most of what they've been lucky enough to achieve in life. Williams obviously didn't set the bar for himself quite as high (pun intended) as some of us think he should have. Pretty much his choice to make...

I lost interest in anything he said or did a long time ago. I'd rather look at the guys who strive for something other than "good enough."

Completely agreed with everything you just said.

Just like real life the laws against smoking pot are out of balance. It's flipping amazing that a plant that is natural to the earth is outlawed. The whole effing system is corrupt. You can Drink booze and smoke cancer sticks legally. What a load of ****e.

Why did this thread start up again?

I thought his last substance abuse infraction had nothing to do with weed? Did I miss something? I still never heard what his last infraction was for. Anyone know?

Did you know that in Vegas you can get sent to jail for having marijuana on you? But if you had other drugs, say, Ecstacy or Cocaine, all they do is write you a ticket. That's just messed up.

Indeed. Mind boggling isn't it.

This isn't a political forum. Since this thread is evolving into a discussion of whether or not the illegality of marijuana is fair, equitable, etc. and that's political and not sports related, I'm closing the thread.
